Sorrel Horse, stayed one night and drank it dry, superb beer, everything hand pumped, great staff.
The biggest secret Suffolk has:
Ramshot arms, the locals take down the signs to stop the tourists finding it:

Kids at the Anchor 2005

Now that looks quite the place for going for a nice, long walk. Looks like a very beautiful place.
Sal looks so happy...

She was chilled out! She says if you'd stayed awake long enough, you'd have seen it!

But I wouldn't touch you. Naughty naughty Sal!

Well, close to 2 hours of listening to her ranting and raving about nerd-bashing does make me sleepy... :P

I am finding this really weird that someone else I know from elsewhere in England knows the same small out of the way place that I do! I find things like this very strange.
Here are the only pics I have of the area, my Dad has way more so will dig them out, as they are better than mine.

Grandads grave at the Ramsholt Church

Some of the old coastal defences at Bawdsey.

Woodbridge (I think)

Ramsholt Arms, the river right by it, and my Dad taking pics lol
Shame we are selling our cottage there, as it will make it harder to just go down, as there will be the whole sorting a place to stay whereas before we could just go.
I will make the effort to get down one time as I do love the place, and would gladly move there to live, without a seconds hesitation.

I nearly did mate, when the RAF Bawdsey houses went on the market, I let my ex wife talk me out of it, now Sals fallen in love with the place we'd be off like a shot.
KayvaanShrike - May 13, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
yeah is there not a mental home at Bawdsey now or something, there is some sort of school there I think.
jasevx - May 13, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
Its the International school for English Studies. Basically hundreds of 16 year old Japanese and Korean girls swamping the place, not your cup of tea Gav! ;)

Tent at Rendlesham

Will at the River Orford Spit

Name the place!
KayvaanShrike - May 13, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
Hey I am single now! I can do what I want lol.
Go down there and get me some unsuspecting foreign birds.

Seconded... more so that people talk effectionately about it - I grew up there (Suffolk that is, not Raùsholt, though I know it as my family used to go to the Fête every August), lived there till the age of 25, it's the sort of place most people grow up wanting to leave.
Then move back to when they realise they don't want their kids growing up on a council estate in London! :P

Ahh... we Suffolk folk are warm, welcoming folk, and not the sort who go silent and stare whenever a stranger enters our pub... oh no...
Seriously, I grew up in the area of Woodbridge, which is the other side of the Deben - we all considered everyone from 'over th water' to be a bit on the 'funny side'...
I was going to say Thorpeness, but the houses in the back don't look right... care to offer any more clues?
jasevx - May 13, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
thorpness is bang on, give that man a cookie!
firestorm - May 13, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
Oh... :o It was the Swan and body of water to the left that gave it away... Funnily enough we're back down in Suffolk (or I should say up from SW France :) ) this weekend, think we'll pop to Aldeburgh for some Fish & Chips :D ;)

Hmmm. Yum. Well worth queueing up for three quarters of an hour with three hungry kids in tow B)
Anyhow, best ever.
Can't believe I have no pics of home on this computer. Crabbing in Bawdsey, Shingle Street, Aldeburgh...damn.
Dunwich

They don't let me out too often. Force me to watch Sponge Bob instead. Cruelty has a name.

Or forced labour with even more kids.

Need to take more pics of stuff other than little plastic men again...seriously.
Cheers

ahh suffolk, we've always viewed our southern "friends" strangely (i'm from kings lynn). it does have some nice places ie aldeburgh and orford ness but it does contain ipswich (twinned with beirut, basra and baghdad) and felixstowe (nice container port, i can see it now, working at midnight  )
it did have its annual redemption in the mildenhall airshow but now even thats been cancelled.
if you want to see some nice countryside then a quick trip down the A12 to Dedham and Flatford will get you to constable country.
