Title: Necromunda/40k building

Mr Zephy - November 18, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
This started life as a 40k building, but it somehow became a chunk of a Necromundan hive.

Thoughts? Any advice on making card look more solid?

jasevx - November 18, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
PVA it! or use plasticard

Mr Zephy - November 18, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
I can't really be bothered to use plasticard for this, as this particular piece of scenery should be effectively free. But I'll use PVA.

If it turns out OK, I will be making some more...

I should have enough sprue...

wow. that's pretty cool. is it going to be sort of a shanty town building? or more of a ruined-type affair?

Mr Zephy - November 19, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
Well, basically it was originally going to be a burnt-out warehouse/pre-fab.

But now it's more like a piece of generic necromunda terrain, just dark dystopic girders and steel plates welded on for cover.

sounds good, can't wait to see it finished up!

This looks like an awesome idea Zephy. Consider it yanked.

Very cool. Kinda reminds me of the buildings in Fallout: Tactics.

PVA works great for card to plastic so you should be ok with that.

Mr Zephy - November 22, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
Ok, made my last few additions, and will spray as soon as i've added pva.

Easy E - November 23, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
Before spraying you may also want to brush over it with watered down PVA (I use about 2/3 water and 1/3 PVA mixed well) to prevent the card from warping from the spray.

Great use for old sprue.

So I'm assuming there's no 'just before I undercoat it' pics or are they not loading up?

freebooter - November 24, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
I really really like this.

It should look kinda decent, awaiting PVA pics to decide, and it will be quick and easy to produce.

Ooh, now I know what to do with my free night...

I haven't taken any such pics, no, still don't have any pva. I will take more pics when i've done more work though. :D

Looking like a good shanty town building, might have to try this myself, got tons of sprue and old boxes laying around, might be a cool thing for my WiP Cities of Death table.

Here's it again a little bit further on. With undercoat, a little drybrushing and an attempt at rust pools.

Mr Zephy - January 3, 2008 05:15 PM (GMT)
Ah, any tips on painting anything else on it?

jasevx - January 3, 2008 05:20 PM (GMT)
unsure what the finished product should look like to give you advice, way to much black tho! ;)

Mr Zephy - January 3, 2008 05:40 PM (GMT)
Hmm, yeah (It's the undercoat!)

But I was thinking of sheet metal, slightly rusty, not sure what oroginal colour they should be.

jasevx - January 3, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
Sheet metal, bolt gun metal, heavy drybrush!

scrubout - January 3, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
It needs some detail around the base I think...so you've got a couple options.

You could do the standard sand+pva mix, sprue rubble if you grind it up, or if you wanna keep the flat look you have so far I'd say break it up with a few straws (like piping) on the ground and walls and then find a way to make some rivets. Rivet the floor and some of the "sheet metal".

That's the only advice I have, otherwise, it's still an awesome idea!

Rubble, and Rivets!

I should be doing a few words with the pictures once i'm finished for Firebase, so kick me when I've not done anything and it's a month's time.
