Title: BDJV's Anything goes project log

BDJV - October 8, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
I usually have more than one project going at a time, but currently I only have my Chaos Space Marine army going. The problem I seem to have if I focus on painting one thing only, I get bored and uninspired. I had a heck of a painting block for about three weeks, today I decided enough of that.

So this will be a log of my various side projects to keep me productive and painting.

Ive currently got the following armies to complete.

Warhammer Fantasy
Tomb Kings including 12 Chariots
multiple Chaos armies
Bretonians for my Pop
High and Dark Elves that date back as far back as the 80's
Another 2000 points worth of Dwarfs to add to my 2000 point painted army
2 battalion boxes of Ogre Kingdoms

Flames of War
German Panzer company winter themed
German Fallschirmjager(paratroopers)
D-day US Paratroopers
D-day British Paratroopers
Russian Tank company

Ancients
Early Imperial Romans 15mm
Assyrian empire 15mm and 28mm

So basically this log will contain anything my mood makes me paint.

Yes I can be a moody bastage!

Here is a WIP of an Irongut.

Woo! More Ogres appearing on here!

Nice work so far. The Chaos shields add a bit more interest than the usual parts.

BDJV - October 8, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks! I figured I'd make each Irongut have a pair of shields from a different WFB army. It'll make for great variety.

Catferret - October 8, 2007 11:22 PM (GMT)
I grabbed a few Marauder shields to add to my Ironguts. Just for a little variation. I'll get round to painting them in a few months...

Sweet work BDJV, brilliant painting as always (even you WIP kicks arse).

With that to do list it looks like you'll be here a bit longer still :) Excellent :)

BDJV - October 9, 2007 02:34 AM (GMT)
You can rest assured that I'll be around for the long haul Ross!

BDJV - October 9, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
I am really trying to figure out which army I want to work on first. Here are a couple TK offerings both WIP but table worthy.

A basic Skelly archer.

The Bone Giant, I love this miniature!

Nice WIP's there!

I've got a bit of a soft spot for the old TK's :)

Digits - October 10, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
Go for the Skellies! biased!

Great painting btw, especially the ogre.

BDJV - October 11, 2007 09:11 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments guys!

Here's a Chaos Sorcerer I painted. I'm gonna call him done for now; though I reserve the right to revisit him at a later date. :P

Hoo hoo baby, he's cool. I'd even go on a limb and say he's too cool for a GW model!! (you have converted the crap out of him haven't you!?!?)

He's menacing but needs something......... I know, a dirty big black winged demon on a leash!

Lorcryst - October 11, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
Nice models, really good painting ...

Just a question : that Chaos Sorcerer, I thinks its a special edition model from GW, but I'm not sure of that ... could you tell us what's under the paint ?

BDJV - October 11, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
He is a limited ed sorcerer and is all GW. I have not altered him in the slightest. He is so kool that I have 4 of him in blisters just in case.

Thanks for the comments!

Novogord - October 11, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I must say that there are three arms there. Or is that normal on those guy's? Lovely painting, can't say much more. But is that bone giant cast on a little tin base? Or is it just you basing that makes it that elevated?

Ross - October 11, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
Ah Ltd Ed. It's still a dude of a model :)

And I still think it needs a big black baatezu on a leash :D

BDJV - October 16, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
My mood hath changed again. :P

I'm finally building the German winter army for Flames of War that I've been dieing to build for three years. These models will be based on the LAH during the Kharkov battles in early 43.

I'm trying for that worn whitewash without the big rubbed off patches. I've been contemplating doing a little mud weathering to make it look like the spring thaw is starting.

Warning....

I am doing a historical Panzer force and will have the occasional German national flag used for air recognition. I am not glorifying what the Nazis did I am purely being historical.

Nice looking tanks, they came up very well. I'm still surprised you and some others have the cahoonah's to piant things white, I'm even more surprised you guys can get it to look so damn good :D

What scale is this FoW game?

(Side note, I don't think the flag's a problem, or any other form of re-creationalist modeling for that matter. There's alot of evil done by man that gets their own 'modeling theme' without people raising an eyebrow i.e. the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Brittish Coloinialist exterminating the native Tasmanians etc.)

White can be a pain to paint; it really comes down to practice and technique.

15mm so a little less than half of a 40K mini.

Yeah I know but I think it's best to give the disclaimer cause a lot of people have really thin skins.

Ross - October 16, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the write up in the "Other Games" section. Does this mean you'll be doing small farms and assorted 15mm scaled terrain?

(And yeah, without the disclaimer most would think you shave your head, wear big boots and run around kicking the crap out of minority groups etc  )

BDJV - October 16, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
LOL, no prob bud! Yes I'll be doing some 15mm terrain.

Here's a comparison shot for scale.

Indeed a very hard scale to make them look good, like you did BDJV. And could we get a pictuer of your painted dwarf army?

To do this you just sign up for the army, join an infantry company and wait for the next war/public distubance/thursday night out in town with mates!

WW2 minis are well painted, though the tank commander looks a bit out of scale compared with the panzer, on the otherhand he might be Andre the giant!

BDJV - October 17, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments.

I found out last night there is a FOW tourney that was gonna sneak by with out me knowing. So I've got to finish a few units for my Aufklarungs company. here is my semi finished assault gun platoon for my German reconnaissance company. These would be perfect for the battle of Kursk.

