Kai Grant - December 8, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
"Getting to know the students sure is taking alot longer then expected..." He sighed heavily at his frustration. He seriously did think it would be easier to get to know some more people by now.

It was a typical Winter's day, signs of frost all over the sportsfield and the temperatures hitting low on the Celsius scoreboard. Then again, a day like this didn't really stop him from his weekly exercise. Today, his attire consisted of a pair of trainers, a darkblue and black jumpsuit that fitted snugly around his body. The material it was made of made sure that it'd insulate his body warmth and not let any moist get in from outside...although he was hoping for a bit of sweat today.

He exhaled the cool, crisp, clean air whilst stretching his torso sideways, swaying from left to right. He repeated the motion several times but his mind wandered. "Maybe I started a bit too enthousiastic at this school...then again, I may have already left my mark as the foreign kid around here. Guess that's why I already feel like I fit in here..." he said, ever-present smile widening even more, the same way he kept spreading his legs more and more until he reached the ground with his crotch. He was a bit limber, he blamed the government for that. After all, it was a law to do a martial art back home.

A few minutes passed...

"Finally done with warm-ups." he exhaled with a deep breath, as if saying without words that he was ready. He took a random place on the field. It wouldn't matter where he stood since he would be all over the place in a few minutes. Kai shook his head, ebon-red hair tied back into a tail. He closed his eyes and got into a starting position, left leg spread back behind him and right leg bent below him to eject forward. He concentrated for a brief moment until...

His eyes opened, colour changing to an arctic blue as his ears wiggled a little bit. The world in front of him changed, a world with less colours but sharper eyesight, the winds now becoming silent to his sensitive ears as he heard all the sounds around him alot clearer. His heartbeat slowed down and he sniffed the cool air, refreshing him one last time before he broke out into a sprint.

Within a few seconds he reached the end of the field but he didn't stop there, he made a sharp u-turn, digging his hands in the grass below him to keep him from reducing his speed by much. Grass flew into the air as he had completed the turn, legs regaining their straight composure and increasing his speed again although it was soon clear to him he could move on to the next stage. He bent over whilst running, legs bending along as he started sprinting on all fours now, his means now turning into that of a canine. It would most likely be a weird sight to any bystanders but he could only smile at the thought of showing off his ability...At least he admitted he liked to show it off whilst training.

Piper Fuller - December 10, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
It was cold outside. A girl like Piper Fuller was not used to being cold. She had lived in New York City, for goodness sakes! Every five feet there was some store to duck into to stave off the cold. And all of her running? It had taken place inside of a gym or at the very least an indoor field. Yet here, at Aura, she felt as if she needed to run outside. It wasn't that cold, just a bit chilly. Nevertheless, Pip couldn't bring herself to warm up outside. So she had warmed up inside her room. Pardon her for being extremly affected by the cold. Sure, if she were bundled up it would be one thing. And by bundled, she meant a long sleeved shirt, a pair of jeans, and a pair of nice cozy boots with perhaps a sweater or hoodie. But for practice, she couldn't wear any of that. No... Pip's practice clothes were very set. A pair of leggings or shorts, depending on the season, a pair of sneakers, and a tank top. It was that last garment which caused her to rethink training on that fine morning. But she hadn't been out in a while and she really did need to get away from it all.

What all? Well there was... Or... Nope. There wasn't much that Pip needed to get away from. There wasn't much that Piper took part in. She was a solitary being, not by nature but by experience. Sure, friendships were nice and she had some. But most of them weren't close. She kept people a hairsbreadth away from her at all times. It was a flaw in her personality, but really, if you had gone through what had happened to her, you would also.

Trying not to think of how her parents had betrayed her, Pip, wearing her usual running outfit but with an additional light pink North Face sweater to keep warm, walked outside through one of the many entrances of the school and headed towards the track. To her dismay, someone was already there. She didn't recognize him, but that didn't really matter to her. He was sprinting and he wouldn't get in her way. Or rather, she wouldn't get in his way. Not if she were careful at least. She was a distance runner and so she could adjust her path if she needed to. But she couldn't just start running, could she? Not when he had been there first...

The blond sighed and walked closer to the track and waited until he had finished doing... Whatever he was doing. She couldn't help but smile slightly as he mimicked a dog and she promptly recognized his power; animal mimicry. Pip knew it was wrong to laugh, but one had to admit that a person running on all fours, even if they were running as fast as a dog, did look pretty silly.

((Hope you don't mind me joining in but it was open...))

