I was having a talk with a lakota friend of mine and the subject of her business came up. She drives around during the ren. faire seasons and sells hand made bags, clothes, necklaces and the like. The talk set the wheels in my head spinning. I didn't see this subject discussed on the forums so I thought I should bring it up.
Embroidery could be for clothes what woodcarving is for wood.
beading could be used for the same thing or better to change a cloth/leather/fur garment into a more protective one. Take a few hundred beads (made from bone, stone, or wood) and an existing garment, a few hours of work done in increments (Beading, if you've never tried it, takes a long time).
Next on the list would be the spindle and an addition to agriculture.First agriculture and the ability to grow flax or cotton, or the ability to shear sheep.
With the flax you'd need some water for retting before you could spin it, but with the cotton or wool you'd be ready to go straight to the spindle and spin away. Moving on to your loom and you get linen, cotton, or fleece respectively and more variety in clothing.
Just a few thoughts of course, and I think I've had enough kava for tonight.
