Title: Dave does stuff!!!
Description: My general project log

highmarshaldave - November 20, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
I now offer a custom vehicle conversion service. Please P.M. me or check here for further details.

Howdy ho chaps!!!

At the near violent insistence of KayvaanShrike I've "decided" to start up a log on this here fine forum, to display my works and projects as they unfold.

I shall warn those of a faint hearted disposition that this log is almost guaranteed to contain the following:
  • Plastic
  • Paint
  • Adhesive
  • Genius
  • Sarcasm
  • Banter
  • Crap photgraphy
Turn ye back all those who wish not witness the sights ahead. . .

Anywho, here is a tantalising look at my current project.

Lovely isn’t it? A cookie to the first fellow (with the exception of you, Gav) who hazards a guess as to the identity of this fine creation.

Dave out.

I am the Monkey King - November 20, 2007 11:14 PM (GMT)
Ooh! Ooh! I know! It's a ******* ****** . . . ++ Post deleted by order of the Imperial Inquisition++.

Serioulsy though, it'd probably be unfair for me to claim that cookie. Looking good though Dave.

3vilX - November 20, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
is it a megas XLR defiler? looks like a good start, i like the flames.

Weregerbil - November 20, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
Wooooooooooooo megus! Yeah do that I started a tay battle suit with that but got bored.

KayvaanShrike - November 20, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
Its a *****, or something! lol. Alas I do know what it is, since he showed me the other night lol

Oh, Dave, I never got that disk from you, and Ruadhairh (can never spell your damn Highlander name!) I didn't get my textbooks back...

I am the Monkey King - November 20, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
For a start it's Ruaraidh. Secondly that's because you Gav are a fool of the highest magnitude. Thirdly you also forgot to take the company master model you wanted to paint.

And how drunk did you get that you can't even remember what it was, you alcy?

Also, Megas would have a car.

KayvaanShrike - November 20, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
Jeez, I know I did! And I wasn't drunk, just tired. I will pop over at somepoint and get them!

highmarshaldave - November 21, 2007 10:35 AM (GMT)
Oh I'm sure you will. And I presume you'll be trying to "liberate" more beer as well then? How does thursday night sound sah?

Dave out.

KayvaanShrike - November 21, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
I bought my own beer and you know it! Umm, I has a test early on Friday morning, alas. But we are going out on Sunday night drinking with them damn Aussie wannabes aren't we?

Will put you pic up for you later okies?

Penguin of Death - November 21, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Looks like a smaller Wolfhound head made from bits.

Knight?

highmarshaldave - November 22, 2007 11:12 AM (GMT)
Pengui of Death, name your cookie of preference my man!

Indeed, it is a Knight. Additional piccies to follow, since i'm currently at my lady friend's house and so nowherer near a camera or my models.

Oh, and Gav? I just mean for general non-alcohol based banter. Foo'.

Dave out .

Stagger_Lee - November 22, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Awww, I wanted it to be a Megas too... Lame old knight... Pah...

Well, get some more done on it so we can see then! ;)

KayvaanShrike - November 22, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Because Daves laptop is knackered he gave me the pic to put up for him.

Here is his Knight Titan as is just now.

An awesome model -- truly, truly awesome!

Nothing other to say, really. It's an astounding piece of work, and looks better than most FW titans. :)

Woo! Nice to have Dave back, and with such an intriguing project too. Can't wait for more pics.

Khrangar - November 22, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
Looks great. The only thing I see wrong with it is that the ankles look a bit weak.

Also, on an off note, if this site is good for one thing, it's finding British slang.

Khrangar

highmarshaldave - November 23, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
Woot! C&C!

MutantMaggot: thank you for such kind words. I wonder if they'll offer me a job now. . .

Scrubout: nice to be back. And as for intiguing, you have not seen half of it yet sir!

Khrangar: yeah, they do a bit? They're the sentinel ankles, so that could explain that. Its a bit unfortunate that they're really the only ball and socket ankles GW makes. Ach well, life goes on.

Pics to follow soon chaps!

Close up on the legs from behind.

For those of a curious disposition, I intend to be using the Knight Paladin as a Leman Russ in standard 40K games. The missile launchers seen on the shoulders will function as heavy bolter sponsons. Also, the tubey gubbinz on the shoulders and back represent the Knight shield generators/projectors. This is because I will be using the same chasis for other (less armoured) varients of my own devising (Hydra, Basilisk etc) so needed a reason for the Paladin to be more armoured than the others without adding masses of armour. Hope that makes sense. . .

Can't tell in those pics, but have you started painting the rest of it yet?

Its looking good mate. Weapons are cool. I haz a file that has Knight Paladin rules in it. They are the Bell of Lost Souls own Apoc datasheets for things like Knight Titans, Ordinatus platforms etc.

highmarshaldave - November 23, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Ru and I were looking at them last night. I favour the IG stand-in, lol.

And yeah, the whole thing is now teh bloo!!! Ready for fire, shiney and highlights!!!

Dave out.

highmarshaldave - November 27, 2007 12:03 PM (GMT)
Right. . . sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days. I appear to have spent most of the weekend drunk, at work, or both. However, I have all but completed the four arms (just need to do those pesky lenses: new brush time!) and will bung pixtures on before close of play tonight. As for the body. . . just wait and see, eh?