Kai Grant - December 11, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
Kaien, still not getting enough from his sprinting high, decided to change his pattern. Instead of running, he started leaping forward whilst maintaining a zig zag pattern. Nobody could see him so he could just let loose and just continue the workout...Boy, was he ever wrong. In all his excitement, he had forgotten all about the scents and sounds around him, only hearing the wind whizzing past his ear, the wind stopping when he landed but quickly coming back as he jumped up again.

His interest in animals was naturally born along with the manifestation of his powers and he just feels like he can relate to animals alot better then people. The thing was, he could also relate really well to humans. Thinking about this fact, it always made him sound contradictory...Guess he had split opinions on everything, but he was proud of that, it meant he could relate to both sides of a story."Blah blah blah...too much thinking right now..." but that mindset would be swept away when he heard someone laughing.

Landing on the wrong 'paw', he slipped and tumbled sideways, rolling 2 times over his axis before halting on his back. He winced slightly but laughed almost immediatley after. [COLOR=green]"Hah...It was gonna happen sooner or later...Come to think of it, I always stop this way." he said, chuckling at the first part and commenting thoughtfully on the last part.

He arched his back upwards a little, tilting his head a little hit back as well now that he had the room. Even though it was upside down, he still recognised the form of the young woman at the side of the track. "Mommy-Piper, I hurt myself, I need some comforting here." He said with his smile becoming ever-present on his face again. In all honesty however, the fact that he saw her and picked up her scent already made him forget about his fall.

((OOC:Much appreciated actually))

Piper Fuller - December 12, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
Pip wasn't sure whether to burst out laughing or shake her head at the Asian's reckless ways. In the end, she decided to just smile and roll her blue orbs at the same moment. He was going to hurt himself that way sometime soon and then the guy's track team would be down a member. And Piper was actually an avid fan of track. That and volleyball were the only two sports with which she was involved and she'd be damned before she stopped rooting for them to win every meet. And if she did say so herself, they won plenty of them.

Upon hearing her friend's words, the blond's lips tightened against one another. Sure, she was a motherly type of person. But the nickname was a bit annoying at time. Piper rolled her eyes yet again and walked in the direction of Kai's upside down form. Upon reaching him she knelt down beside him and looked down at him, pretending to examine him. "Hmm... Seem fine to me. Oh wait... No! Those three fingers were missing before your fall," she teased. She rocked back and forth gently on the heels of her shoes and settled herself down upon the ground besides Kai, wondering how in the world he had brought himself outside to run. She had thought she was the only one crazy enough to do that.

"And as for comforting," Piper Fuller started. "Well, it'll take more than a smile to get some comfort from me so nothing doing." She stood up abruptly and said, "come on! I'll race you!" She knew it was no race whatsoever, he being able to run as fast as pretty much any animal. But she needed to run, at least just a little bit. After all, she had come outside to run, not chit chat with a certain Kai Grant.

As she raced around the track, the girl realized that she was still wearing her sweatshirt. Frowning, she stopped abruptly, unzipped it, and removed it. at this point, she started to shiver and placed her sweatshirt back on. Kai hadn't even moved from her spot. Pip sighed and walked back to where he was sitting and sat back down beside him. "It's not fit for man or beast out here today," she said, the irritation clear on her tone. She then glanced at Kai and corrected herself, "fine, it's only fit for a man-beast."

Kai Grant - December 12, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
He blinked twice as he noticed her approaching him however, the sour expression she gave off in response to her motherly nickname, made him swallow silently. Uh-oh...He'd think if he didn't know better. She knew he was joking, he was sure of it, no malcontent was in the air so it was okay. He let his back rest into a horizontal position, head doing the same as their was no more space left to tilt his dome back. His eyes closed as he inhaled the cool air, chest heaving in doing so.

After several teases and remarks on her end, he was about to say something before she ran off. It wasn't particularly to get away from him; on the contrary, deducing this fact from her own words though, he knew she was out here for a rain and not a chit-chat. She hadn't expected anyone to be out here. The shivers on her form gave that much off, it was a bit too cold for her liking it seemed.

His eyes followed her but he couldn't see the entire track from his laid-back position, so with a quick nod to himself, he lifted his torso up from the ground, now sitting his butt down on the cold grass. Now he had a better view of the entire field and could follow her every movement alot better.

He chuckled to himself at the fact that the moment she removed it, her body was already on the edge because of the cold. It was quite amusing to watch...quickly correcting her own mistake and putting it back on without so much as a 5 minute delay. Kai led his hand towards the back of his head, fingers nimbly running through his ebon-red strands, in search of the piece of string he had in there and release his hair from it's subdued -tied back- position. Finally being able to do so, he looked to the side of him to notice that she had returned to him, apparently finding the weather too cold for any activity related to sport.

