Title: My Animal Farm, And A Battle
Styx - February 14, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
Last time, I decided to experiment a little bit: I tried to make an animal farm. First I killed a heap of animals that has leather. Then I made leather ropes.
When an animal sleeps, he can be leashed. So in the night, I readied a few ropes and got a decent herd: an elk, a wild reindeer, a pig (BOUGHT!), a lynx, and 2 pine-marten.
Suddenly, I found myself facing a bear. Wow, I thought, and I readied yet another rope. But at the wrong moment... a branch snapped under my feet, and the bear woke up!
We started combat (I with the Kaumolais spear, he with the paws). I nailed him at the legs. Then he got up and struck me a few times for GREAT injuries. I was dying.
Suddenly, the wild reindeer landed a hit on the bear. I dropped almost all I had, because of my injuries, except a few pieces of firewood for fractures, and a little water for shallow tears. I moved out of sight and treated my wounds.
The bear already killed my wild reindeer and also my pine-marten. So I picked my spear up. I went behind the bear, and struck him down.
The backstab fell him to his legs. A few more thrusts and he learnt not to mess with a whole horde.
An animal farm can be effective.
Afterlife: I became uber-confident with my success, and as soon all my wounds were just scars, I decided to take on a Njerpezit camp with a renewed horde:elk, pig, lynx, stag, wild dog, 2 dogs (BOUGHT!) and a weasel. But I didn't survive this one.

Overconfidence can kill ANYONE in ANY roguelike, while you may THINK you have everything.
Confidence may be the most useless of them all... Bwahahahah. Kidding, really, confidence is good in some cases.
Oh and good story.

A bear follows you around if you manage to rope it?
Does this work?
Idea: get 3 bears and go after the Njerpez.

You can talk to Njerpez if you sneak up on them and talk to them before they notice you and become aggresive, you can even have them become your companions if you bring them what you want. THey are just like normal NPCs, but become hostile if they see you.
