Title: Where Do I Find Shops?

DrJonez - March 28, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
I keep seeing people mentioning "shops" in various posts, but I've never found one. All I ever seem to find are people who sometimes will trade with me, but it's annoying having to go through an entire village talking to every single person and asking to trade, especially when they sometimes look the same and you have no way of telling who you've already asked and who you haven't :(

So are there actual shops? Anytime I go inside the buildings in the villages they seem completely empty.

Also, how do I trade with the foreign traders? I've stumbled into huge groups of them before and they never have anything to trade. What's the deal?

Thanks! :)

Different cultures have different villages.

If you wander up in the extreme North, you will only find villages of Kuikka-, Owl-, or Seal-tribe , and they have no actual shops.

Go to the west and find the villages of Driik - they do have shops.

I think that the issue with the foreign traders has been discussed about earlier, so dig in the forum and you might find more info. If i remember it right, some were complaining that they too often find foreign traders with no goods to trade - but that just seems to be bad luck in row. Foreign trades don't carry tons of goods, and sometimes they have already traded away everything they had, and sometimes they still have something to trade with the player...

Well I also account the frequency of foreign traders with little goods to sell is the fact that they are moving from one settlement to another to trade, and therefore don't want to trade all their valuable goods to some dirty woodsman with a stack of branches in his pack.

They apparently dont have anything to offer me in exchange for this stack of snow fox furs

Shops don't appear on northern maps :(

Or if they do I haven't found them.

I only play Inland... On northern maps 1/2 the types of animals don't spawn due to the climate and finding pots and shovels to buy is extremely difficult.

On new characters choose the start outside the village option on an Inland map and you'll almost always get a village that has at least one shop.
