((It sucks...I know and I took forever but I have a writter's blockade in the ea of writing stuff!))
“I dunno Phoebe… it looked more like you were kicking a ball, not a herkie.”
“Alright, alright, I got it don’t worry. I’ll practice those herkies. Gosh, I’m a bit rusty okay? You know I have to leave early today!”
Phoebe was walking backward toward the gymnasium doors. No one on the cheerleading team had been especially happy with Phoebe’s performance on this day and they ha their reasons why. Phoebe was usually a very good cheerleader and was able to execute the cheer moves quite well. On this day, she had been distracted though and her performance suffered because of it. While she laughed it off as just her rustiness after long hours put into soccer practice, the other girls were kind of worried. Earlier that year Phoebe had done something stupid and sprained her ankle, they didn’t want a repeat so close to the big cheer-off. Luckily for Phoebe and the team, this would be a one day only distraction, for there was only one day like this every two months. Cheerleading practice was over for her and she had business to attend to. It was that time of the month that she had been quite anxious to come and an event that she could not be late for.
As she walked pass the athlete’s benches, Phoebe scooped up her backpack, sweater, and sports bag from under them. She waved to her teammates one last time before heading for the door. A crowd of football players stood before the open doors, talking and joking as they waited for their coach’s return. Phoebe greeted them and smiled as she whizzed by and they greeted her back, with her barely acknowledging it. They too knew that this day was sort of important to Phoebe and because of it they did not try to start or conversation or even play with her. After her hasty depart from the gymnasium, Phoebe found herself in the hallways which were swarming with activity. In the back of her mind she wondered what was going on but her primary focus was on her anxiousness. Phoebe turned a corner n joined the flow of traffic down a very wide corridor which led right to the student mailboxes.
Ever since Evander’s first year at Aura Academy, boxes from Greece had been sent to the Stavros children at aura on a regular basis. While Phoebe did not exactly know how much her siblings enjoyed it, she knew that the Stavros meeting to open the box every two months was something that she looked forward to. Within the box would always be pieces of their home, foods, items, memories. It was a package that Silas and Anna put careful effort into making. Even though Phoebe could be home, with her family almost at any time she wanted, she didn’t consider her omniprecence as real as the actual items found in the box. This is why Phoebe as so anxious to get to the mailroom because there, the box was waiting for her.
Just as quickly as she had left the Library, Phoebe was passing a row of mailboxes, not far from the main corridor. She walked right past her own mailbox for she already knew that it wouldn’t be there. Instead, Phoebe headed to a marble counter at the end of the mail deposits. A young man with black hair and brown skin was sitting behind the counter, feet propped up on an end table. At first he didn’t see Phoebe but he was soon brought to attention as Phoebe cleared her throat. “Hey Trevor!” she exclaimed. Trevor was a Junior like her, and worked part time in the mail room. His choice of a job was no surprise to her since he had x-ray vision.
“Hey Phoebe! You came just in time, my shift just ended. I happened to notice your box, I think you’ll like what you got this time.”
“Uggh! I though you said no more peeking!” Phoebe exclaimed with a smile as the boy pulled her box from on the ground and placed it upon the marble countertop.
“No,” the boy began with a smile, “I said that I merely won’t ruin the surprise! So you jut cam from cheer practice?”
Phoebe laughed at him, he as always able to find a loophole with promises and other words. She kept telling him that he should be a lawyer but he never seemed to show much interest. She waited for the boy to leave the mail room before responding. “Yeah, but I was kind of off today…”
Phoebe picked up the box from the counter and struggled a bit with its weight as she tried to center it. She then began to walk toward the main corridor with Trevor at her side. Trevor flirted with her it was completely obvious and so it didn’t exactly surprise her when he took her pom-poms from her sports bags and began teasing her. He did a few jumps and pretended to do a herkie before running off in the direction of the stairwell. She couldn’t chase him like usual, although she knew that’s what he wanted. “I know where you live!” she called after him. “Sleep with one eye open!” By that time, he had already raced up the stairs, knowing that he’d see her later. As Phoebe walked toward the Library, their designated meeting place, she began to wonder why she chose the place so far from the mailroom. Sure, the Library would be one of the few private places at this time but couldn’t they have thought of a better place? Guess not.
The walk was a bit longer than the walk from gym to mail room and during the walk, Phoebe wondered how today’s gathering would end. The Stavros children had their ups and downs like any normal siblings did and even at their gatherings this was true. During some meetings, they’d get along remarkably well and one couldn’t tell that they ever quarreled. All of them were able to enjoy each other during these times and the three got along nicely cliques aside. However, other times were like World War three between the siblings, worse than even their worst days. This is why Phoebe was actually quite nervous today. She wanted to get along with her siblings but thus far, she wasn’t able to determine if either sibling was mad at her today. Both Amelia and Evandder had reasons to be mad at Phoebe on that day but the day had a good start to it. Phoebe reached the Library and managed to open the doors with her foot before stepping in to see her siblings. Well, she didn’t really see her siblings until she set the box down.
“Hey,” she huffed, tired from her trek there.
