Title: Scrapheap Challenge
Description: Ebay or just smashed rebuilds
jasevx - September 20, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
This one is Rictus's idea.
Got that model thats smashed to hell, or a dodgy ebay buy that just disintegrated (Remember mine!). Lets see the models that required Intensive care.
Captain Wolverine - September 20, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
So is this buy crap off ebay and make it look better kinda thing?
jasevx - September 20, 2007 08:17 PM (GMT)
or rebuilding that model left in the stripper to long! ;)
Captain Wolverine - September 20, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
The stripper mustn't be happy
KayvaanShrike - September 20, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
Can never be in a stripper for too long, oh wrong type of stripper? My bad.
So what do we do? Take a crap model and make it better?
Rictus - September 20, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
Well the original idea (before Jase ran off with it and put it up, git) was that wepick up the cheapest crappiest tank we could find off ebay or the piece of junk we have knocking around and save it. Re-built, replace, improve whatever. At the end we would have a before and after shot with a vote to declare the best salvage job.
I have also though it might be an idea to raise funds for the site, may not raise much but it might be a good way for us to get the kind of atmosphere we have in Dad's Army without the stress of a GD deadline and the final benefit of putting something into the new site.
KayvaanShrike - September 20, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Ahh! I see, good idea, I shall see what I can find, either that or hit the Ebay trail hard.
jasevx - September 20, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
everyone in for the ride then? be fun to put a limit on it, 5 quid (10 dollars)
sir.spamalot - September 21, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mine having a go! I fit could be an ork vehicle:p
not...I'll do a imperial! *surfs E-bay*
Ross - September 21, 2007 10:21 PM (GMT)

Digits - September 21, 2007 11:23 PM (GMT)

I think I'll try to repair my chaos lord who I never got time to finish the conversions on ...
scrubout - September 22, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
I was planning on junking a rather janky leman russ kit and using it for terrain, but maybe, just maybe I'll try this exercise in futility.

bullet_magnet - September 25, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
ah man i wish i would have taken a picture of this one tank i got from a friend cause it was crap. let's see it was a rhino that looked like it basically had plastic glue dumped on it. everything was fused into a twisted mass ah well next time.
Mordian Marauder - September 26, 2007 08:58 PM (GMT)
I want a piece of this. I'm dying to give something a new life. Hehehhehe. I'm thinking crap kiddy built tank needs a new loving home on the front line of Diahorrea XVI or something.
Weregerbil - September 26, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
Rictus - September 26, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Right, there seems to be quite a few people interested in the idea.
I will try and come up with some rules people will need to meet the challenge (we aren't talking heavy or many rules here).
Hopefully it will get off the ground soon though this is not meant to be such a strict and desperate as the Dad's Army project as we have no deadline to meet or GW rules to stick to in order to enter the model in GD.
I am expecting anoter boring day at work tomorrow so something should up tomorrow evening.
jasevx - September 28, 2007 08:19 AM (GMT)
I'll get the ball rolling, bought this as a batch of vehicles, brand new and he tried to give it battledamage WTF!
Plastic glue so won't come apart, absolutely wrecked.

Ross - September 28, 2007 10:08 AM (GMT)
Bah, there's nothing wrong with that predator, just paint it and stop whinging
Mordian Marauder - September 28, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
I love how the lascannon is hanging on by a thread. A very humorous model. However, I figured I'd disclose my plan for this thread:
My scrapheap challenger will be a crappy old rhino hull bought for around £2 married with a Leman Russ Demolisher cannon. I might 'beautify' it with forgeworld parts (I quite like that mine flayer accessory kit). As I have a french char 1.bis on order which will be Imperialized to a demolisher spec tank, I figured it'd be nice to see which would turn out nicer. Knowing my luck, the £2 Rhino probably will.
Rictus - September 28, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
Scrapheap Challenge.
The Rules...
Have you got a piece of junk ready for the bin or only good for spare parts? Well in here you will take that piece of junk and save it from the bin, resurrecting it as a piece of armoured might.
The rules are loose and simple (make your own jokes there).
1. The most important rule is the subject must be unusable in it's current state - be it broken, bits missing, warped...
2. The subject must be something with an AV - it can be a tank, skimmer, flyer, walker, super heavy whatever.
3. The subject can come from your bits box, be exchagned or bought (from ebay for example). If bought there is no limit in place for how much can be spent - afterall you may not of known it was shite when you originally bought it.
4. You can use anything to fix it, cannibalise other kits, use scale model kits, scratchbuild replacements etc.
5. This is a biggy....You MUST post up a picture in here of the subject in the state it is in before you start working on it.
6. Time - you have a month from the time you post your 'Before Picture' to complete the model. NB: There is no set start time as those taking part will only be able to begin when they get a suitable subject model.
7. At the end of the month the subject must be usuable in some form. This may mean it can join the ranks of your army, can be sold (for profit hopefully) or to form part of a terrain piece - as long as it can be used in someway it is a success.
Now, go find a piece of crap and start working....(should get on with finding something for myself now...)
Mordian Marauder - September 28, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES! WOOOOOOO-HOOOOO!
Sorry guys. Really quite excited about this one :D Just need the funds to scrape together some parts and then I will begin. Could anyone recommend any good paint strippers??
jasevx - September 28, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
depends what your stripping, if not resin, then dot4's your best