Novogord, I'll dig out my Dwarfs and see if I can get some pics this weekend.

Ross - October 18, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
Love those halftracks, they look great :)

Glad to hear there's a tourney for FoW, means you'll be hitting this stuff hard. Good for me 'cause I've got a sudden interest in this :)

PS how big's your dwarf army?

BDJV - March 9, 2008 06:53 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, I know it's been a while but I'm back to painting minis. Real life issues have kept my busy and away from the forums. I've still been dabbling with painting here and there.

So here's the first of many Updates in the near future.

The only GW game I’ve been playing or painting lately is LoTR, Here is a converted Aragorn mini I am working on.

the_great_gonzo - March 9, 2008 08:21 AM (GMT)
Panzer grenadiers look lovely! their camo is very realistic looking! I am very interested in 20mm ww2 again now....

Sheep - March 9, 2008 08:50 AM (GMT)
Wow, great work on the FOW stuff, and everything else. Why did you change the colour scheme though? The white looked really good. Or is it 2 different armies?

Bluesabre - March 9, 2008 10:26 AM (GMT)
Gah, and here I'm thinkin I'm the only one who's put FoW stuff on show... yours put mine to shame. Great work on them, they look terrific.

Look forward to seeing more of this stuff.

Ross - March 9, 2008 09:54 PM (GMT)
Welcome back BDJV sir, good to see your stuff on here again mate. The 'new' FoW stuff looks great, the tanks are sweet (some of my favorite shapes in those vehicles!!) and the infantry, especially being 20mm, look fantastic! I love the mixed uniforms (General Steiner's converted me to that way of thinking :D ), they really do add to the real world feel of the models.

Looking at your tanks cammo, do you air brush them? The blending looks to smooth to be by brush stroke.

Oh..... paint the eyes :D (joking ;) )

One last thing for the minute...... you've strung Aragorn's bow!! Just another reason why I love your work man :)

First off thanks to everyone for the comments!

The Tigers were hand camo'd a long time ago. I have recently spruced them up with some blending and weathering with my airbrush. All of the other camo vehicles are airbrushed camo, blending and weathering.

Eye's are you mad! :P These are 15mm miniatures.

Glad you like the attention to detail on Aragorn! Did you catch the ready arrow in his bow hand?

I did now

Eye's on a 15mm, that's even funnier than 20mm

BDJV - March 25, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
I've decided it's time to retire/update the RT/2nd ed minis in my Space wolf army with a brand new plastic goodness. Mind you I've had these new minis for years but just couldn't seem to retire my old army. I've now boxed up the army case and put it in the attic and vowed not to play Space Wolves until I have a new army painted.

I'm also digging into my Dwarf Throng getting everything finished (90 percent pewter and lead B) ).

Here is what is currently on my painting desk.

Ive decided I need to start with a Strong HQ for my SW's. So here is the mock up of my Wolflord.

His pose seems to flow in my eyes. I had thought about giving him an outstretched shooty right arm, but I'm not so sure I like that Idea. What do you think about the pose?

Here are my Dwarf Miners, they are table ready but far from finished. I needed them table ready for a tourney last weekend. I came in 9th out of a field of 25 about average for dwarfs.

Love your stuff :)

Wolf Lord looks good as he is, with an outstretched arm he'd look too off-balance. Wheres that head from? The Wolf Scout Sergeant?

Miners look really nice as well, got to pick some of the plastics up for myself sometime :)

KayvaanShrike - March 25, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
I think that pose is just right for him, as you say he has a nice flow to him, looks like hes charging, but not going to fall flat on his face! I love SWs, still got mine somewhere, though units have been liberated into other armies etc. Can't wait to see any new plastics they do for the SWs with the release of their codex.

The FOW stuff is cool as well. If not slightly comical in the scaling lol, huge guys compared to the vehicles.

BDJV - March 25, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments.

There are a lot of things I still need to do to him.

He needs the following:

Long Plaited hair coming down from both sides of his forehead.
Wolf tooth and runestone necklace.
A couple of more Wolf tails.
Either a wolf pelt loincloth or a collection of Wolf tails hanging from his belt or maybe a combination of both.
Possibly some wolfy icons on his Mk VI grieves.
Wolf head backpack.

Trust me he will have plenty more wolfy goodness when completed. I have been planning him for ages, I've even got 4 more of the wolf scout sergeants to steal heads from for other versions of him including TDA.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, KayvaanShrike you are right about the FOW stuff the scale creep is getting as bad as GW's.

Ross - March 25, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Hey, gotta agree with the majority here, the wolf lord's pose looks perfect, matches the head and the expression it wears.
He's going to look great once he's a bit more 'wolfed' up :)

You're almost finished miners, they're the old metals aren't they?

BDJV - March 25, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
Thanks Ross, I appreciate the comments.

QUOTE (Ross @ Mar 25 2008, 01:36 PM)

Yup, all of my dwarf infantry are metal! The only plastic I have in the dwarf army are their shields, bases and the wheels for the war machines.

Two extremely weighty miniature cases full of Dwarfs dating back as early as 1984!

I've got a regiment of 2nd ed Bugmans ranges coming up next.

Ross - March 26, 2008 06:48 AM (GMT)
And I thought my force of 35 SGII models was heavy...... hey, does that mean you've got the old ones (dwarfs) with the cloth hats and all that?