Thanks for your patience in this matter folks.

Dave out.

KayvaanShrike - November 27, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
I haz no patience, do it now, do it now, do it now, do it now, do it now!

:P

highmarshaldave - November 27, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
Erk! Updates!!!

3 arms are now fini, the Vanquisher is nearly done too. All it requires is the servitor to get washed and highlighted, and the battle cannon shells need a bit more metalicing. As for the body. . . see for yourselves.

So the body is still WIP. Need to do the yellow on the flames, the silver banding and general detail stuff. . . oh, and the lenses. Bloody lenes.

Command and Conquer as always welcomed.

Warning: Dave Is Restarting His Painting/Building Blog

People of The Ammobunker, I greet you as a long listed MIA comrade miraculously returning to his unit. I feel I owe the forum as a whole some explanations, apologies and free cookies. Over the past four months I have been notably absent from this great commune of painters, gamers, builders and general hangers on. There are reasons! I have not merely forsaken the Ammobunker in favour of Warseer or worse. Nae! I have my reasons, and I shall humbly lay them before you for your consideration.

1) Love - Yes, the biggy. The L word. About August last year I met a Girl. Now this Girl and I flitted about in the manner of sex starved adolescents for several months, having fun and such until one day. . . she told me she loved me. And I told her the same! The ensuing period has been a whirlywind of lovey things dominating much of my spare time and leaving little room for anything else! So that is reason 1.

2) Technology - Those few of you who read the initial, tentative, posts on this thread would have been aware of two things. Firstly, I had no functioning laptop at the time; and secondly, the camera on my phone is, frankly, a bit pish. Now, since then I have managed to attain disabled status (officially) and thusly have the uni granted me a nice new laptop. Also, I'm off to buy a digital camera today so that’s the images sorted. That was reason 2.

3) Distractions - I bought a xbox360. . . That covers it does it not? That was a very short reason 3.

4)Finances - Up until recently I was rather skint. The idiot financey folks weren't paying my bursary to me for being a student. But they have got their act together, and are now giving me lots of extra cash to spend on frivolous things. . . Like tanks! So now I can (or rather, have). That was reason 4.

5) Time - Finally, we come to the crux of it all. The true killer. Time. I'm resiting my year at uni, which means I should be putting in tremendous amounts of effort (and on the Dave scale, I am). This takes up lots of time in my life. Also, as mentioned before, I have a lady friend. She resides in Glasgow, I'm in Edinburgh. They're about 50 miles apart. Now that may not seem like much to most people (especially drivers and yanks) but little old me needs to use the (admittedly excellent) Citylink bus service to go see her. A journey which usually takes about an hour and a half. Additionally, I have a weekend job. All of which leaves me little time for my wee plastic men. However, a saviour has cometh! For as of 15.30 G.M.T. I am on holiday for four whole weeks!!! That was reason 5.

And so as I lay these reasons before you, I give you, the good people of The Ammobunker, a solemn promise. By midnight (Scotland time) on Sunday. . . There. Shall. Be. An. Update!

Thank you.

Dave out.

Yeah, I could have. . . but four months AWOL needs a little more than one line to justify it, lol.

And thanks schoolie, I feel more motivated already.

dean - March 14, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
erm... Sorry to bring this up but... Which Sunday? August 3rd?

No really. I took a 2 year hiatus to woo said strumpet (Mrs. dean) and it took that long for me to be lured back (I still blame Deadley....)

Congrats Mate...

no-use4a-name - March 14, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Nothing like young love. I've been there many times- shhhh, don't tell the wife. She swears she's the only one.

BTW, good excuses for the hiatus. Some are even were important than plastic soldiers- even the resin ones.

Quick off topic question: They give you UK folks some sort of stipend for being enrolled in college? What I wouldn't have given to have that luxury here in the states.

When I was at "uni", I worked in construction then went into law enforcement- I started out as a jailer for the fine State of New York, in NYC to be more exact.

------

Now get on with the painting. I need to see more Knight Titans. I've been thinking of adding two to a drop troop Inquisitorial IG army.

[off topic] Jeez No-use, being a jailer in NYC couldn't have been pleasant... [/off topic]

It had it's moments. Especially when I worked in the anti-gang task force. But, once I got my degree, I switched locations and started working as a teacher and a counselor. Then I made moves to become real police.

Right now, I'm taking a break and thinking about heading back to teaching. I like getting the weekends off and being done by 4pm the latest.

Sorry for derailing....I just like to talk about myself too much, I guess.

highmarshaldave - March 14, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
Ah yes! The banter hath begun!

Well, update of a sort. A buyed a camera! A FujiFilm FinePix A920. Its a 9 megapixel beast. But has no memory card. So I need one of those (or I can only take 4 shots at a time). And dean, I meant this Sunday (16th). . . yah nit-picky nit-picker!

Dave out.

no-use4a-name - March 14, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
9 mega pixels? Wow! Mine is 3.4 or sumfin odd like that. The wife's is 6. something- can't remember.

Your picts will be very detailed. More the better for me to loot aforementioned Knight Titan convo.
