Title: Got a bit bored so...
Description: Re-doing all my old terrain

Hey dudes and dudettes,
Got fed up with painting today (ran out of blk spray too) so i decided that with apocalypse here and some mega battles on the horizon i should start making some battle field terrain to fight over. First port of call was city fight terrain as its the easiest to make (imo) and we (my gaming group) love fighting over cities so COD is played alot.
So ok now you know why i guess you need to know what. I jumped on the GW web site and borrowed their templates from the old city fight pdf's and found what looked to be a church like template so decided to start there, after several hours drawing up new templates and writing plans (first time in the 2yrs since i left high school that ive had a ruler in my hand...) this is what i have:

I havent made any floors yet as i want to base and spray it first so i can get to everything and then i'll put some levels in. Seeing as it's a church im thinking about spraying a huge aquila on the floor of the building and maybe making some ruined pews and stuff like that to place around it when done. Atm im also thinking that the door will have some sort of barricade across it or sandbags same goes for the gap down one side the corner with nothing on it will stay open though. I will also be adding window sills and some other bits a bobs to the out side of it to make it look a bit better than plain old card.
Also having never based any buildings or scenery (most of my stuff that i made yrs ago is free standing) how do i go about it? just PVA and water then sand with some rubble mixed in?
comments and crit. always welcome, hopefully this will be the first of many new buildings and terrain pieces for me.

You'll want a better base that just cardboard. Once the water from the paint/PVA gets to the paper, the whole thing will warp & generally look rather poor. Try to get your hands on some MDF - even the 1/8 inch board is very resistant to warping. Other base options include pink foam, multiple layers of floor tile or cork, and any sort of art board.

Once you have the base fixed, adding sand can be done with white glue. Or you can add the sand directly to the paint & apply it that way. Or you can start whiping up your own mix of sand, paint, glue and plaster.

Unless you get some of that plastic wrapping that you can put on exersise books, which might be a bit shiney but would be waterproof.
