For two centuries after the last Great War, when Harry Potter defeated the Dark Lord Voldemort, the Wizarding World was at peace. Few large threats against its security existed, and all were quashed by a surprisingly organized and noble government. It wasn’t until a new Minister of Magic was named, in the summer of 2212, that things began to sour. Soon after her inauguration, laws were soon passed that constrained werewolves, half-breeds, metamorphmagi and seers, and eventually placed the lot of them in Azkaban. There was one problem, where would they go? The answer, the newly created Adrastos Durham Institute for Potentially Harmful Anomalies.
Tension at the institute has always been high. Fights, especially between the werewolves, are common, and the authoritarian Headmaster does nothing to make the situation better. Despite the many rules, from the ten o’clock bed time, to the lengthy list of places they aren’t to go, the staff’s control over the students was mediocre at best. Then came Durham’s new idea: the snitches. Not the golden kind, but rather, a group of students hand-picked to inform him of the goings-on around the institute. Secretively, of course, with the added bonus of access to the secret chamber, plus a place on the Headmaster’s good side.
It has been two years since the introduction of Durham’s little group of eyes and ears around the school, and some are beginning to get suspicious, wondering why certain students are being constantly pulled into his office, and why these same youths disappear every Tuesday night. Vicious rumors are circulating, most claiming the Headmaster is having affairs with students. Others have come closer to the truth, but were told that they were mistakenly detained, and let free. At least, according to staff members, who were believed, since these people were never seen at the institute again. No one has found out the truth, though, not yet.
