2003
Disease ‘589’ is created in Australia during an attempt to find a cure for cancer.
Scientists working in the lab become infected with this disease and begin to slowly die.
Disease ‘589’ has symptoms not unlike a cold and spreads similarly.
Can only be contracted by people over forty, and the spread is limited to humans.
2005
A large amount of Australians become affected by ‘589’.
As the disease is incurable, much of the population of Australia begins to diminish.
The fatal illness began to spread to other countries and achieve an epidemic status.
It is discovered that if someone has been exposed to the disease, it stays dormant in the body until the person hits a certain age when the disease starts to attack the body.
2007
’589’ becomes a pandemic and strands mutate, now beginning to affect people in their early thirties.
World officials see the dangers of continuing this way and decide to evacuate and sterilise an island country.
Japan became off limits to people with ‘589’ and pregnant teenagers were taken there to have and raise their children; Operation ‘Never Destroy Us.
Parents must wear face masks and constantly sterilise in case they have previously been exposed to ‘589’
2015
Became apparent that all parents sent to Japan die soon afterwards because of the disease, and their children must be looked after by new parents sent there.
Japan becomes overcrowded and the United Kingdom and New Zealand are evacuated and sterilised.
Older people who are giving birth in non-sterilised countries must give birth in a sterile environment.
These parents have a choice of never seeing or holding their child and sending them to safety, or keeping them and therefore dooming them to ‘589’.
2027
World population severely dwindling and many people refuse to let their children leave, therefore assuring that they have no chance for a long life.
Children that were first moved off to these ‘safe points’ thrive, despite the parents having died, and the operation to let parents move there too is stopped.
Only babies are now sent to these countries, and the current residents must take care of them. Anything else is too risky.
2042
NEW ZEALAND
The new countries are prosperous while the other disease filled countries are falling apart under the crippling infection. There are more plans set in motion to sterilise Australia. The children who were born under the ‘Never Destroy Us’ operation are all ruling their countries, however, like everywhere else in the world ever, they have their problems. The worst country for this is New Zealand. The country is divided into three types of people, the UNDERCLASS, the ELITE and the MEDIATORS. Currently the Elite are in power, and try to dictate the country. They are being kept in line by the Mediators who can not see why everyone just can not get on. The Underclass completely oppose the Elite and hate everything they stand for. They despise them and want to become in control of the country. A state of cold war is set over the country and it is questionable what will become of the ‘saved youth’.
They may be free of the disease, but can they be saved from their own prejudice?
