Title: Top ten favorite anime and why
Dino - May 26, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
I was just thinking of some of my favorite anime and thought what other peoples favorites were and why they like them. They can be translated or dubbed and downladed. So here are mine.
1.One Piece
I like pirates, and things that make me laugh. One Piece has all of those. I also like the style as you don't have to know who's who by just their hair style.
2.Fullmetal Alchemist
The story line is very original and the animation is really good. I also like some of the funny stuff they put in their.
3.Fate/ Stay Night
One of the most original story lines i've seen. The action isn't half bad(needs a little more fighting) and it is pretty good.
4.Trigun
If you've seen it you'll know that it's so cool and just can't be descibed in words.
5.Cowboy Bebop
Older but still very good animation. The story line is very good as well. It also has my favorite breed of dog in their :D
6.Samurai7
Any body who has seen the black and white original knows that this is a good movie. This series is just as good if you don't mind the cyber punk theme and a little more detailed story line.
7.Witchblade
I'm kinda a fan of the witchblade stuff but I've never brought myself to buy the american comics(yet). This isn't a half bad series if you see it all the way through and has actually influenced the american comic.
8.Naruto
Yes I love that blonde ninja but the series does get even better and more mature as the story progresses.
9.Bleach
Not bad but I think the creature might have as solid a story as one would hope he would. But still not bad.
10.Dragonaut the resonance
Only saw a few of the episodes and I really like it. I can't wait until it comes to the states.

Well I haven't had much experience with anime at all after being scared off it by a psycho ex... She was obsessed with them, so after she stabbed me I tried to avoid anything that reminded me of her.
But then another really close friend of mine reintroduced me to it.
Of the Anime I've seen and liked I think I can give you a top 3...
1. Bleach. This is the only Anime I've watched from start to finish and this is what brought me away from avoiding anime. Great characters, enthralling story and some great fights :)
2. Witchhunter Robin. I watched a dozen episodes or so and loved every minute of it. It was an original story that was so interesting. Reminded me alot of a D&D campaign from a while back.
3. Full Metal Alchemist. I've only seen a few episodes but what I've seen it is amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on more.

10? I only really remember a few.
1) Ninja Scroll (it's a movie not a series)
2) Neon Genisis
3) well, that's about it really :D
Naruto wasn't a bad series but I've only seen a few seasons. There was a series with two samurai and a chick but I can't remember the name, it was brilliant.
EDIT: Spitited Away? That was about a little girl in a wierd spirit real wasn't it? I enjoyed that one, visually amazing!

Can really only think of a few off the top of my head, and in no particular order.
Akira
Spirited Away
Ghost in the Shell
Ninja Scroll
X (I THINK is the name... bunch of younger folk get recruited into a spirit war of sorts, and it ends up as an "everyone dies, no-one really wins" sort of movie)
Appleseed I've seen twice now and I'm still not sure if I like it or not :P
Sotek - May 27, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
hmm well id have to say
NeonGenisis Evangelion
Giant robots, blood, gore and probably the only anime ever made to get in trouble with the catholic church.
Cowboy Bebop
Good story, great animation, great dog and most of all good music.
Last exile
again good story, great animation and i just love how the "bad guy" dies at the end of the series.
Ghost in a shell: stand alone complex
once again Good story, great animation and robots.
Haruhi Suzumiya
i have never been so confused while watching an anime
and finaly most things by Hayao Miyazaki.

Oh Dino, I am disappointed.
Then again, I am a Kurosawa fan boy and Kikuchiyo was basically b*stardised for the anime audience. Ive got nowt against anime, but he was essentially a transplant of Alphonse but with more stupidity.
To see such an amazing film be gutted and chew up, and then watch people make the connection between that and a Kurosawa film is horrendous because Kurosawa was an amazing director, who did some amazing films.
Ooooo samurai7 - the only piece of media that makes me annoyed on a regular basis.
Anywho ill answer this later - I have to go seethe and stroke my Kurosawa collection.

I have to say that I have never watched anime for any length of time really. And what I have seen didn't do it for me, Its just all a little ridiculous for me, and reminds me way too much of Pokemon and Digimon, two things that should never have been released into the world.
If I was to try and watch it, where is a good place to start?
Asmodai Dark - May 27, 2008 12:38 PM (GMT)
Spirited Away - its amazingly good looking. Sure the storys a bit mental but the Ghibli stuffs pretty solid (and cheap..).
Then if thats not your thing, try Afro Samurai - now Im not really into anime/manga like that (I cant take cartoons seriously, hence why Porco Rosso still makes me chuckle like a fool) but Afro Samurai's something I could watch all day long - It has Samuel Jackson in it! Twice!
Porco Rosso's definately something you should try - its quite interesting how eventually you dont see him as a pig any more. Its more mature then some of the other Ghibli stuff without really trying to be.
Princess Monoonononoke on the other hand, is slightly better but tries too hard to get the meanings in so... hmm.
And dont bother with full metal alchemist - its the pokemon/digimon stuff but for a bit of an older market (no offence to anyone here that likes it, but I watched it on recommendations of people who like there anime - I should have just watched Afro Samurai)
Maelstrom - May 27, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
mmmm favourite anime, Now i havent watched much for a while well until recently but here we go in no particular order.
DragonBall Z: watched this when i was a younger had to get bk from skool in time to watch it  the fights kick [arse] although a lot of them do drag on. some of the best villians too such as Cell or Broly
Gundam Wing: used to be on after dragonball Z and like others have said is ace, cant go wrong with mechs and guns lol
Hellsing: vampires and a stupidly big sniper rifle lol, i love it
Ghost in the Shell: kick [arse] plain and simple
Devil May Cry: Steve introduced me to this and it is plain awesome very nicely drawn and with good fights
Appleseed: made by the same guy who made ghost in the shell Matsume Shirow i think his name is, i really like this one
Cowboy be bop:kind of reminds me of firefly in a way even tho it was around before firefly, its both jokey and serious which is good
ninja scroll: bad [arse] movie, ive seen a few episodes of the TV series but it aint that good
titan136 - May 27, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Another really good one that just popped into my head is called Saikano. It's about a girl who's a cyborg and the Defender of Japan, but at the same time trying to hide her identity and maintain a relationship with a boy.
As cheesy as it sounds, it's done in a completely serious manner, and concentrates a lot more on the emotional connection between the two rather than the mecha-style fighting.
Read or Die was amazing too. Both the movie and the tv series.
Daemon-Forge - May 27, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
ok,
1. vampire hunter D
why? great anime the story is ace, and it is done very well.

3. UROTSUKIDOJI
Why? its just bloody GREAT!
4. yu-gi-oh
Why, i need somthing to break up all the blood guts and gore!
I could go on but i be here for ages.

COwboy bebop is genius though, and, as noted above, got into it after watching Firefly and searched for more examples of SciFi and cowboy in the same setting (anyone else remmeber Galaxy Rangers?)
