posters all over the united states clearly print the following words: 'FACE THE STRANGE TOUR '08!'
maybe that doesn't mean a thing to you. maybe you're a diehard rap fan, and some rock/pop punk tour
strikes no sudden desire to get smashed in a mosh pit, or hear bands singing about things other than
"making it rain" or how "shawty's a ten". or maybe it wouldn't mean a thing to you because you don't
turn your head unless an artist mentions tim mcgraw at least once, or can enjoy one of his songs,
for that matter. if you are one of those people, i highly doubt that you'd ever care about 'face
the strange', and i highly doubt the bands playing would even want you there. yeah, harsh
reality check.
but, maybe, you're one of those people who the flyer was intended for, who snatched up the flyer
off of it's position stapled onto a maple tree by your house. and before you can catch your
thoughts, you're screaming because you just can't believe that you just read that your favorite
band was coming to your home town. yeah, you're the type of person who those bands want at
their concert. you're the one kid who can listen to a track, and honestly relate, the kid
who lives through music. so, even though you were probably one your way to school, you turn
around and bolt home, shoving the poster in your parents' faces, begging, no, demanding
to go to this once in a life time concert.
but, just imagine the life of a member of one of the seven band names printed on that
flyer. just imagine what it would be like to be apart of the headling band: 'justice and mercy',
or maybe the other six bands, 'scream, aim, fire', 'unhappy ending', 'empire', 'the
heartbreakers', 'stockholm syndrome', or 'fer sure'. imagine having to be harrassed by fans
just like you every single second of every single day. but, then again, it's probably worth it.
i mean, why wouldn't it be? if these bands had worked so hard just to get to the status that
they are, to the point where they can write whatever they want, why wouldn't they be happy?
they finally had the one million people listening instead of just the one. surely that had
to be the best feeling in the world. and you know what, it was.
not only were their jobs to hang out with their best friends all day and all night, as well as
just play music for a living and make a difference in people's lives, they had finally
achieved their dreams. which brings us back to 'face the strange'. these seven bands have
joined together in somewhat of a small-scale 'warped tour' experience. they're going to
tour the entire united states, not missing one of the fifty. yeah, even alaska. so, it's
seven bands against the entire country. there's going to be heartbreak, hook-
ups, broken friendships, new lifelong bonds, and a whole lot of great music. so...
what are you waiting for? we're going to face the strange.
