Title: The Random Starting Conditions Challenge!
Description: let's do this thing!

FadeThen - July 21, 2008 03:29 AM (GMT)
A new challenge for those of you who are bored of just becoming the King/Queen of the forest. As most of you know, there is a random conditions generator in the Finnish Names thread. The challenge is to make a character using those conditions and documenting the life (and possible death) of said character. I'll start.

Name: Fade
Kaumolainen
Summer
0. The Unreal World

So far so good- Fade's found a village of Reemi, and has a good portion of her house built. Hunting's been good, and there's lots of leather/hides/furs to be had. Just fortifying the stronghold. More updates when something interesting happens.

UrW Time: 17-Jun, Midnight, Year 16

Got two new Rituals: Favourableness of the Trap and Blood-staunching Prayer. After I finish the main bulk of the house, I'll journey to one of the villages nearby and look for a sage. Also, I have enough smoked/dried meat to last me a while, and the river nearby is extremely handy. Soon I'll have the main walls built.

:( Doesn't anyone want to play?

Killed a friggin' BEAR. :D I love my dogs, they are so useful. Also, finished the house, a fence, and a cellar. Things are good. Going out for stones for a fireplace tomorrow.

I want to play! :D

Name: Roosa
Tribe: Reemi
Season: Winter
Scenario: Runaway Slave

Meep, the hardest settings! This should be fun. Or very short. Or both. ;)

:D Good luck with that. I was lucky.

Anyway

Killed three elks, a bear and a wild reindeer. :D I am going to have so much meat this winter, thank god or salt and smoke. I guess I picked really good hunting grounds! Also finished the fireplace, a fence, two rafts and some winter clothes.

Just FWIW, I've been doing fully-random starting conditions for years. ;-)

As have I. Though, let me tell your, Diirk + Winter + Runaway Slave never lasts long.

Well, that was shortlived. I found an adventurer, asked him for directions to the nearest town. He gave me them, and when climbing trees I noticed a lynx. I started off to the northeast and was teleported to the sleeping lynx, who woke up the second I got there. I tried leashing him with a cord (damnit. :( ) which failed so I just equipped my staff and we fought until he ripped my head off.

Next up:

Eetu
Driikiläinen
Winter
1. The Village

Which ended when I found I had no shovel or axe, so I went looking for someone who did, accidentally traded away most of my food, killed a few shopkeeps, then ran out of food, got tons of frostbite because I had no skill in survival, picked up two axes by mistake, got trapped in the store because I couldn't buy anything and died of frostbite.

Mine is:

Name: Jari
Tribe: Islander
Season: Winter
Scenario: Abandoned Camp

Uh-oh. I never started in winter before. I wonder how long I'll last unless I get lucky.

Just so you all know, I think I'll do this once I get back home and register this new version. Damn, been a long time since I played.

EDIT: I generated the character here anyways. It is: Jan of the Driikilainen tribe, starting his adventure in Spring, under scenario 8: Abandoned trap-fence. I hope that game mode exists still ^^

Well, this was quite dumb. Let me recount it.

I surveyed the trapfence, now not abandoned, courtesy of Jan Driikiläinen(tm :P). After lengthening the trapfence a bit, and putting stakes into and covering the existing trap pit, I decided to hunt around since my sheep cuts and flat bread wouldn't last long. Made a javelin and set out. First catch was a squirrel, not far south from the fence. I made camp near the lake it was at, shelter and all, and tanned the hide, after cooking the single cut.

The next one was better! I caught a small forest reindeer. I figured, however, that most of it will go to waste, since I had no way of preserving meat yet other than roasting, so only took 21 cuts - 20 for cooking and 1 as bait for the trap. I set the bait and left again. My next two catches were a black grouse and a fox. Both skinned and cooked. At this point I got the news that the Njerpez have set up camp in the region! The bastards. I decided to go look for a village, perhaps get a companion and try to ambush some lone scouts perhaps. Well, 4-5 days of scouting proved futile, when suddenly I sighted an adventurer on the other side of the lake I was at! I went around the lake, but when I zoomed in to him I lost sight of him... and climbing a nearby tree in the wilderness map didn't bring good results either. But then suddenly, I spotted a Koivulais village on the other side of the OTHER lake I was near. Well, the lake was long, so I figured I'd try and swim across a thin section. Big mistake. With my 22% swimming, and tired status I passed out and drowned in the middle of the lake. Damn. Survived 9 days.

And it only gets harder. Next up: Jan II, Kaumolainen, Winter, Agriculture. =/
