MutantMaggot's guide to painting zombies and skeletons.
First, assemble, base and undercoat your zombie. Mold line removal becomes optional: this is a horde, anmd nobody's going to notice the odd mold line.
Now, paint the flesh with kommando khaki.
Next give it a wash of un-diluted flesh wash, and red ink on any gaping guts or wounds.
Highlight the flesh with kommando khaki.
Paint the cloth and anything other than flesh on the model with a solid coat of whatever colour you want. You may base the model at this stage if you want, for swiftness.
Apply a diluted wash of black ink to every part of the model (very diluted) and your first zombie is complete. He won't be of GD standard, but it is very fast to paint, and very easy to create a vast horde this way. (I did so in two days)

MutantMaggot's guide to a themed undead army
Of course, the first stage is deciding on the theme. Usually simply an undead version of another race's warriors suffices, but you can go the full way and write out a lot of background.
Next, purchase the models. The new skeletons are invaluable, as they will fit with most present regiment sets perfectly. Try to have variation that fits with your army's theme. For example, an empire army could have zombie free company, skeletal state troops and wight greatswords, along with blood knights. However, try not to make it tactically implausible to play with it.
Now paint it. You can either choose a scheme befitting undead, but a weathered version of that army's colours is always more effective. Don't forget to stick to your theme, yet don't abandon the very principles of VC either: a horde.
And that is my very simple guide to creating a theme force ...

I love zombies. To paint. I'm not a necrophiliac ... honest!

zombies looking very nice there, and a good tutorial as well... though seems a bit time consuming if you want to do a 'horde'

Thanks. It's faster than it looks, TBH: a lot of it is inks and drybrushing.