Hmmm add base, sand and paint and you have terrain. Add a hairdryer/heatgun and you have melta damaged terrain.
Nargred Uz Frothel the Grand - September 28, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
If your just turning old vehicles into terrain send them to me :P
With a bit of plasticard and bitz it is quite simple to rescue vehicles, or for abit more time, plasticard and rivets you can start and ork army!
Rictus - September 28, 2007 07:51 PM (GMT)
Right, better do my contribution. This want be a tank but it will have an AV. I happen to have an Earthshaker Cannon going spare. The base is a bit warped, the barrel not well put together and the railing is missing.

I am going to turn it into a gun emplacement. Will use the FW rules for the new Earthaker on a carriage rules (though obviously it won;t move). If I have time I'll get hodl of some Kreig crew to go with it.

Jase is a clever boy. This seems like a chance to make reactive armor...

charlie_c67 - September 29, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
Fraid I can't join this time guys, but if you're doing this on a monthly basis I'll try and join after my dissertation's done in February. Should have plenty of time then! If I can help other I will though.
Digits - September 29, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
I'm hanging back on this months challenge. If I start one, I won't get anything else done!!
If this is going to be run every month or so, then I'll jump in another time!
Good luck gentlemen. Let the riveting....begin!
When Black Roses Bloom - September 29, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
I think I have a 1/35 WWII US plane, that has the size and the bulk of a Thunderbolt. I used to try and build this one when I was a child, but it was way to big for my small hands to handdle. I'll have to dig it up and see what can be done. I'll have to rebuild the engine, the cockpit and straighten up a little the wings. I think it was an attack craft, but I can't really recall the type. First thing tomorrow morning will be to dig up the old model kits from the attic and see what can be done. I can recall a major problem with the landing gear, the two sides wouldn't fit together, the engine being a wreck trying to make it look very realistic, and painted with enamel AirFix colors. I'll have to check it out. Perhaps this would be an adition to the LatD army I'm trying to built. I remember having an Opel Blitz from WWII kits as well.
Zaamel - September 29, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
im in, as soon as i get my mem card reader il put up a shot (hope that means my time wont start untill then) itl be either a rhino or a predator, seeing how it looks today im not sure which way itl go
this poor tank has been built as a predator once, twice and then a crashed rhino in a diorama then i sold it to a friend who broke it and gave me the rhino back in the state its in today
scrubout - September 30, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
Likewise, got some ideas knocking about in my head but time constraints mean I can't start yet. At least I can find a use for one of my wonderful DKoK turrets, barbed wire, FW cadian chimera commander, and a clanky, constantly field-worked Leman Russ riddled with holes....
...this is gonna be fun!
If those who want to help me could please check out my Bitz Hunter thread, I'd be much obliged.

I'm in! Now all I have to do is find a craptacular tank from somewhere...
-:D
Brush Your Teeth - September 30, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)

Daemon-Forge - September 30, 2007 10:30 AM (GMT)
Right im in! just got to think what to make....
spikedog - September 30, 2007 11:04 AM (GMT)
Hey all,
Well I think I may join in on this one. Shame you didn't start it a month or so ago as I just finished turning this:

Into this:

That said I think I should be in for this project, I have a couple of other tanks lying around somewhere I was given so I will dig one out and have a think.
