Cinderella’s on her bedroom floor she’s got a
Crush on the guy at the liquor store
Cause Mr. Charming don’t come home anymore and she forgets why she came here

Sleeping Beauty’s in a foul mood for shame she says
None for you dear prince, I’m tired today
I’d rather sleep my whole life away than have you keep me from dreaming

Can you remember the days of your childhood? The days spent worrying about the little things, like who was ‘it’ and whether or not you’d have just enough mud to make the world’s largest mud pie? Things were so simple and carefree then. Every night you fell asleep in your comfy little bed while your parents read you an amazing tale. Tales of courageous adventures, handsome princes, beautiful princesses, wicked witches and evil beasts, that sent your imagination soaring to different heights all before drifting off into a dream filled slumber.

I don’t care for your fairytale
You’re so worried 'bout the maiden,
though you know she’s only waiting on the next best thing

As children, Fairy tales were a source of stability for our naïve and innocent minds. As we lay in bed, clutching our blankets, we all knew how the story ended but we wanted more. More tales of magic. More good over coming evil, more love conquering all, and most of all more Happily Ever Afters. There was no doubt in our little heads that someday we too would find our Prince Charming or beautiful princess and have our own happy ending, but as we grew things began to change.

Snow White is doing dishes again cause what else can you do
With seven itty bitty men?
Sends them to bed and she calls up a friend, says will you meet me at midnight

The tall blonde lets out a cry of despair says
Would have cut it myself if I knew men could climb hair
I’ll have to find another tower somewhere and keep away from the windows

It didn’t take long for us to realize the world was not filled with magic and fairies. The world that we live in is cruel and unfair, a world that continually lets us down. In Willowbrook, Maine it's no different.

I don’t care for your fairytale
You’re so worried 'bout the maiden,
though you know she’s only waiting on the next best thing

Though it’s not the biggest of places, it doesn’t change the fact that corruption lurks around every corner. Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride, the list is endless and the teens of Willowbrook High deal with it everyday. Some of their lives are controlled by drugs, some are sex addicts, others are writ with pain, anguish, and violence. Dreams of fairy tale endings have long disappeared for some, but little do they know that their lives are more like the enchanted stories than they think.

Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom, man made up a story
Said that I should believe him
Go and tell your white knight that he’s handsome in hindsight
but I don’t want the next best thing
So I sing and hold my head down and I break these walls 'round me
Can’t take no more of your fairytale love

The only main difference between their lives and the fantasies they once loved is ‘choice’. Good does not always triumph over evil, but there are ways to overcome your troubles and make the best of them. In short, Life is what you make it. Will you get your ‘Happily Ever After’?

I don’t care for your fairytale
You’re so worried bout the maiden,
though you know she’s used to waiting spent her whole life being graded on the
sanctity of patience and a dumb appreciation
The story needs some mending and a better happy ending ‘cause I don’t want the next best thing no no I don’t want the next best thing.

Or will you be stuck Waiting on the Next Best Thing??
