Title: Stormhammer project
esinhorn - November 22, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
After building my first baneblade,I set my sights higher and wanted the be all end all of Imperial tanks the Stormhammer
http://www.solegends.com/citcat9x3/c92414e...machines-03.htmThe first hurdle I had to overcome was how to cram 2 turrets on the chassis.
I basically had to chop the chassis all to hell and just use the top part.
I had to raise the back turret quite a bit and used card to redo the chassis

Here is a rough on how the turrets will fit the bottom turret is going to be fixed as I don,t want to chop my second chassis to get the turret ring.
The top will be the moveable turret

Here is the front of the raised chassis with card, still tons of work got to g/s the edges, rivets, more armor plate, did I say rivets

some more german related super heavy gold from you esinhorn, going to follow this with awe
Stagger_Lee - November 22, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Great idea. Stormhammers bring back so many memories of the old days.
I think you need to alter the shape of the upper hull to allow the forward turret to move properly. I think it would be better squared off a bit.
Another possibility would be to have the front turret aligned to the right to provide a little more room. It seemed to work for the original epic one anyway.
A stormhammer is on my list of things to do so I have had a good look at the components and think the turrets may be a little large. I was planning squaring off the sides and leaving off the storage bin at the rear. Allows a little more room.
Are you planning raising the rear sponsons to the height of the upper hull or leaving them in the normal position? Just curious.
Mr Zephy - November 22, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
This is seriously awesome. I want one so bad. :o
esinhorn - November 23, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)
some more work done

esinhorn - November 24, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
Some green stuff for the edges, twin gun goodness.
I am making the top turret big with the added rear.
For the lower I may try to square off the back but I'm definetly making the cannons a touch shorter buy cutting down to the second ring

with side turrets

Merceus - November 24, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
That is awesome! I want one!!!
Lord Commander Eidolon - November 24, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
esinhorn please bear in mind that the stormhammers can have 2 hull mounted demolisher cannons, but if you wish to go with the 4 battlecannons then awesome, need to see it with 2 turrets soon mate :D
esinhorn - November 24, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Lord Commander please check out the link on the first post.
The original model had 2 turrets no demoshlishers.
I know the guy from GW put 2 demolishers in his scratch built one.
But he cheated :P
by_the_emperor! - November 24, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
more!!!
more!!!!
your gs skill rule, but how do you make those gs-nails
Lord Commander Eidolon - November 24, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
no mate a forgeworld(i think ryza did a streetfighting one, which had demolisher cannons, i know the original epic models had 2 turrets, but fluffwise there was one with 2 demolisher cannons on
esinhorn - November 24, 2007 09:23 PM (GMT)
real easy I just use the end of a mechanical pencil with no lead.
Eilodon,I hope I can find background fluff to back that up cause I will Redo the spare chassis to have twin demolishers and just swap the main turret.
I like to have twin demolishers at my disposal :)
note:I just read in wikipedia that sources back both stlyes of stormhammers.
Does anyone know where I can find the background fluff on this tank?
Lord Commander Eidolon - November 24, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
glad to be of help mate, i may have a go at a stormhammer myself sometime bit inspirational

I have one question; why the hell do you use super-glue to glue plasticard? Plasticard is from the same material plastic miniatures are made of, using plastic-glue is a lot better as it'll melt together. This also saves some time at filling gaps. ;)
Otherwise it looks good though, looking forward to see it painted. :)
Lord Commander Eidolon - November 25, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
he might want an instant joint of it instead of waiting for it to melt, also if he makes a mistake he can pull it off easier

I refuse to use plastic glue for exactly that reason, if you use it you are stuck with what you've completed whereas with superglue if you screw up, you stick it in the freezer for an hour and it falls apart.
How do you think I make my Armoured Regiment on a budget? ;)
Great work so far tho! Id have used rivet strips instead of the GS tho, to much work! :P
Digits - November 25, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
A bold and awsome project! Kit bashing a £60 model set takes a lot of balls!
Looking forward to seeing this one finished.
esinhorn - November 25, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
The second turret cometh
esinhorn - November 26, 2007 06:58 AM (GMT)
scrubout - November 26, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
If you can I'd suggest moving the bottom turret just a tad to the left. Otherwise, it's looking real good.

I agree with Scrubby, be nice nice to see the rear view as well, great work eisenhorn!
charlie_c67 - November 26, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
I third that. And perhaps GS or plasticard the mount for the lascannon on the sponsons.
esinhorn - November 27, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
no I have the second set, just lazy.
esinhorn - November 27, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
I got to be honest I secretly hated the plasticard front and almost wanted to rip it off,
until I added the viewports :) it really brought it together.

jasevx - November 27, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
thats coming along superbly! I haven't seen the design before but if it has forward lascannon turrets wouldn't they stop the forward main turret traversing?
esinhorn - November 28, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I am about to add the side sponsons and cannot decide whether to make all 4 bolters foward facing,or have one set facing foward one set facing backward.
what do you guys think?

esinhorn - November 30, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
Here it is with the construction about 90% done.
I felt this Machine needed a bigger crew served weapon than a heavy stubber,so I mixed and matched and made a light autocannon instead.
I am making this an Ad-Mech machine so I can use for any time period with Mars pattern camoflauge.
And I have the Forgeworld Titan techpriest as the commander.

Lord Commander Eidolon - November 30, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
that looks awesome mate, inspiring also ;)
jasevx - November 30, 2007 06:30 AM (GMT)
eisenhorn, any chance of a shot from the rear?
Edit: I've VDR'd the points, 1470 pts!
Just make sure you get first shot with this baby otherwise it will be a fire magnet! :P
esinhorn - December 2, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
I'll post a rear shot as soon as I'm finished painting the metal.
I did,nt really have to do anything to the back only on the chassis that I raised
1470 huh wow
This is becoming an Ad-Mech one maybe they crammed a void shield in somewhere
1670 :P
esinhorn - December 2, 2007 05:29 PM (GMT)
As per popular request the back and also most of the gold is done

Zaamel - December 2, 2007 10:39 PM (GMT)
What an amazing behemoth, that thing looks like it`l take down half of its own forces with the enemy, really amazing build though this is just me personallt disliking that its 2 Baneblade turrets on it. (dangit, now I want a Baneblade)
Mr Zephy - December 3, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
Very, very cool.
The only thing I don't like about it is the searchlight that might bash into the lascannon turret.
esinhorn - December 5, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
Here is some more progress on thee red basecoat

schoolcormorant - December 6, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
Whats with the elastoplast in the first 2 pics? are you alrite?!
the red and gold is a surprisingly smart scheme, i like!

To cover up the seams.
To everyones Horror I cut and mesured everything by eye not one bit of planning.
I am surprised it turned out as well as it did.
I made a cast of the ad-mech skull in the back and using the cogs on the new basing kit made two really good ad-mech symbols under the headlights.
Galikoe588 - February 7, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
That is absolutely brilliant!!!!
Slowly giving me the confidence to bash up a baneblade for my vehicle conversion.
Quick question... Can the banblade have a bigger version of a lascannon instead of the turret.
