It's true--Scout needs her little brother, Brian Bastien (yeah, I know, eliteration--if you really, really want to, you can change his name, I guess, but just let me know first so I can change things around, m'kay?).

Scout's parents aren't dead; they're hospitalized: vegetables. No response, no waking up, no talking. Nothing. Just lying in their beds... he would have been six when they died, I think, so he remembers them, but not much. (Max wouldn't really remember them at all, as she was only two). They were raised by their grandparents, but as old Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bastien are so very old and going senile, Scout has pretty much taken care of everyone since she was about thirteen or so, and Brian was nine.
