hey guys im gonna build a defence laser platform for apocolypse i just have no idea how im gonna build it!

i was thinking about cities of death terain a forge world base piece and some home articels to make the thing in steps.

any thoughts?

Obviously the nice shiny HUUUUGGGE building that GW have built for apocalypse springs to mind as inspiration and shortly behind comes the plan for the bank job you would have to do to pay for it! Its got a number of sabre platforms on it!!! there's about 40 £ of those alone!!!
There was however another option which was in WD a few years back, (I'll see if I can track it down), a terrain piece built for a BFG and 40K battle between word bearers and black templars. In this, the objective was a planetary defence laser built into a cliff using necron monolith pieces to form the surrounding bunker housing the gun.

Now as I understand it the Turret on the new GW one is a hamster ball and I think that works well, is not horribly dear and is easy to get hold of. The challenge is going to be what goes under it, by its very nature it needs to be 'quite big'.
so
option 1-build it into a hill. minimum amount of COD pieces used though some form of generator building nearby would be good and could form a good objective.
option 2- a building, which in order to keep down costs, would need to be mostly foam board. The US GW site has info on the building of the ice planet battle scene in the apocalypse book http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/apo...in/hobby1/1.htm a variation on that theme could do the job.

Well theres a couple of ideas what do you think?

first of all im buying the 10 cod buildings set
and that will come in at aroun2 to 4 weeks from now.
and the big gun will be probably made from a tube and loads of bits
finaly i need to find them

Have you considered going for a bond baddy style underground silo, with the defence laser poking out? the only problem would be conveying a sense of depth to the silo.

do you mean like two hanger doors against the ground with a big missile poking with some trenches around it?

yeah basically the sort of thing they have for nukes, To me anyway Ive always thought of defence lasers as being mostly subterrainian, so theres less chance of incoming fire causing damage and it would also be less conspicous.
As an added bonus you can have teams of ninja abseiling in and battling it out with yellow boiler suit clad goons :ph43r:

ninjas ey? o well m,ight just give it a shot even though i have some tubes and pens that i could use as missiles and i could simply rack them up a firing platform and make a fortified base around it.

or just a wel camo bunker with a giant missile behind it

The main body is an upturned hexagonal flowerpot. Aradited to the base, pre treated with rough coat.

The Firing base is a swing-lid bin lid upturned.

The Lazer sphere is half a hamster ball

The lazer is the end of a lucazade bottle.

Lots of plumbing bits and COD towers, with FW weapons, Bobs your Uncle!
