Title: Few Questions...

Skyrage2 - May 30, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Well, I dunno how much the game has actually changed from the last couple of years since I really played it and I'm positive I've forgotten about a few things, but I am wondering about them nevertheless:

Can you gain new cooking recipes because unless I remember incorrectly I think that you were able to do a few more things before, like regular bread?

And speaking of which, is regular bread (not flat) only found in certain tribe villages nowadays?

Leather: which animals produce leather? I assume that cows do that, but weren't there any wild animals as well?

Does village shops still not resupply?

1 - Afaik, no, you can't gain new recipes (I haven't played longer than the first winter though yet, so ;p)

2 - I've not found regular bread anywhere at all.

3 - Leather is produced by Pigs, Cattle, Grouse, Dogs, Boards and Grouse.

http://www.freewebs.com/unrealthoth/WinterSurvival.htm has a table for armour types etc. Not sure if that's correct to the current version though.

4 - I think they do resupply, but I don't think animals restock as it were (from what I've seen in the limited games I've played.

1> Negative, the recipes you start with are the ones you have.

I seem to remember being able to cook berry and vegetable soup at one point....

2> Honestly, I haven't found ANY bread, so I can't help you.

Also, different tribes (check your F6 map) have different types of settlements. If you can't find what you are looking for, try a different tribe's region.

3> Lupiscnais answered the question well.

4> Shops do seem to resupply, though a bit slowly. It seems to occur at random, as well.

Cheers...that would explain my lack of leather - not encountered any of those wild animals yet.

Yeah, you only seem to start with regular bread sometimes, which kinda is a shame. As for the berry soups etc, I do recall that there were something like that around as well.
Kinda wonder why it disappeared cause I like having a lot of variety.

I'm glad that shops seem to resupply though. That was highly needed.

Talking about leather - from what I've seen, if you want any, your best bet is to go with finding a village and trading some javelins or bowls for a few cows or pigs. I've not found any large groupings of dogs or boars or anything that I can kill for leather.

My guess would be that some of these things are missing because of the recent work on the game. I mean, it been ported, and expanded, and is still very much a work in progress. When some of the missing things get added back in, they're probably going to be a lot more detailed than before.

I'm really impressed with the recent work on the game, and I am looking forward to the ultimate product.

Nitus hit it on the head, the latest feature lists mentions: "A few recipes, for example fish soup and veggie dish, have been removed to be added later on with more detail."

I'm really missing meat dishes and can't wait for them to come back. I don't even know what to do with my bread for now.

Also, has anyone else noticed with the new way that items stack on the ground cooked food is much easier to spot? If you start up 20 roasted meat next to your fire you'll only see one icon but the second they're cooked the icon will change to illustrate that there are multiple cooked meats on the ground. It kind of looks like a meat explosion...and I like it.

Yeah, that 'feature' is somewhat nice, although I wonder if it was intended :P

All in all I think it's a bug since generally when you drop stuff, you will see the number of items on the ground, which isn't the case whenever you use a skill and apply it on stack of items.

Bit of a shame at the same time cause you can bypass smell checks like that and I generally like playing games like these through the ability of the character rather than myself.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the return of the food varieties and...well, any other addition that might appear.

Actually, I hadn't noticed, I'll have to look for that next time. :D

New question: about those foreign traders who whine about wanting lynx furs etc yet refuse to accept any...what's up with that? What exactly is it that they want?

It's a bug. Not sure if Sami fixed it with the latest release.

It's listed as being fixed in the latest version.
