Title: Reaver Titan WIP

lack0fbettername - September 20, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Im working on a reaver titan. Right now its just in the planning phases but it will move along once this megabattle is out of the way. Im working with a guy who lives here in town, it will be similar to how i built my warhound just a reaver. So far we are just playing around with cardboard making a mock up to make sure the tempaltes work and get the size right. It will eventualy be made fully in plasticard.

These are on warseer but Here some pics & stuff.

God! That's sweet!

Ross - September 21, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
Good gravy, look at the size of that F****R!!

Wild paintjob too, don't know where to look!

jasevx - September 21, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
Well I have his plans, so it will be copied at some point! :P

lack0fbettername - September 21, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
Thanks, there is a full log on warseer including a few other scratchbuilds.

WE WILL NOT BE PAINTING THE REAVER THE SAME STYLE.

This is mainly for my sainity. The Ice blue patterns i think look really cool but they are quite time consuming.

Ross - September 21, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah I had seen that on Warseer, it's one of those things that reaches out and slaps you when you bring it up. :)

Pickle - September 24, 2007 06:54 AM (GMT)
ooo SHINY!!
i wants one
can you send me the templates please if you have them yet or when there done?

how you get so good at cad on a side note?

UPDATE

So i finished my megabattle army painting a little early, so i put a little bit of work into the cardboard mockup titan. Basicly the eater already has 1 lower leg built, so i decided to go from there up. In no time (5 hours) i had finished the torso, waist & both upper legs. Then today while i was cleaning house i painted it a copper [colour] (because i had that can of spray paint and nothing to do with it) so here it is.

The "neck" may be a little bit too long, its still hard to tell at this point. We will have a much better idea once we get it's feet and carapace on.

Great stuff as always!

I'm gonna have to build a Warhound soon.

lack0fbettername - October 2, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)
Will have updated Pics tonight, i got the carapace on it.

jasevx - October 2, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
After this one, are you gona have a bash at a plasticard version?

lack0fbettername - October 3, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
Yeah Jasevx Thats at least the idea.

We are building what has been codenamed the "copper topper" with nothing but scrap cardboard, some scotch tape and hot glue. After we get it built we are going to compare its size to what we think it should look like and create a 2nd one out of plasticard and the likes.

Nether me or Orion (the guy helping me) have an armourcast titan or the epic reaver so we are completely working off of picture from the net & that people get us.

SO here is the update. First one showing the "ribs" to hold the carapace in place and the second 2 showing the painted carapace.

Also here is the old epic add, so those of you who never seen one before know what we are aiming for.

Can I make a suggestion?

Now, this is only a suggestion, and I am not criticising your work or anything guys. In fact, I find that making a titan project (from Knight to Emperor class) is total sweetness and awesomeness. But.

Most of the images from the "titan" years, are from when Epic 40K was at is best, so it must have been, what? 1994? 1992? This fact, made the miniatures, that although were made with care, look a little bit... 90's stylish. To better understand what I mean, take a look at the Epic Warhound and the FW Warhound titan. Completly different. The Epic warhound seemed like a bee on Emu legs, with big guns and a pitbull-on-drugs head.

So, why don't you inovate the structure of the Titan? After all you will be the first to make that kind of titan. Or at least you have the freedom to make such inovations. You can also check the "Titan: God Machine" comics to get some ideas. I think you can find some Reaver titans in there.

So, don't get me wrong on this, again, I am not trying to judge you or your work. Just an idea.

The new edition Reaver Titan.

@WBRB

No worries about the critisizims, ive reached the point in my life where i dont take anything personaly.

As for your idea: youve raised a point that several others about town and on warseer had brought up.

We have had a number of people suggest we build our scratch build everything from the FW epic reaver, to the old epic reaver, to completely designing our own, to working off of the new FW 40k scale one.

In the end we decided to stick with the "retro" theme armourcast titan as close as possible. I think the look of it just kinda grew on us (maybe like a fungus).

I may in time make templates for the FW epic titan (which you have pictured here) but probabaly not a model.

When Black Roses Bloom - October 3, 2007 12:15 PM (GMT)
No no! That's the point! I am not criticizing! I am just suggesting! I mean, your work you guys do, is more than the quest for the holy hand grenade of Antioch! I mean, I can't even get to finish a squad of possessed chaos space marines, and you guys are building a scrach built Reaver and then you're gonna re-make it as a plasticard monstrocity! Man, my intention was not to criticize at all. Believe me.

jasevx - October 3, 2007 02:03 PM (GMT)
Stop panicking man, think you misread lackofs reply, he was thanking you for being honest, plonker!

lack0fbettername - October 3, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Jasevx hit the hammer on the nail with the head.

Or whaterver.. no worries man. All is well

lack0fbettername - October 4, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
Orion (the other guy im working with) took my upper legs and now we have it standing, hopefully by this time next week the mock up will be complete and we can start on the plasticard one.

I've got a Smoley's trig book of tables here and the AISC books from 4th thru 9th edition on my desk... But no slide rule...

lack0fbettername - October 5, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
I got all my calc, trig, engineering and basicly every other type of math book you can imagine, including the 9th edition steel book (which is of no help on this)

I also do have a slide rule somewhere. As well as a compass, Protractor, and few triangular scales.

However AutoCAD is the way to do on something like this.

Galikoe3 - October 9, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
looking sweet so far, I wont have the guts to start anything like that. Mainly cause I wont use any type of maths at all(not good at it). it would be all done by eye and end up looking stupid.

Random person - um what type of titan is that?
Galikoe3 - that be my bandy legged one armed hump back Titan!
Random person - oh.

Aventine - October 10, 2007 10:09 AM (GMT)
Well FW are probably coming up with some relatively soon (read: within 6 months or so) but in the meantime, here are some rules for your monstrosity that my gaming group has come up with for our Reavers...

Lord Commander Eidolon - October 15, 2007 01:02 PM (GMT)
thats quite impressive!

UPDATEDNESS

These are pics of the OTHER (yes there are now 2) or realisticaly 1.5 cardboard mockups of the reaver. This one looks much better then the copper colored one.

These pics are from a guy named orions (my coconspiritor) in this project. Feedback greatly appriciated.

Notice the pics contain a berzerker for scale.

MINOR UPDATED STUFF

Orion did some more work. (he has done all the cardboard work on the red/white prototype). Basicly its worked out i just e-mail him the templates of what i design and he builds it and post the pictures on photo bucket.

We should be meeting up ether tommorow or saterday to knock out a few weapons (including the powerfist) thats the one im most excited about.

Heres pics of work he did past few days.

What a marvelous eldar titan sculpt, it'll ... wait, you found that BRILLIANCE in a pumpkin fair? :P

I really like your titan -- how much has it cost in total to make it?

Amazing work,
MM :)

lack0fbettername - November 1, 2007 07:07 PM (GMT)
I would have to ask orion. He probably got all the cardboard from letover boxes from his work. Lots of places give carboard away for free (target/petmsart & other big stores like that do)

So cost wise your looking at ink & paper to print the plans off of the computer and the glue sticks for a hot glue gun. So i would have to say somewhere between zero & three dollars.

UPADTENSS (Of sorts)

Due to this project stalling out, ive decided to ago ahead & post the plans on the yahoo group BWC (as well as plans for my vampire). So go check Em Out.

Im also trying to hastle my friend to get back to work on the titan. So maybe will have update at some point (sometime)

bram kuijpers - December 21, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