"I see. Excuse me for adopting traits from animals then. Dogs overheat easily so it's easy to get warm when I set my body to it." he said with a quick chuckle at the end, hand placed over his heart to feel the beat. In all honesty, he wasn't quite sure if it was his workout that made him speed up or it was the fact someone else was with him. He shook his head and ran his hands through his hair, styling his black to a position that didn't cover his face as much.

"Ya, know...Usually my smile does all the work for me...but your just hard to crack. I guess it's that sad scent I picked up when I met you the first time." he said, head turning to face her. He pouted his cheeks at her and shook his head a little bit, all in a gesture to be funny and to shake his remark off, if it was a bit offensive. Still, she should know better from him.

Piper Fuller - December 13, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)
((This is going to be really short. I just feel bad about not replying because I haven't been on lately a lot so I'm trying to post everything today. If you have a big problem with it, just PM me and I'll try and make it better.))

A smile formed on the girl's lips upon hearing his defensive words. She knew how it was. Everyone here at Aura Academy knew how it was. There were two things important in the world. The first one was their family and friends and the second was their ability. The cruelest words truly did cut more than a knife did sometimes and people often picked on other's abilities instead of anything else, saying that they were more powerful or something. Defending an ability wasn't just defending that power, it was defending everything that you stood for.

"Dogs also sweat through their mouths," Pip retorted with a crooked grin. "So I guess I can excuse all of the excessive drool always surrounding your mouth, right?" She was just teasing of course and as she did so, she reached up to her hair and did exactly what Kai had just done to his block locks to her blond ones. However, he probably took his hair down for comfort and she did so in order to warm the back of her neck some more.

Cold and Piper Fuller did not get along. They were not best friends and while she could tolerate the chill for a few minutes, she had to have a reason to do so. On days like this, her preference was to lie in her bed reading a book or watching television but she was in school now and that was not an option. Doing nothing around Aura was hardly ever an option and for someone who liked to do things every moment of the day, Aura was the perfect place for them to be. Piper Fuller, however, liked having respites when she didn't have to do anything. But today, she just had a lot on her mind and nobody ever removed things from their mind by sitting in bed thinking about them.

His words hit her like a brick. She exhumed sadness? She tried not to. Pip didn't want anyone to pity her. But following the bafflement, anger rose up in her. Even if he knew that there was something wrong, it was cruel of him to say anything. Even if it was Kai, there were things that you didn't just blurt out. Without saying another word, Piper lifted herself off of the ground and started to walk back in the direction of the school, her face as hard to read as an image carved in stone.

Kai Grant - December 13, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
Uh Oh

This was taking a turn for the worst, it seemed. Not only could he smell the insult having hit her more then he had intended to, in fact he didn't wish to insult her at all, but she was also avoiding the matter by walking away. Well, he shouldn't see it as avoiding, she was cross with him for having blurted that out. It was time to start rationalising here, in other places he'd be proud of this nature but this time it was dire...direly needed.

He jumped up immediatley as he sprinted after her and passed her, turning and looking at her, walking backwards in the process now. Her face was not happy, not at all, no muscle seemed to move. He mentally cussed at himself, swearing the biggest and baddest words in his native tongue to himself. If there was something he couldn't seem to cope with was hurting women. "Hey, I'm sorry. You know how I am, right ? Too honest for my good, just look at this situation." he said, smiling to cover up the obvious shame he was going through. It didn't work at all for her, or at least not that he could tell, he had to do better.

"Look, what I said back there made me sound like people- like myself- pity you. But I don't, I don't know what other people think but I don't pity you one bit. Come on, it's me." he cringed at his words as he reviewed them. It was rational but to say I don't know what other people think wasn't very uplifting. He clenched his fist at himself, quickly thinking of something else. He had alot more tricks up his sleeve to try out but the time didn't allow it, he had to fix it now.

"I know my limits. I don't say things like that with other's around, I just comfortable with you and I just wanted to be honest with you. Come on, I do not pity you...You know that. I'm your friend, I respect you." he said to no avail once again. This was hard so he thought about something to break this rock. It was gonna make him look like a fool but he didn't care. He went on all fours, still walking backwards, lowering his body even more to make his form completely horizontal, on par with his arms and legs that were all bended in the same angle.

"Okay..." he said, sticking his tongue out, whilst walking backwards in his position. "What kind of desert lizard am I now ?" he asked as he started his little riddle. His left arm lefted up from the ground as did his right leg, balancing his full weight on his right arm and left leg. He alternated. repeating the same pattern several times while still walking backwards, keeping ahead of her. "I'll give you a hint. He looks like he's on a hot plate...the same way I am now if you think about the situation." he commented, still acting like a dancing lizard, tongue whipping about and all. He looked like such an idiot...but at least he was giving his best, if she wanted to listen to him.

Piper Fuller - December 14, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
She heard the rustling in the grass behind her as he started to run towards her. But then he continued onward and she couldn't help but raise her eyebrows in shock. However, he then turned around and walked back towards her. Of course he did. Most people would try to appease someone whom they had just pissed off. And the would most probably succeed at appeasing most people if they made the effort. Piper Fuller's anger, however, was not easily assuaged. Not when it dealt with something that was aimed at the details of her life immediately before Aura. Any other time, she probably would just laugh an affront off, at least if it were from a friend. And she did consider Kai a friend.

But sometimes there were things that even a friend couldn't do. As he apologized, Pip just glared at him and crossed her arms across her torso. She stopped walking however, which at least signified that she was willing to listen to him. But just because she felt that everyone had a right to have a chance to be heard. Even if they didn't actually deserve it and at that moment, Piper wasn't quite sure that Kai had one. What he had said was like someone with empathy revealing to the world what another person's emotions were. You just didn't do that. Not here at Aura. Not anywhere in the world.

She listened but said nothing. All she heard was the apologetic tone and a few choice phrases. 'But I don't, I don't know what other people think but I don't pity you one bit.' That one troubled her more than it should have. Was she really that easy to read? Could everyone tell by looking at her that she had been hurt at the past? She tried so hard just to come off as someone who cared nothing about the world around her. And it didn't work? Speaking to her, one would surely know that she had not had the spoiled life that one would assume from someone living in Pip's shoes. But just by looking at her? She fervently hoped that this was not the case.

And then Kai started to dance around and imitate... Something. She had no idea what it was. No, she knew what it was. It was absurd. And an attempt to make her laugh. And honestly, it did make her laugh and it relieved the mood. Slightly, but it relieved the mood. She wanted to say something along the lines of telling him never to speak of her pain to her ever again, but that wouldn't really be appropriate, now would it? What she said had nothing to do with neither her little irritation nor his mimicry of who knows what. "So, what do you think of the newcomers to Aura?" Everyone was talking about the new students, so why shouldn't she?

Kai Grant - December 15, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
His form was slowly dropping signs of annoyance but not at her, it just rejected the imitation as it wasn't something he did regularly. But it sure was worth it when he heard her laugh, it made him forget about the cramp that was settling in his joints, a healthy kind of cramp but still... He fell flat on his belly, legs and arms spread out as he exhaled deeply, relieved that this matter had been resolved for now.

He lifted his head up to look at her from his laid-down position and thought about what she asked him. First things first though...He lifted himself up to his feet and off of the ground, returning to his full size as he swung his arms lightly around, getting rid of the cramp. What could he say about the new students ? He wasn't too sure about it. Rational thought kicked in. "From Nimbus, right ?" he asked, sure to get on the same wavelength as her before answering her question fully. It was kind of obvious if his suspicions were correct so he just shifted away from his previous thought of getting on the same level.

"I'm not too sure what to think. Their school burned down mysteriously and only 20 or so survived. It's quite possible that the one who started the fire is in that group as well...and arcenists have a knack to repeat their actions." he said with a serious face, arms crossed and eyes closed. Hmmm...But it could also be he was putting too much thought into this. After all, it could've been from the outside and placing the blame on one of the survivors is easy enough.

Out of nowhere, he smiled widely, eyes focused onto hers and he jumped up. "But there's no use thinking about that now. We don't even know them yet. Let's just get to know them and then we'll start the inquiries." he exclaimed but quickly jumping back to what he wanted to ask her.

"You...were talking about Nimbus right ?" He said, uncertain if that really was what she insinuated at.

Piper Fuller - December 16, 2007 12:05 AM (GMT)
Upon his first question, Pip merely nodded. Did he think she considered herself and the other freshmen new students any longer? It was December. Please! They had most definitely already been induced into the ways of Aura Academy. They were just as well versed in the ways of Aura as many of the older students, Kai included. But then again, he was just as new as she and the freshmen were so...

At his words, Piper merely shrugged and ran a hand through her blond locks. "I don't think outsiders are a good idea at Aura." It was as simple as that. Aura was for Aura students. Nobody else belonged. But there was more to that. And Pip knew it. She just didn't really feel like putting it into words, primarily because it embarrassed her. After all, most people at Aura wouldn't be innately prejudiced against these new students. But then again, most people at Aura Academy didn't have a deep sense of distrust built into their very core.

Pip nodded again, "yup. The Nimbus Students. Who would I be asking about? I don't think anybody else transfered in recently." But then again, Pip wasn't exactly the most observant of people. I mean really, who went outside on such a frigid day? Other than those who could become cold blooded, of course.
