Title: Fellblade
Description: Pre Heresey Marine Super Heavy

Penguin of Death - December 4, 2007 01:59 PM (GMT)
For ages I wanted to design a Marine Super Heavy, and anyone who has seen my project log should see that with the Wolfblade I have managed to use the design cues of Marine vehicles to do just that.
But the Wolfblade is based on all of the most recent versions of the Marine vehicles, next up is a Fellblade based on the original MKI vehicles.
The only visual reference I have is from the Horus Heresy Card Game

So using this and images of the older models I have got this so far

Obviously it is very WIP at the moment, but opinions would be welcome.
I need a top down view of an old Pred to see what the turret does and I'd prefer to use the curved sponsons to the squared off ones, though I don't know how to incorporate the lascannon into them as well.
I may make some of the superstructure overhang the tracks as it looks strangely narrow at the moment

I adore the original resemblance between the 1st edition land raider and the fellblade's tracks in the scematics. Let us worship you dude, for all we need is just that feeling :)

Looks good, tho I think the mesh part needs to be smaller, and the track section needs to look more like the baneblade, at the minute it looks too sleek.

The Mesh section is the same proportion as the Raider, but will probably be made smaller, the tracks are unlikely to change

In that card, I'm also seeing the same co-axial autocannon and turret TL Heavy Bolters that the baneblade comes with. They don't seem to be on your schematic there...

Nice idea though, I can't wait to see how this plays out.

I made a fellblade for my SoH but I went the cheap way and pretty much just added spikes,oh also changed the lascannons to autocannons.

Bit of an update, still no idea about the lascannon or the exact layout of the rear and the superstructure

that's gonna look amazing when it's done... i've always liked the look of 2nd ed/RT era things... can't wait to see this done

[baldrick]I have a cunning plan[/baldrick]

May have solved the sponsons and kept to old style designs.
If I space the H.Bolters out a bit mot I can put the lascannon in between them the same way as the old Razorback had it's lascannon between a couple of plasma guns

Opinions?

Penguin of Death - December 6, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Minor tweaks in my lunchhour:

Hull H.Bolters in domed turret similat to the main one
Demolisher from the old Vindicator.
Sponsons revised to hold all lascannon too, and weapons extended backwards so they stick out the back of the dome as on the Pred

That is looking like a good plan so far PoD. Go for it, I'd love to see a true Pre-Heresy Fellblade made by you.

Don't forget the co-axial autocannon!

Autocannon has just been pointed out on a nother forum, probably be alongside the main gun as in the picture, probably with a targeter on the otherside to balance it out

...damn, beaten to it by someone else on another forum.

I wouldn't add a targeter to it, I think you should try and save the rounded turret. Adding a targeter might make it too busy and you need the extra space for spikes and chaos stars on it...to make it chaos busy! ;)

Man, that's just proof that no one reads my posts.

Why do I even bother?!

I might have also mentioned the autocannon a few posts up, so not only were you beat to it by a poster on another forum, I'd venture to say that I beat you to it as well. ;)

That schematic is starting to look better and better every time.

When do you plan on starting the actual construction?

3vilX - December 6, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
looking good! any idea on how you're gonna make the turret? because i'm motivated to make one of these, I'm thinking poly styrene balls might work.

Penguin of Death - December 6, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
Construction!?!

No idea, still haven't finished the Wolfblade, I'm currently carving through the sides of it to fit sponsons

The sponsons are hemispheres, so if I can find a ballthe right size I can cut it in half, or maybe deodourant lids. Polystyrene balls are a cunning plan.

Sorry Thoth, didn't mean to ignore you!

jasevx - December 6, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
This will be awesome seeing what you did with the Wolfblade!

Hehe, credit where it's due! :P ;)

Sorry mate, I just posted what I could to be helpful with some downtime at the college library.

I really want to see this thing, I think it is a great idea...wouldn't be surprised if FW does this soon to make up for the loss in the Baneblade market btw...

Still no clue what to do with th erear of the Hull and the Engine other than scaling up the old Rhino exhausts and sticking 4 of them along the back. Other idea is the stop the Hull before the end of the tracks like the 'raider

Anyone have any suitable RT style suggestions?

Penguin of Death - December 13, 2007 01:40 PM (GMT)
Version 4

Shortened the hull so it stops befor the end of the tracks and added some old style exhausts.
Tidied up the superstructure so it make a bit more sense
Added the Autocannon to the side of the main gun and a targeting array to the other side to balance it out

That looks very impressive :)
One small point of practicality; I can't see how the side sponsons would be able to fire at an anlge other than straight ahead.

Penguin of Death - December 14, 2007 09:26 AM (GMT)
They're just like ball turrets, they swivel around the centre point of the dome for up and down. Then the three guns will elevate as one.
It looks a bit odd with the end of the guns sticking out of the back of the ball, but this is roughly how it is on the old Preds, the dome is hollow enough that when the gun elvates the rear end dissapears inside it.
Though if this is all too difficult I'll simplify it.

Shopping at the weekend so plasticard on the list and I may get a proper circle cutter to help with this build

Arhalien - December 15, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Sounds very clever; I hope you can pull it off :)

Penguin of Death - January 6, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
I recommend an arty girlfriend, they get you useful stuff for Christmas - a circle cutter!

Mentioned in my main log I have done a bit more work on this, but I have hit a bit of a snag. I glued some struts in place to look at the width of each track assemly and realised quite how much of the wheels you can see. To make it look remotely realistic they need to be at least 3mm, this would mean cutting out another 2 sets.

So now I'm considering the cursed arts! Yes I shall summon a demon and make him do it - failing that I'll investigate casting.

Currently I know nothing much about it or where to find supplies, but on the plus side it would enable me to make a shedload of wheels of any thickness I want and to give them a bit of detail too.
Following on from that I could also look at doing the track links I need in the same way and also making some detailed links to cover the exposed ones on the Wolfblade too
