Katsuki shielded her deep, black eyes with her hand when a bright stream of light hit her straight in the face. She was stunned by the contrast between the twilight inside the school and the sunny outside. She smiled though, peased by the weather, and strolled around, her feet making hardly any sound in the moist grass.
She finally found a quiet spot under a group of willows that sheltered her from the sun with their subtle shadows. This reminded her of the quiet places where she used to train martial arts with her sensei back in Japan, ages ago.
Katsuki set down the object she had been carrying, opened the zip of the case and took out its content. It was a violin. Small, beautiful, shiny. The girl smiled, tightened the bow and began to tune the instrument's four strings with an absent-minded air. A...E...D...G...

Dexter had decided to work on his sword skills, some thing he had not wanted to do in the school where people may see him. He loved training and had not done some for a while, all his school work had tied him down, but know he was free. He took this opportunity to wonder out onto the Moorish countryside of Scotland.
He began to realize why his parents had liked Scotland so much and was glad he had returned to his place of birth.
He stopped his walking as he found a nice spot to practice. the moss and heather was slightly shouter, plus there was a bit of shade from a rather loan tree.
He put down the black sheath which he had been carrying on his shoulder, and sat on the grass as he focused his mined and soul. His Ki.
Once he felt he was prepared he stud up and removed one set of arms from the black sheath. The arms consisted of Jo=staff, a Bokken=wooden sword and a Tano=wooden dagger. He owned three sets of arms in total, one set he had made himself, another set from his father, and a third set from the monks that had raised him since he was he was orphaned, as a parting gift. He only had two sets with him, his and the monks, he did not know why he carried two sets but he did. He had left his fathers arms in Japan.
Dexter decided to use his set of arms, he started with the Bokken, it was made of white oak and had his name engraved into the blade. He found his stance and began his training swinging the sword as he was thought, it all came so naturally to him. Then again he had been doing martial arts his whole life.

Katsuki stopped dead in the middle of a bow stroke. She had heard something, but her intuition warned her about something else. She just sood there, in silence. What could that strange feeling be...?
<<Ki in movement? I must be dreaming...>>, she thought with a groan. Obviously the lack of training in the las few weeks was having some weird consequences. But the feeling wouldn't go away, so she quickly put the violin back in its case and set off to investigate. Walking quietly as a shadow and gracefully as an elf, she soon found something, not very far away.
A boy had just gotten up from the grass and was now handling...<<A Bokken!??>>, thought Katsuki incredulously, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of admiration, excitement and nostalgia.
Finally she dared to step into the clearing where the boy was.
''Hi...I...My name's Katsuki. Morimoto Katsuki.''
She bowed in a Japanese style, but was too shy and shocked to say or do anything else.

Dexter stopped his training and lowered his sword as a young girl stepped out into the clear. He was surprised to see anyone, and rather taken aback when the girl introduced her self as Morimoto Katsuk, she was Japanese and bowed to him in the traditional Japanese greeting.
Dexter automatically did the same. Then introduced himself, "I'm Dexter, Fox Dexter." He changed the sword to his left hand, and held it by his side as he approached to shack hands.
"I wasn't expecting any spectators." He said with a tinge of humor in his voice. Dexter had defiantly not expected to see any Japanese people in Scotland, yet here there was one out on the moor with him.
judging by the way she had approached so undetected by him he reasoned that she too must know some martial arts. His knowledge seeking mined wanting to know more about her already.
"Do you do martial arts?" he asked tentatively with a slight longing in his voice.

''Well I...I do.'' Katsuki said, her tone changing gradually from shy to amazed. It did not usually occur to people that a 'cute little girl' like her could do martial arts because she looked to weak, too light...That's why she felt very grateful towards Dexter and couldn't help but smile. It took a few seconds till she spoke again; she wasn't really used to anyone taking interest in her but obviously Dexter had found the key subject that could easily drive Katsuki into a conversation with a stranger.
''I can't remember when I started my training, back in Japan, but I must have been very little because I do remember my sensei had to kneel down so that I could aim kicks above his knees...'' She paused. ''Now I train with my father. Ha runs a dojo...Martial arts are sort of a tradition in my family bacause of mu ancestors...'' Katsuki hesitated. ''They were ninjas. That's why I was trained in ninjutsu among other martial arts.'' She stopped suddenly, as if she had said something forbidden or dangerous and decided to change the subject before the boy would start laughing at her. No one ever believed the ninja thing, and that's why Katsuki didn't usually mention it.
''So...where did you learn martial arts?'' she asked.
Matt - June 13, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Dexter raised an eye brow in admiration, he believed Katsuki, why would she lie. Besides he also knew ninjutsu along with all other martial arts. It would certainly explain how she crept up on him. She had trained when she was young just as he had. His parents were less amazing though.
"I learned in Japan, I lived there practically all my life, until I came here about a month ago.Oh, and like a month when I was born here." His mined flickered to some of the happy moments of his childhood. "Iv been doing martial arts all my life, my dad was Japanese so I guess he got me doing martial arts, he thought me lots." he didn't mined sharing his past, despite its sensitiveness. "Do you know Kendo? He asked referring to the art of weapons. Dexter felt like practicing with some one rather than doing Iaido(Where you basically imagine the opponent.) "I have a spare Bokken" he said persuasively.
Dexter was becoming ever more interested in knowing what Katsuki could do. He almost envied the fact that her parents were ninjas. Yet he did not much feel like explaining his whole monk experiences it was not his favorite subject. He did not think she wouldn't believe him, because he was shore she would, it simply reminded him of less happy times.

