Title: Foreign Traders
Description: What have they been smoking recently?
Malgas - April 1, 2008 04:11 AM (GMT)
I don't think I ever had it happen in the trial version, but since registering I keep getting jumped by foreign traders in my sleep. Has this been happening to anybody else?
The last time, I was camped out at a trap fence I was building, and I woke up because I thought I saw something move in the difference. There was a whole group of them sleeping right next to me. I began to withdraw, and they started waking up and going hostile. They then proceeded to wade right through my spike pit traps (taking heavy casualties) to come beat me to a pulp. I don't think I did anything that should have pissed them off.

never had a trader go hostile for no reason, so no idea what you did.
one piece of advice however, hide before moving in encounters. next time that happens, you might not only live, but escape unharmed.

Aargh! This is really getting old. This time I came back to my camp in the evening to find it overrun by foreign traders, but ignored them and went to sleep. The night was uneventful, and the traders were still about (but friendly) when I woke. I set about my morning business, and while drinking some milk for breakfast I find myself suddenly and unaccountably mobbed by hostile traders. Death soon followed.
I really don't understand what's happening, but it's killing my enjoyment of the game.

have you savescummed in any fashion since your last install?
It's been known to cause somewhat random and varied effects, from graphical glitches, to map alterations. perhaps your version got an odd tweak to the F.T. AI.
I'd say delete the UrW folder and reinstall.
If it's still around, then do some through documentation as to what causes it and email Sami.

Actually, this happend to me too, but I dismissed it as there was a plague about the area and I thought it drove them insane.
Only happend to that guy though, all further encounters with the traders have been peacefull.

hmm.. that's an idea.... just a streak of bad luck with plagues?

Plagues don't cause hostile behaviour, unless that was a feature that was added in secret (which I doubt).

Maybe it's a zombie plague? :D

Funny thing that. I was -just- thinking about if theres a way to mod the game into being a zombie survival game

i haven't had this problem before, but i was just strolling through a driikiläis village one evening and had looked through all the stores, even traded for a fishing rod and a couple nets. as i was leaving suddenly someone attacked me for no aparent reason. who knows, maybe my dog snarled at one of the children or something. anyway, now i have to leave the area, which happens to have lots of unexplored villages. i was hoping to find a place to settle nearby
maybe the driik don't like kaumos?
edit: well wtf?! i traveled to a different area, bought a bull and a cow from a driik villager, found a shelter within the village and went to sleep. some driikiläis maiden rudely wakes me up by attacking me with her puny small knife and a pair of dogs! i barely managed to run away from them and the villager without major injury and got far enough away to zoom out.
darn it, it's autumn and i need a place to spend the winter! Sami, are all the driikiläis maidens having pms issues or something? i swear that both times i was attacked some maiden started it. i've checked and rechecked, i don't have a single thing wielded and my animals haven't molested anyone. maybe the fact that i'm carrying a spear, battlesword, northern bow, broad knife and about 5 axes and wearing lots of armor have something to do with it, but this has never been a problem before  not my fault that foreign traders are generous ;)

This is strange... shouldn't happen. The foreign trades shouldn't either attack you without a reason. I'll try to find out what's the matter here and fix it before the next version is released.

Foreign traders attacked me again, in my sleep, fractured my eye (lol)
Elvensoul - April 11, 2008 08:36 AM (GMT)
Curious, cos I just thought that traders are sometimes hostile and sometimes not. Was wondering how to differ the baddies from the goodies.
Ive never attacked any traders or anybody else but I meet maybe 1 of 5 traders that were hostile towards me for no reason.

This will be fixed in the soon to be released new version. Foreign traders shouldn't be hostile. They are in a foreign country to do business, not to raid.
