Title: I have a few questions..
Cooper - May 17, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
If someone can help with these questions, I would be most greatful. Thanks. :)
-What's the size of the base for the Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons team's?
-Tips on "Chaosifing" Imperial Guard?
-How would I go about writing fluff for a "custom" Renegade Guard army?
-Best website for cheap and good plasticard?
-That wire, that's seen in a lot of conversions, is that Guitar wire? Can that be brought at instrument shops?
-Where to get either Renegade or Cadian transfer's from (soldiers and also vehicle's)?
Thanks, :)

I believe the IG heavy weapon bases are 40mm round bases. And yes, I'm fairly sure you're talking about guitar strings. They'd be readily availible at any store that sells guitars. I'd suggest getting the cheapest you can find, and you'll probably want the upper-middle strings (G or D would be best) for use on infantry, while the thicker E or A strings would be best used for vehicle cables and such.
Hope that helps some!

IG Heavy Weapon bases are 64mm. Raised, the flat ones are 60mm.
Guitar strings, music store. There's a thread here about guitar wire which I will find for you in a moment.
Chaosifying Imperial Guard, look at Rictus' log, my first attempt at such (check my log) is based heavily on his work there.
www.modelshop.co.uk/ For plasticard.
For transfers, head to bitz hunter, most people will have some. Or order from GW.

as my esteemd colleuge .... feth it i cant spell so i wont try, lol as Loaylist said , and as iv gatherd.. yes its guitar string. as to chaosifyign guard.. just do whatever, remember its chaos and so can be anything at all, however i might suggest using the mutation sprues that come in the CSM squad boxes, or you might try some green stuff and make your own .. suitable changes lol, but ya use your immagination, it can be almost anything after all
The guard HW basses are very close to 40mm yes, however.. i have no clue about plasticard, sory mate. as to fluff, not to hard, jsut need to be able to tell a story realy lol as to the transfers, you get cadian sheets, and all cadian nothing else, when you buy the cadian plastic minis, which are the standerd guard fare today, and rengeade stuff comes with the choas baddies , hope this helped

No they're not. They are 64mm bases. Or 60mm for the flat disc ones.

and thats why you never ask me to measure anything lol, maybe i was measuring the wrong bases.... ah well lol
Ross - May 18, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
The 40mm would be the Hero base, you know the one in the middle between heavy weapon and infantry.
Lord Jacobus - May 18, 2008 01:27 AM (GMT)
that would explain it , thank you ross, as it happens im not going nuts, the bas i measured Was 40 mm lol

- Base size, as SC said.
- That would be relative to how much you want them down the path of damnation. Mine are based on the FW Vraks list so are only just starting down the path. Icons, chains, skulls etc. Give them a menacing look without the use of resorting to mutations etc. Check my log or Elotsips for how we did it.
- Start at the end and work backwards. Decide where they are now and then work out the story of how they got there, so you need to decide what stage of damnation they are and where in the universe they are. Then work back deciding on the direction of how they found themselves in this place. What decision was made at each step to take them further down the dark path they are on.
- I get all my styrene sheet (plasticard) and strip/rod/tube (plus plenty of other things) from 4DModelshop, the link SC gave you will take you to their front page, Though you can skip that and go straight to their online store
HERE. Alternatively there is always ebay.
- Guitar Wire is what I use, bought cheap off ebay (only pic I could find at short notice where I have used it):

- ebay or ask in Bitz Hunter on here. In fact i've got some I'm not using...

That would depend what you are doing with them.
For vehicle convertions I use .25, .5 and 1mm thick sheet. The thicker sheet is for the main structure, sides, top etc. While the thinner sheets are more detailing, hatches and so on.
For strip and rod again it varies. Try and get a range to begin with. You don't really know what size you will need to you actually have a specific need for a piece. I have rod ranging from .5 up to 2mm in diameter and many diffent sizes of strip. .5 is handy for aerials, .75 and 1mm for rivets, other sizes are handy for pipework etc.
Don't forget tubes as well. With a variety of sizes that fit into each other you can make barrels, exhausts and a host of other things.
