Title: Urw Roleplay
Styx - April 12, 2006 06:46 AM (GMT)
The rules: You can see it in the thread "Stupid Idea"
Post if you're participating, as soon as 3 others signed up, the game automatically starts: so you will have to post your equipment, skillz, and tribe, and others you can see below. (These should be related, a Kaumo doesn't suck at tracking, aye? I recommend you to start a character and look at the base values of its skills.)
After that, the game starts; people can join in midway, but have to find a company IN GAME. (Unless two people join at the same time.)
For example this is my char:
Claw Kiesseläinen (yes Hungarians can type ä)
Good abilities: Dexterity, Endurance, Eyesight, Hearing
Has Hydrophobia
Rituals: Request to catch a fox, General sacrifice
Good at Cookery, Tracking, Foraging, Fishing, Using a Dagger, Spear.
Bad at Timbercraft, Physician, Swimming
Inventory: Dagger, Small Flail, Kaumo Spear, Warhammer
Fur Shirt, Ring Shirt, Fur Leggings, Leather Shoes, Fur Hood
Fishing Rod
Rye Bread, 3 loaves of Flat Rye Bread, Pike-perch, 3 Hare Cuts
Personality: Claw is not a real name, his friends gave it to him because he once clawed up a hostile Njerpezit's throat with his own nails when he had no other weapons. Since he forgot his original name long ago, he just decided to keep the nickname.
Claw likes small companies, but not large ones, as he doesn't like sharing the spoils too much, but is otherwise quite socialistic. He loves different kinds of weapons and if he has two of something, he almost always trades it for something he hasn't got.
Murska - April 15, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
I did this char in URW and looked at the stats, then gave 'em here. Modded the inventory a bit, and made up the character.
Murska Reemiläinen
Good abilities: Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Endurance
Whatever he fears, he won't tell and his will can overwhelm it.
High will. Above average intelligence.
Rituals:Sacrifice for a newly killed animal, Greet the supernatural guardian.
Character: A bit dark, mostly sarcastic. Won't serve to lighten the mood, but can sometimes make people laugh. Grumpy, a little. Likes to stay alone, a bit away from other people. Thusly usually not found in a village. Always very alert, often the first to notice approaching creatures.(We could use someone that can sing, no?)
Good at: Survival, Ritual, Climbing, Sword, Bow.
Bad at: Physician, Tracking, Woodcarving, Swimming
Weapons: An old bow, which is still very strong.(Some life to the boring weapons.)
Ten arrows. Two short-average swords, other has slightly carved blade. Both are old. A knive.(Mostly non-combat.) Three throwing knives. Small axe.(Noncombat.)
Armor: Dark leather body, legs, boots and nimble gloves. Black metal helmet.
Food: Some wheat breads, some meat. Nothing spectacular. A water skin.
Tools: A rope.
Appearance: Looks like an assassin. Might be, no-one knows. Oh, and is male.
I know, this ain't exactly like in-game, but I think it's more fun this way. If I need to change, tell me.
EDIT: I would like my tribe to be out-of-character knowledge, as my char NEVER mentions anything of his history.
Styx - April 15, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
Great... oops I forgot something, the roleplay's gonna start in a summer day.
aislinn - April 15, 2006 04:40 PM (GMT)
right, sorry. i rolled a character in the game to get a more realistic starting list and got carried away playing the character and forgot to post here  sorry.
Taru Kaumolainen
She has strength, endourance, agility and smells and tastes great ;)
Taru is terrified of the big cats (read: lynx)
She has learned the sacred hunting incantation and the Fisher's request for a catch
She is good at: cooking, tracking, climbing, club & spear
She is terrible at: physician, swiming & fishing (hence the need for the above Request ;) )
The huntress carries with her: Kaumo knife and Spear, mace, hunting knife, juniper bow, 16 arrows, nettle tunic, fur leggings, laced leather shoes, woolen shirt, woolen leggings, leather shoes, empty skin, big lever trap, 3 rye breads, 1 wheat bread, 2 monnog mushrooms & 3 turnips (mmmm, 'shrooms!)
Young Taru is currently hunting the forests near a village for arctic fox or ermine pelts to trade for a throwing axe she's taken a fancy for in the village shop. She was born to a foreign trader and his Celtic wife, but they were slain in a Njerpez raid when Taru was a girl. Her stepfather Ahti had been a wise man and a hunter, and taught the young wildling all he knew before being slain himself by a pack of wolves. She loves hunting large game, but tries to maintain a trapline or two for the valuable furs of the littlest animals. She is strong and swift, but no mean fighter, prefering to travel alone most of the time.
read more of Taru's story under the heading "Taru The Huntress". i also have her phone # if any hunters are looking for a date ;)
Murska - April 17, 2006 09:15 AM (GMT)
I hope the fourth one has physician and swimming, otherwise our wounds are never going to be healed and we aren't going to be well suited with water.
