A Smile in a Whisper
Pearland School for the ArtsIt's been 30 years since Pearland School for the Arts opened its doors to the talent teenagers living in the surrounding states. Over the years students from farther and farther away have been calling Pearland home for four years. Parents dish out $100,000 a year for their child to get the best in education and to further their talent. Some teens who show promise, but can’t attend the school due to their families finances, get scholarships. Students are accepted into one of six categories--Band, Choir, Theatre, Dance, Photography, or Culinary arts, and their schooling is based around this.
Opposite of Pearland School for the Arts, was Pearland High. A public school for the kids who don’t make the cut. Either their family doesn’t have the cash, or they don’t have the talent. Instead of taking the specially selected classes, these students had to suffer through crowded rooms, inadequate teachers, and of course, the violence that roamed the halls. It wasn’t pretty to go to Pearland High, and now it is damn near impossible.
Over the summer months a few seniors had a little too much to drink, and found themselves with a can of gas and a pack of cigarettes. You know what you get when you add drunk seniors, a shitty school, gas, and a match? Nothing good. Once they realized that they had lit the school on fire they split, leaving the Pearland Fire Department to stop their mess. Only they couldn’t save the school, and trust me, it was for the best.
Both sets of students had to swallow their pride (and hate for the other) when both school boards decided to combine schools until a new high school could be built. The students from Pearland High were split up, Seniors sent to Pearland School for the Arts, and the rest of the underclassmen were divided up between the other local high schools.
Half the year has gone by, and the class of 2007 have already proved that they have more than enough drama to get along. There has been fights, sex, pregnancy, kidnappings, drugs, bottles of vodka chucked, and other obscene acts. And it's only half way through the year. The beginning of 2007 will only bring more drama, more broken friendships, more broken hearts, which only means, more drama.
Can they handle it?
Or will some crack under pressure?
These are the lives of the teens of Pearland, their drama, their destruction. Who didn’t expect these things to happen when you put two different groups of people into one campus? Some had made it work, and some would rather not even try.
Welcome to Pearland School for the Arts, take a seat, and buckle up. Nothing can prepare you for the drama that awaits.
