Title: Building a Super Heavy on a Budget

jasevx - November 15, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Right, I'm not allowed to spend money on a Baneblade by Sal, so I thought, wonder if I could build one for the sum of ten pounds ($20)?

This is going to take some serious help from Ammo Bunker members, already Wookiehole (Buzz) has promised to sponsor me by supplying the track, the one thing I can't replicate easy!

If you have built a blaneblade or deriative of, and have any spare parts, they are very much needed! The finished article will be painted in AB colours and have the AB logo suped up across it!

Main things needed are:

Spare track link
Spare Wheel,
Side Armour

in fact virtually anything!

If I finish it with bits left over, I'll crack on with a Hellhammer and then a good old Titan killer, hopefully ending with an AB Heavy Detachment to play at WHW.

I've already aquired a rear hull section, and a hellhammer cannon, so the balls rolling!

Penguin of Death - November 15, 2007 01:56 PM (GMT)
You could try contacting this guy as he should have loads of spare bits

I recommedn carving the basic shape out of styrofoam. Then, plate it up with thin cereal card. For rivets, get a thimble and push pins, and push them into the hull through the plates and into the styro. This gives you a quick, easy, and cheap base to work with. Then, you can use bitz or GS for the details.

Check out this thread for more details:

Lord Commander Eidolon - November 24, 2007 11:14 AM (GMT)
well some may know im going to be copying col.gravis leviathan so jase everything i have left over you can have for you super heavies

Easy E - November 24, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
I also recommend you look into resin casting. That will allow you to make a lot of bling cheaply.

Lord Commander Eidolon - December 3, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
started on the leviathan jase, so it should all the parts i wont be using(which is basically everything apart from the bottom of the hull, half a turret mount, 1 battle cannon the last cannons and heavy bolter turrets and one back end) its everything i got in 2 baneblade boxes

darkseer - December 4, 2007 07:43 AM (GMT)
Jase, if you're such a penniless peasant, do you want to paint my Everblight for me? I'm a busy man y'know.

Obviously I can pay CA$H!

PM me ;)

jasevx - December 7, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
Its not about the money, its the bloody time, plus my ban on having a Super Heavy might be due to Santas sack?

Update, I've swapped with Lord Eildon, so I have two thirds of a baneblade now. This might end up with two turrets after seeing Eisenhorns amazing piece!

Lord Commander Eidolon - December 8, 2007 01:27 PM (GMT)
well jase. yes it pretty much is 2 thirds, im going to be sending the parts out to you on monday, along with the sentinel parts and demolisher parts i was supposed to have sent you before my life went on a downward spiral, also going to throw in some FW baneblade stowage i got and am not going to use

oh not to be knit picky but its EIDOLON not eildon :P

jasevx - December 8, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
oops, i should spell check before sending! Thanks mate.

i need to get the ammo bunker stencils for this baby, seeing its going to be the centrepiece of the AC at WHW, best form of advertising!

there's no WWW...

I think that kind of advertisng would look best scrawled along the barrel, although spelling it emperor would probably be a better idea. :P

MutantMaggot - December 9, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
I love that idea ...

Make a tower of squats be holding up a banner with our banner on it ... :P Or just a banner. But the squats woould be best.

MM :)

jasevx - December 26, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Well I've changed the title, reason being, I've changed my mind on the design and the budget goes out the window!

Hopefully I'll have details soon, just waiting for my chrimbo pressie from Kev!

jasevx - January 6, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
Right, after hours of googling, this is the closest conversion I've found on an exact scale-up of the epic piece, I found this on a french website.

Obviously mine will be using the new baneblade kits not scratchbuilt, however it will be following the set-up closely

jasevx - January 12, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
Update:

With Kevs stuff arrived, spares ordered off Buzz and a Brand new Baneblade won on ebay for 38 quid, I'll be starting the Stormhammer as soon as my exams are over!

Lord Commander Eidolon - January 12, 2008 03:33 PM (GMT)
damn you jase for making me want to make one i cant be doing any more super heavies until the forgeworld shadowsword kit comes out

bram kuijpers - January 20, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
so i suppose this will be a super sized baneblade?
on a budget?
with loads of coolis jaseisch conversion work on it?

if it would be yes no yes i im realy realy happy :D

jasevx - January 21, 2008 10:18 AM (GMT)
You're right Bram! I'll give the total cost of this project at the end of it.

After clearing out what I actually have in bits, I reckon theres enough to make a Shadowsword as well, minus some bits, but we'll play that by ear.

Right some progress, taking alot longer than anticipated!

Internal extension, these extensions need alot of reinforcing with sprue.

user posted image

External extension, showing the size compared to the original Baneblade side.

The centre panel needs rivets, the lower on has the pieces of card as guidlines, I'll be Gs-ing the bottom runners over them.

bram kuijpers - January 21, 2008 10:23 AM (GMT)
hold on a sec your making a second super heavy tank also on a budget? thats just jasening it man.

about the plasticard between your tracks it looks realy good when done and painted i bett anyone could make out the difference.

Sheep - January 21, 2008 11:50 AM (GMT)

Tony88 - January 24, 2008 02:57 PM (GMT)
Too much patience man. I get pissed off just building a standard BB !

Nice work tho.

jasevx - January 24, 2008 05:18 PM (GMT)
It would get finished alot quicker, but I don't model or paint while Sals up, she gets very pissed off that she doesn't get time with me as it is.

KayvaanShrike - January 24, 2008 05:45 PM (GMT)
You mean you sacrifice bedtime with Sal to do your hobby and let us see how its coming on? Aww I feel priviledged now!

The Stormhammer is looking awesome Jase, good plasticard work there.

bram kuijpers - January 24, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
yeah this is so cool and its realy getting somewhere , good luck jase our need for a super heavy is in your hands B)

KayvaanShrike - April 24, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)

-scrubout

jasevx - April 28, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
You are so wrong scrubby! ;)

Right the issues of clearance:

user posted image

Lowest elevation (or depression!). fouling against the sight

user posted image

20 degrees elevation, clears it comfortably

user posted image

Max elevation, is it worth chopping the sight or leaving it as it is. In the real world Battleships can't fire over its other turrets for the same reasons, and its only on the lowest setting?

Penguin of Death - April 28, 2008 09:25 AM (GMT)
Personally I'd lose the sight, maybe put in on the side of the turret instead. Even if you can justify it people will keep pointing it out

Marovian - April 28, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
Personally Jase, I'd keep the sight. Reminds me of the top turrent on a Lancaster bomber where they had to put little bumps in the runners so the gunner didn't get over excited and blow the tail fins off!

Nice work though overall, looking pretty special I reckon.