EDIT: Styx, any personal info, like character and history? Would give this some life.
aislinn - April 18, 2006 07:52 AM (GMT)
come on, folks. i know this subject has gotten a lot of hits, so i'll asume you're either just shy or busy playing urw to join up. i can't believe it's shyness, as i suffer from that myself and know nothing about roleplay, but here i am.
we could use a healer or wiseguy, but if you have something else in mind, that's great too. the more the merrier (and with more people, i might not stand out so much as a bumblebunny ;) ).
pick up your spears, fill your water skins and join the cause! urw roleplay awaits!
Aristharus - April 18, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to join until I see what this is really about. You seem to have no GM of any kind, and thus no plot or story of any kind. URW's world is maybe a bit too empty for this kind of open-ended roleplay thing, and... I don't know. I want to see what you're going to do first.

I like this, though. An iron-age wiseguy. Collecting protection money.. umm.. protection furs from the shopkeepers for the Family. Making them offers they can't refuse.
Oh, you didn't mean that kinda "wiseguy"..? Oh, sorry..

Well, I thought that too, but as I knew I would never see it if it would never start, I decided to brace myself. Plus, we could have a council of sorts making up plot events.
Lunacre - April 18, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
Lunacre Kaumolainen:
He has good eyesight and good hearing, but he isn't as strong as people from Kaumolais tribe usually are (Mostly because his parrents were killed when he was 12 and after that he started to live alone.). He fears heights. Only ritual he knows is the ritual to stop wounds from bleeding. He is good at Physician and Fishing. He can handle a bow and spears very well, but is bad at tracking and in other weapon skills (Reason above). He can't climb well, but he can skin a dead animal very well and is good at swimming. He carries few pieces of old clothing (Mostly some self made fur clothes), fishing rod, 3 cooked pikes, Kaumolais spear, old Kaumolais knife, fishing net and skin of milk.
If something is missing, I'll add them later, because I'm really tired now... :)
aislinn - April 19, 2006 11:42 AM (GMT)
great, this is growing.... what next?

Suprise suprise...;) Also, I would really like to get some details from EVERYONE about their characters way of behaving, do they joke, sing? Are they friendly, suspicious, angry, confident?

I'll try to make up something, when I'll get an inspiration :)
aislinn - April 20, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
hmmm... well, Taru may sometimes sing, but she can't carry a tune. she does dance, though. she tends to be shy and a bit reclusive, usually hunting on her own, but is willing to share her campfire with another skilled hunter. she prefers leather clothing to metal, but is girl enough to decorate her clothes with bones, teeth, feathers and other nifty bits she finds, but don't ever ask her to put on a dress!
she's a bit cocky and likes to tease, but never means harm. she doesn't murder because she isn't enough of a fighter to survive the local lawkeepers, but if the merchant steps out of his shop an item might somehow make it's way into her pack without her noticing it. she doesn't approve of murder, but if some idiot falls into her pit trap (or gets nudged in?) she won't think twice about turning out his pockets. cannibalism is only for the desparately starving (yuk!).
Taru loves the taste of reindeer meat, and it makes the best sleeping furs. she's attracted to shiny things like a magpie. if anyone is interested, she's willing to trade her juniper bow and arrows for a sturdy shovel. she's also looking for one of those half-wolf-half-dog puppies to raise as a hunting dog.
if i think of anything else i'll let you know.
Murska - April 21, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
So, should we have that kind of a council I talked about, or any other method of keeping this interesting? The council would decide about plot events and other things, and could affect other peoples roleplay a little, like bring a Njerpezi on their path. Also, if there would be disputes, the council would vote. I háve a little experience with these, and I say if people just tell a story and do not interact, this will die. Fast.
EDIT: 200 views and only 14 replies...
Styx - April 22, 2006 12:42 PM (GMT)
Edited so that the personality is there. Now, the council is not a bad idea but we must decide who to get in. As we don't have too much members yet, I think a counsil of 3 will do... if yes, I shall be the first one.
Murska - April 22, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
I'd say the four people who came first. I can come, if let.
Lunacre - April 22, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
I can be one council member too.
aislinn - April 23, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
since having too many council members won't accomplish anything, i'll hang back unless asked. i will, however, volunteer to help come up with story ideas, etc.
Murska - April 24, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
We don't need to have three fourths of the people here as council members, but if this spreads, then we could use more people at the council. But should we start soon?
