Title: Tutorial (advanced Version)

Lupiscanis - May 27, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
Query about the 'advanced' tutorial. I've been trying to do the two tutorials and I've run into an issue.

Essentially, I'm a little curious about the campaign maps. Is it possible to 'save' a map so that when you transfer to another, you can come back to the one you were playing and carry on where you left off?

I've spent the first few months doing some trading, getting a house and paddock set up, got a few animals in the field, planted some crops, bought some nets and started salting and smoking some food before winter, but my issue is that now the next stage in the advanced tutorial requires me to go to the inland (kuamo furs) so that I can hunt and kill an animal in a specific territory.

Will I simply lose everything I've done, or is it possible to come back to the original map?

AFAIK, you can only save maps at generation (i.e. absent of user influence)

There may be a file/data-level workaround, but in general, nope, once you change campaigns, the area no longer exists.

For anyone that's been through both tutorials: How many tasks in the tutorial involve changing campaigns? Or I suppose specifically which tasks involve being in a specific area (inland, northern, or archipelago)?

It's already late in the year, I'm torn between trying to get myself a home for winter or preparing to be a bum in some settlement when it gets cold. I'm worried though that I'll build a nice house that I'll have to abandon in the future.

From what I've seen so far - One of the advanced tutorials requires you to obtain salt, which is (from what I've gathered) next to never found in North, rarely found in Inland and mostly found in Archipelago (where I got mine). One of the other tasks requires you to hunt in a specific region.. the dark green one i think (kuamo furs) it appears on both north and inland maps.

Other than that, I haven't found any other region specific quests.

There is also a task (in advanced gamecourse) to trade for a northern knife/spear/bow. These are mostly found on northern maps...

Yeah, I'm still a little displeased about that. I've had to abandon my house TWICE now to complete the advanced course.....

But I got a lot of experience in renovating caves.

Say, what's the reward for that, anyway? I've been looking for a bear forever....

thanks for the info. I'd been stuck on the bear one too, when I finally found one he went down after bleeding all over the place from one shot to the eye with a crappy hand made short bow (bow skill 60%). The spirits must be very happy with me today.

I'm stuck on the archery task. I've gone from 58% to 61% and I'm just hoping the threshold is at 63% (which would be a 5% gain).

I say somewhere Sami mention some of the new tasks were delaying recognition, so it may be I just have to wait a few weeks.

The salt task, for instance, waited to trigger until 3-4 days after my 3rd of 4th (traded for) bag. That was really annoying since I had traded for one in a Driik village...thought it HAD to be on an island, spent three weeks punting around islander territory (their trade sucks), gave up, went back to the same cluster of Driik villages, bought EVERY bag they had, and then it triggered.

Sami might want to re-examine the logic in that task.

The advanced course IS kinda a pain with the map changes. Without the map changes it would be fun, or if you had the ability to save maps and go back to them with your house intact it would be fine. Maybe in future versions? We can always hope.

Unless it has changed recently, the advanced course reward is the same as the basic course. I haven't did the advanced course in the latest versions so it could have been changed, but probably hasn't.

Ah yes the advanced course, I've never managed to finish it even once...

Good day to you all, this is Blaze. First time poster, long time lurker.

I have a question about a certain task that must be fulfilled, namely the "learn a new ritual" task.

Is it still possible to complete this even when you know all rituals available?

Come to think of it, is it possible to complete the bow skill task if you have your bow skill at 100%(Hypothetical question, my skill is at 77.)

What else...

Oh right, I managed to complete the trade for salt task by dropping a bag of salt and moving onto a "trader's zone" then trading javelins to get it back. A small price to pay to become closer to the finish.

The answer is yes to both questions.

The task check is made when a new ritual learning level has been achieved, and also when the skill improve roll for the bow skill comes up.