Katsuki listened carefully, and was surprised by the fact that Dexter had lived even more years in Japan than her. <<He must be really good...>>, she thought, and shook her head slightly when she suddenly found herself analysing him as if he was an opponent. <<Damn ninja instinct...>>
Dexter then said he had a spare Bokken. Katsuki hesitated for a moment. The boy was about two heads taller than her, and for what he had said, he must be very strong. <<If you fight him you're crazy.>>, Katsuki told herself. But when she looked at the Bokken again, she realized she couldn't resist.
' I do.' she said, nodding slowly.

Dexter smiled with pleasure when he heard she knew Kendo. He was impressed and glad to have a possible opponent. "Will you join me?" he asked presenting her with his Bokken.
Dexter really hoped she would accept his offer to fight, he was interested in knowing how much skill she had. He imagined her to be good, she had said that her father owned a Dojo.
sakura - June 23, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
Katsuki's eyes widened and sparkled with the flame of the fighting spirit inside her as Dexter handed her the Bokken. She took the weapon carefully, as if it was suddenly going to vanish into thin air, her hands nearly trembling with excitement. She looked at Dexter wit a dazziling smile, then backed away a few steps.
She tried the weight of the Bokken. It was a bit too heavy for her, but it would do. <<'Cmon Katsuki...>>, she told herself, <<You've been fighting boys stronger than you all your life...Calm down and concentrate. You can do it.>>
She took a deep breath and started to focus on her ki. Not knowing her opponent wold mean a much more interesting fight.
As she put herself on guard, her expression changed all of a sudden, as if she had turned into a sort of 'battle-mode' Katsuki. Her eyes showed no emotion, just a cold warning: don't underestimate me.
She did her dazzling smile again, with her eyes too, for a fraction of a second, just to show Dexter she hadn't really turned into an assasin-Katsuki. She hoped that had felt reassuring, but didn't say anything. She went back to 'battle-mode' and waited for the first blow, wondering...
Matt - June 24, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
Dexter was pleased as Katsuki took the Bokken from him, he noticed a twinkle in her eye as she did. He was shore she was talented he could tell in the way she was weighing the Bokken, it was professional. There was also a the battle stare, a cold emotionless concentration.
Dexter steeped over to his black sheath and took out the other Bokken which the monks had given to him. He ran his hand along the smooth wooden blade, then grasped it tight with both hands on the handle. he released pressure as he became relaxed and concentrated.
With a swift move he placed the sword at his side and bowed, so as to commence the fight.
Dexter drew his Bokken from his side and held it out stretched to see who would make the first move.
Seeing that his opponent was ready he took initiative and entered with a Yokomen (over head strike to someones side, it cuts down diagonally.) aimed at Katsuki's right shoulder. ...
sakura - July 5, 2008 11:24 AM (GMT)
(ooc: In case you were wondering, I don't have the slightest idea about kendo, Matt...-although Katsuki does- So I'm really sorry if I write absurd things...)
Katsuki's eyes narrowed as she saw the Yokomen coming, her brain working at top speed in a sort of calmed alert. But she didn't move. She waited till the very last second, when Dexter's Bokken was nearly brushing her shoulder, then stepped swiftly back, her movements always elegant, flowing and catlike.
Dexter's stroke was supposed to cut down diagonally, and it did, where Katsuki's shoulder had been only a moment ago...but instead of blocking his bokken, Katsuki had moved apart and she stroke back aiming for his forearm when Dexter exposed it after his blow.
Katsuki had a very particular style of fighting. She didn't exactly kept to the rules, but nor did she break them. She just avoided doing what she was expected to do, which often disconcerted her opponents, but at the same time, she took care not to do something really out of the rules.
Matt - July 6, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
(Ooc: its ok, I'm no expert my self.)
Dexter's blow rushed through the air as it passed in front of Katsuki, who had stepped back avoiding it. She had waited until the last minute to move and then made a move her self. Katsuki was placing a shot at his outstretched arms. From this simple move he could learn much about her skills, she was fast, agile and ready to make her own moves. It was clear she was no stranger to the art of sword fighting.
Dexter did not wait until seconds of the shot, the side stepped moving his center of gravity to line it with Katsuki's with lightning speed and meeting her strike early. This way the wood would connect and he would be able to slide in close and use his superior mass to push her back opening her guard for another attack.