Styx - April 24, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah... who wants to start in a company with me?
aislinn - April 24, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
lead the way, styx man! what are we hunting this morning? :D
Styx - April 25, 2006 11:38 AM (GMT)
Uhh... shall we take that Lynx that ate my chocolate pudding yesterday?
...nah, I'm currently on a haretrack...
Murska - April 26, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
I'll join. What(or who) do we kill. :ph43r:
aislinn - April 26, 2006 03:15 PM (GMT)
:o i think i see a herd of elk in the distance, to the north of us. i'll go around to the right of the herd so they don't head into the swamp. if one of you will go around the left side and the other one slower up the middle, we can push them towards that lake up ahead. let's hope they don't swim away before we can nail a couple of them.
if we don't get enough hides to go around you can split them up, but i've got dibs on the tenderloin :P
i could shoot at them with my bow and arrows, but i'm better at using my spear. if either of you can get off a couple shots with range weapons we might wound a couple, then rush in with spears to finish them off.
p.s. Styx, i can't hunt the lynx that ate your chocolate pudding, because i'm terrified of big cats :( sorry.
Murska - April 27, 2006 04:21 AM (GMT)
All right. I'm middle. Someone has left a trap-pit there. It's not covered, but if they start going wild, one might drop. I can shoot some, but not until it's sure they move towards the lake.
Styx - April 27, 2006 11:46 AM (GMT)
I'll spear 'em till they die. Simple no?
aislinn - April 27, 2006 05:08 PM (GMT)
:P
the elk herd begins to move toward the lake in the distance, disturbed by the smell of hunter on one side and the sounds of excited spear rattling on the other. the adult elk see the pit trap ahead and skirt around both sides of it, but in the confusion of their distress a young calf trips on the edge of the trap and falls in, bawling in agony. the spooked herd moves faster toward the safety of the lake.
what happens next? :)
Murska - April 30, 2006 09:56 AM (GMT)
I start shooting at them, move closer to the young calf and finish it off.
(By the way, the elks would probably not notice me, as I took great care to stay under the wind, and I also covered my smell. Just FYI.)
EDIT: Where are you guys?
aislinn - May 15, 2006 03:47 PM (GMT)
(we seem to be missing styx - i mean claw)
the herd spooks completely as fierce noises come from their left flank - foul swearing and the clash of battle, maybe from njerpez warriors attacking the fierce claw, perhaps?!
terrified, the herd turns right and thunders directly towards the startled taru (me). i begin to fire arrows as fast as i can, wounding one of the huge beasts lightly, then as it nears i finish it off with my spear. i manage to blood another one in the hind leg before the bulk of the herd is upon me and i scamper up a nearby tree to avoid being plowed under the mossy earth. the tree limb quakes under my butt as they charge beneath my perch.
the wounded elk staggers after the herd, unable to run. blood runs down its fur in a steady stream, and the elk is unable to put weight on the injured leg. it slows down to a limp before stopping within sight of its fallen brethren lying under my tree. it looks mad, so i'm not ready to jump down to finish it off. maybe it will lose enough blood to weaken further.
 it turns back in my direction and limps back a ways to stare at me
Murska - May 16, 2006 10:32 AM (GMT)
I run at the scene, notice the situation and shoot the elk. It hits, and more blood gushes out, but the elk is still alive. I say to Taru I'll go and help Claw, if I can.
EDIT: Suddenly Lordi runs in and kills all the elks, then plays some great songs and leaves.
aislinn - June 8, 2006 10:55 AM (GMT)
 good one. i seem to still be sitting in the tree wondering where styx (i mean claw) has gotten off to. did he fall into a cave or was that commotion i heard Lordi coming onto the scene and he ran away with them?
 styx, where are you?! :(
we've got a heck of a lot of elks to skin and smoke
Murska - June 8, 2006 11:16 AM (GMT)
I found no trace of Claw. Then I go and start skinning elks. "Care to help? This is gonna take a LONG time. But at least we'll have enough meat to pack on the moving fridges(bulls) to survive for a long time. Heck, we could make a store!"
aislinn - June 8, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
we're gonna need some shelter here, we've got so much meat to deal with. i'll fix something up next to the lake, so we'll have fresh water to drink and to work into the skins. the fire is ready with lots of firewood nearby so it won't go out.
too bad we can't do something with the antlers, maybe saw the tines into lengths and string them for a necklace or something.... i know, i'm a magpie. i think i'm gonna make me a new shirt before we leave here, too.
so..... do you want ribs, tenderloin or a big, juicy steak for dinner? :P
Murska - June 9, 2006 12:12 PM (GMT)
"I don't care. If you can eat it, it's good enough. For the antlers, I am not skilled with those, but maybe we can trade them in the village nearby." Many elks are already skinned, I'm working really fast. The skins are piled near the lake. "5 elks gone, somewhere around 20 left..." (So, let's speed this up. A post per day, prefarably more, ok? anyone else reading this, WE NEED MORE PLAYERS!)
