Title: Sculpting Great Unclean One
Description: My first sculpt

marcineczek0 - May 22, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
Hi there
For my first topic at Ammobunker I will show you what I'm curently working on. One of my friends asked me to make him something similiar to the Great Unclean One from Forge World. I love that sculpt but I don't have skills to copy it. Since it was my first full sculpt I decided to make something easier and different... something that I've wanted to sculpt since I saw his nurgle army for the first time. I wanted big, fat, bloted guy with lots of pimples, boils and some guts sticking out... you know bread and butter of being a nurgle.

So here it is so far.

Brilliant sculpting, I'm going to move you over to Project logs, you've been in the hobby for 8 years!

marcineczek0 - May 22, 2008 11:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks for moving my post... I'll try to update as often as possible.

Ok back to my sculpt.
I've added 4 legs, some pimples and build a sword for him.

Thanks for all the comments.... lol just kidding. I know I'm new to this forum but hey ...I don't bite.

The sculpt is going on nice. I've added some more flesh to the legs and started on the arm. I had lots of fun sculpting all those poped boils and pimples. I've even menaged to make my mum sick with them. some more photos...

One more update befor I go to bed. The legs are done and I'm working on the arm. I've never sculpted muscles so It could look weird... but it's nurgle. so who cares.

Good night everyone and if enyone shows up maybe some ideas about the other arm...?

jasevx - May 23, 2008 08:04 AM (GMT)
You're screaming ahead with this, great alternative legs to the standard slug approach

brambleten - May 23, 2008 08:09 AM (GMT)
i dont know why but the first pic sort of reminds me of the marshmallow man from Ghost Busters.
for the other arm i would recommend either a large bag of nurglings or a scimitar dripping with some revolting substance. no reason other than it would look cool
brilliant work. and if anything goes wrong, its a mutation gifted by the chaos gods

Althanan - May 23, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
Looking great! Just one thing: I'm seeing a few fingerprints here and there, that's probably something you'll want to sort out before you paint it.

Merceus - May 23, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
yeah, another weapon of some kind for the other arm would be cool... or a victim ;)

love the Mojo legs lol

charlie_c67 - May 23, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
Are you gonna make the legs more gooey and less blade like?

Metal Fingered Villain - May 23, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
For a first sculpt this is coming along nicely. A couple things though, the shoulders are a little to narrow for how bitg his body is, the ribcage, if daemons have one, would puncture most of his organs. Also, with the arm raised up like that, his left shoulder would be at more of a drop, those are just small nit pickings however. The otherthing, I feel the head is a bit too human, Id scrap the nose and make his mouth a tad bigger, in the codex daemons, there is a good description of great unclean ones, usually quite smiley. For teeth, if you've got some greenstuff, roll out each sharp little tooth and place them somewhere to dry where you can easily detach them if they stick like a c.d case or something or other. Roll out a little sausage of greenstuff for his gums and, with some tweezers stick each little tooth in.
The legs are nice concept, I think there is a tad too much flesh on them now, try to add some muscle definition with greenstuff. Man, if dg.org was still around, this dude mr. nipples had a great tutorial on texturing skin that I think would add a great deal of flavour to this nice sculpt. Keep it roaring my friend, practice makes perfect, I do believe I've got a couple pics of my sculpted GUO in progress over in my log, who knows, it might give you some morbid, diseased inspiration. Keep up the pace.

Very nice, as said, its nice to see a different take on the GW/FW style of GUO, not really sure about the weapon though, given his fairly flabby build, having him swinging a weapon in the air looks a bit out of place (also seems kinda small given the aforementionned size of him), personally i'd like to see a scythe or plague censer style weapon, would look much more in character and holding the weapon at torso level would give the model a better sense of direction in my humblest opinion :).

marcineczek0 - May 23, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys for all the comments...

@Merceus - I will go with the victim idea... got some spare SM parts for the body. Plus Space marines are my friend nemesis so it fits.

@Metal Fingered Villain - Thanks for all your sugestions but it's a little too late to resculpt it all and my friend likes the human like head.
It's my first sculpt so I'm quite satisfied with it... but who knows maybe I will start one more time with all the knowledge of past mistakes.

Here's some photos of the (I thinkk ) final stage:

Oh and one more thing... I hope that I didn't offend any of you with my lousy english...

Can you guess where I'm from?

Hint: I now live in Chicago USA but if I was a plumber I would live in UK...

KayvaanShrike - May 23, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
I dunno, your from leaky tap?

The GUO is looking awesome, I like the victim.

Metal Fingered Villain - May 23, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
The space marine in his hand is dope.

Daemon-Forge - May 23, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
Now thats a GUO! nice one there mate. I like the idewa of the legs...

Merceus - May 23, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
very cool... though i think it would add to it if you sculpted some boils and warts and whatnot on the marine around where the fingers are... and maybe some veins/stuff bursting out of his chest?

marcineczek0 - May 25, 2008 05:06 AM (GMT)
I've started paainting this monster...at first I was going to make the skin human like with some rotting greens and yellow(?) but due to my lousy painting skils he came out looking like that slimy ghost form Ghost Busters. So I've did some work on the Space Marine. I'm realy satisied with him. It was the firs time I used wet palet and I have no idea why I haven't tried it befor. It's amazing how long can you paint with just little amount of paint. The color is rich and always the same and it doesn't dry out on me every time I need it. Let me know what you think of the SM but don't make me cry... I know it's not that great. I usually paint Orks which are much easier to paint.

Ok enought talking... here it is

jasevx - May 25, 2008 12:16 PM (GMT)
Quick question, you did sand down the fingerprints before painting?

marcineczek0 - May 25, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
quick answer yes I did....

marcineczek0 - May 26, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)

it looks a bit to clean, more blood on the intestents and more darkish infections on the flesh please, as if some greasy puke is drooling from his fat rolls

marcineczek0 - May 26, 2008 04:07 PM (GMT)
Ok I did some more work on the skin and boils. It looks much better now. It's so much fun to pait it... it makes me want to think that I could do something similiar in near future.

Oke here' some more photos... let me know

hah  didnt notice the hand ripping out of his stomach before :P nice ;)

though again, its just too clean... give it some washes, mostly green or brown, but throw in some purple or yellow here and there... ;)

precisely what I was about to suggest. It's very good so far, but washes and a dirtier lok would make it excellent. :)

Very nice sculpting and painting.

Ok I thinks I'm done with it... Thanks for all your coments. like you guys said It needed some washes. The skin looks a lot better.

I've painted the guts and slaped some fresh blod on it using water effect + mixed paint. and some yellowish puss done with the same technique.