Dexter moved without thought ti came to him naturally as though he had practiced the move before, it was as if it were his instinct.
sakura - July 11, 2008 09:40 AM (GMT)
(Ooc: Hehe, well you write like one.)
Katsuki's Bokken moved cutting trought the air with the sound she liked so much, but it never stroke its target. Quick as a thought, Dexter had stepped to one side, and his Bokken was ready to block her blow. Katsuki saw his intentions, or she felt them. She knew she had to avoid their weapons to clash too hard: Dexter was superior to her in both mass and strength. But her Bokken was already too close. Her heart pounded fast, as if she could already feel the strenght of Dexter's blow pushing her back sharply. She watched him closely as he stepped to the side and moved his Bokken to meet hers...
Katsuki did something unexpected, even to her. She reduced the speed of her blow, and then did a quick turn with the wrist. The two Bokken brushed only lightly, and she managed to step aside.
<<My, that was close...>>, she thought. She was impressed by how Dexter fought so naturally, as if guided only by his instinct. He really seemed to be in his element, just like her.
Making use of the speed of her previous move, Katsuki traced a curve in the air, and aimed for Dexter's rigth side, just as he had done at the beginning. She knew it was risky, but for her that was part of the fun.
Matt - July 13, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
Dexter's move came to nothing and the tables had turned as he was know under attack. He wasn't shore why it hadn't worked, it had seemed like Katsuki had managed to slow her attack down and with a twist of her wrist avoided the clash that would have thrown her back. Instead their Bokkens only greased one another.
It was a move that allowed Dexter to gather new information about his opponent, she was good really good and that fact made him realize that a foals move from him would not go unnoticed.
Now facing a Yokomen from Katsuki he contemplated, it was a very basic move one he had used to fined out how good she was, now it was being used against him was she trying to fined out as much about him as he was about her. The move was a dangerous one for Katsuki, Dexter knew infinite ways to deal with it. He did not have to worry about what to do though it would happen naturally his instinct finding the best way to deal with it.
Dexter waited for the attack to reach him then before it touched him moved to his side turning his body with lightning speed, using his Bokken as a shield. This way should Katsuki be able change her move he would be protected by his sword that was in line with his center of gravity.
He was too close to Katsuki to attack with his sword, however he saw her shoulder coming closer to him as she followed the momentum of the attack. If there was no alterations from the the slice he had avoided, he would end up facing Katsuki side and be able to push her shoulder and gain some space to enter with an attack of his own.
sakura - July 23, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
<<What on earth are you doing?>>, Katsuki thought to herself. She knew that anyone who had Dexter's level would know hundreds of ways to deal with the Yokomen she was now performing, and sure enough, she saw Dexter preparing to open some space. <<Don't play with him you fool, he matches you fully!>>. Katsuki remembered suddenly all the sermons her sensei had given her about why she shouldn't do risky moves while fighting, no matter the level of the opponent. That had been her weak point for a long time.
After that she seemed to focus a bit more, and her gaze took in every detail, more clearly, in a wider area.
Her shoulder was moving too close to Dexter, unprotected. She realized this, but not in time enough. However, she was able to react, in a way. When Dexter leaned forward to push her shoulder she was already leaping back. Katsuki was good in changing her moves in the last second.
She had left open space for him to attack anyway, but at least she hadn't taken a push which, she was sure, would have meant a step too close to victory for Dexter.
Matt - July 30, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
Dexter's attack met only air as Katsuki was once again able to doge his move at the last moment. however he had opend the space he wanted and could know enter at his lesure.
However he realised that Katsuki was playing games she was relaxed and having fun comperd to some of a more serrious aproch from himself. This made him consider toning himself down so the fight became more casual.
He thought better of it it was too dangerous and with the space he had he could even posibly bring the battel to an end.
Dexter moved in with a straight strong thrust, aiming straight for the chest with the end of his sword. his streched his arms giving him more range and ceeping him back out of reach of Katsuki. He executed he move with grate speed he was wel balansed and was lower to the groung with a large step. He wonderd if Katsuki would be able to jump back again, it would be difficult be he had scensed a slight change in her energy.