EDIT: Sell changed into Trade.
aislinn - June 10, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
B) the smell of roasting meat wafts in the air, the birds are singing and the sun is shining (hey, i'm getting a tan!). by the end of the day we have half the carcases skinned and the meat is ready for cooking. i'll spend the evening working on the skins (we'll never eat this much meat) then i think i'm gonna head out for the village in the morning with as much meat as i can carry. i need a dog and i'll see if i can't wrangle them out of a couple of bulls to use as pack animals.
i'll be back by midday tomorrow, remember to keep fires lit around the area to keep preditors away. they'll surely come to the smell of blood.
maybe we should set up some traps nearby. fox, wolf and bear live in this forest and their furs are good for trade.
 twenty elk?! glad i like meat :P
Murska - June 11, 2006 06:06 PM (GMT)
Murska checks the traps and makes sure the fires will burn. Then, pretty tired, he climbs into a shelter he made in a tree. He removes most gear and starts watching around. With the things I am going to acquire with my share of these, I can finally start hunting him. But I still need training, though. Wherever did that Claw fellow disappear? Well, I'll think of that in the morning.
(Hunting WHO? You'll find out... Soon. :ph43r: )
aislinn - June 14, 2006 07:10 AM (GMT)
jumpin' jimmeny! you'll never believe it! i got that throwing axe i've been drooling over for half-price!
it seems the merchant and his family are feeling a bit ill at the moment and are trying to get rid of as many of their goods as they can so they can travel to a warmer climate to recover. silly people, where are they going to find a warmer climate in finland?
i brought back two strong bulls to carry our bounty, here's the rope for your animal. i named mine urho the strong. i also got myself a dog - at least the trapper i got him from said he's a dog. he's underfed, long-legged, big-pawed and ill-tempered, and i think he's part wolf, but he's one heck of a guard dog. last night on our way back a njerpez tried to sneak into our camp and slit my throat, but my dog leapt out of the shadows and tore his throat out with one bite, then ate his face :ph43r: . got to admit, it improved his looks ;) . the dog has one blue eye and one green eye, and i think i'm gonna call him cujo.
i looked over the dead njerpez in the morning and took everything he had. his trousers were a loss because cujo had a taste of him while i wasn't looking, so i made them into cords. he also had a northern bow, 14 arrows, his scimitar and an empty pot that he didn't need anymore, so i helped myself. the long ring shirt he was wearing (he must have killed someone for it) fits me like a glove, too. i left his carcass for the wild animals to scatter, like his kind did to my parents when i was a child.
most of the meat and hides are packed on the bulls, i have a new shirt and we've got lots of furs from the traps around our camp. now that the hard work is over i'm feeling uneasy about this place. the local spirits probably aren't too happy with us for all the dead animals, and i got bad vibes from the village when i visited it. i couldn't see anything really wrong, but something wasn't right, either. i have a feeling that sickness is coming this way, and i for one would like to get out of this region while i'm still in fine health. what do you say? shall we head north for reindeer, east for adventure, south for trading or west on a fishing trip? point your bull in the right direction and i'll be right behind.
Murska - June 14, 2006 10:59 AM (GMT)
"A warmer climate? Perhaps... south?:P In any way, we better head south, as I, for one, don't need anything else to carry with me right now. I'm gonna trade these hides and most of my meat away for some equipment." As well as this bull.
*Murska turns and starts walking south with his bull.*
((BTW, how exactly did we meet before this elk hunting trip? My character, for one, is the lone wolf type...))
aislinn - June 15, 2006 07:57 AM (GMT)
((Taru isn't very sociable either, but without interaction between live characters it's more storytelling than roleplay. we just need more people to show up from time to time, even for just one or two turns to keep things lively))
*history: i was on a rare trip to this village i had found because i needed a new throwing axe. i met claw there, who said there was a huge elk herd nearby. he asked me to come along, and we'd split whatever we were able to kill. on our way out of town we found you beating up two ruffians and decided you were the kind of guy we could use on this hunting trip.*
south sounds fine for now, i hear there's some more settlements that way and i want to trade some of this stuff for a couple nets and some salt. once i find those things, tho, i plan on turning east. i dream of a little cottage on a lake where i can fish and hunt in peace. maybe i'll grow a few turnips and peas in the back. anyway, i'm not in a hurry anywhere just yet, so i'll follow along for a while.
ooohh, look at that bird with the shiny feathers! those would look really neat in my hair.....
