| It was nearly morning, when Kalea woke to the sound of an annoying, screeching bird. She rolled over piling the heavy covers over her head. The bird persisted, and soon Kalea found herself at her window screaming with a tired, scratchy voice. Suddenly a large gust of wind blew through the trees by the room, blowing the bird into a speedy flight. She shut the window and turned back to her messy room. Picking up a stray tee and some sweats, she dressed herself. Her short brown hair was all disheveled and she ran her fingers through it to straighten the ends. She soon became fed up with it and put a black headband in. Reasonable enough…. Slipping on some sandals she made her way out to where the mail was kept. It was quite chilly and she moved quickly through the people that were up this early. Looking up for her name she reached inside her box and pulled out two envelopes. The first was a large orange packet. She undid the bracket and pulled out a long hand written letter. It was her fathers hand-writing and she crumpled it up immediately. She dug her hand in farther and pulled out another paper. It was a picture of her little Brother, Kimo, with his girlfriend at his first homecoming. She smiled looking at the short, pale, blonde girl standing next to her tall, tan, dark haired brother. Soon she found herself back at her door, and walked in. She went over to her wall of photos that were given, it was nearly full, with a painted mural around it. She pinned up the picture and then moved to her bed kicking off her shoes. She dug in the packet again and pulled out a check that her parents sent her every month. 100 more dollar for her to shop with. She stuck the money in the side of her bed and threw the empty packet on the ground. The next letter was in a brown small envelope. She opened it and pulled out a note from Akoni. ’My dearest Kalea, I was just hired for a new job. We are going after a jewel of some sort, I can’t really give you all of the details. I spoke to dad, and he said that he wished you would write back once in awhile. Anyways, I want you to come over and see the house. I did some remodeling and I think that you could paint something for me in one of the rooms. I was thinking abstract. Oh, and I have big news. I met a wonderful woman named Maggie. I want you to meet her, she is a business woman, but she has a personality that I think you would like. Well, I just wanted to keep you updated. I will see you when I see you. Akoni’ Kalea looked at the letter one last time and then placed it on her nightstand. She laid back and sighed. Maybe he was right, maybe I should talk to dad…what would it hurt…only my pride. she thought to herself and rolled on to her side. She then sat up and walked over to the middle of her room. She got in a second position, and began to move in a elegant manor around the room. She hummed slightly with a tune that was stuck in her head. She swayed her arms back and forth at her sides. Lifting her leg up she circled around with her arm following, but lost her balance. She landed on the floor. She laid there for a moment with a annoyed look rushing over her face. Kalea laid in the position for several minutes, just thinking about everything that was happening. Suddenly her alarm went off for her class. She had ten minutes to get to her class. She jumped up and ran to her closet trying to find something to wear. She threw on some clothes, grabbed her satchel and ran out the door. |
