The human civilization as we know it has basically collapsed. Political tensions come to a head as governments dissolve into nothingness. It all went over suprisingly quietly, with only a handfull of riots occuring world-wide. It was during one of these riots, however, that a hill was detonated, revealing... Metal walls???
Over a course of events triggered by this which I would rather not go into right now, the existance of the people were revealed to the humans.
