Well, when i was on warseer, many people asked me how i did my tau camo. As i am working on my third devilfish hull i just thought i would give you an up to date tutorial as i go through the process.

(check my photobucketed models in my signiature to see examples)

Step 1:

Decide on what colour scheme you want. Two colours, 3 colours, 4 colours? How irregular do you want the pattern? Do you want set amounts of different colour? What order do you want your colours layered in? etc.

Let us say that we are going to do the devilfish i am working on at the moment. The scheme uses 3 colours:

Skull White
Fortress Grey
Shadow Grey

So you now need to select highlights and shades for your colours. If you want, basecoats as well. You may want to not highlight one colour for variation. For my devilfish they are:

Primary: Skull White
Shade: Fortress Grey

Basecoat: Astronomican Grey
Primary: Fortress Grey
Shade: Codex Grey
Highlight: Fortress Grey + Skull White

Primary: Shadow Grey
Shade: Shadow Grey + Chaos Black
Highlight: Shadow Grey + Skull White

Step 2: Basecoat
Basecoat the model to your satisfaction. in my case, 4 or 5 thin coats of spray does the trick, getting in all angles. I then paint all of the black parts of my model black.

Step 3: Marking
Take a sharp pencil and a steady hand (steal one if you have to) and draw out the first shade markings.

Thats it so far, photos will be up soon!

Step 4: Crack down some rough patches of your first colour, then ply a second coat if necessary. Take a fine detail brush and paint slightly over the lines. That gets rid of any visible pencil.

Step 5: Pencil out second colour

Step 6: Repeat Step 4 for second colour.

You should now have something like this:

(One on the right)

Step 7: You now need to shade down the colours into the cracks. Do this by mixing an appropriate amount of chaos black with each colour and running it into seams using a fine brush.

Step 8: Funnily enough, your model now needs highlighting. Take the original colour and mix it with an appropriate amount of skull white. Highlight all of the extreme edges, such as the edges of the seams between armour plates.

Step 9: Thin this mix down and apply it (thinly) to curves.

Step 10: Apply all fine detail to the model.

You should now have this:
