Title: Battlefield Wreck Competition
Description: Test your modelling skills!

Digits - May 13, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
This one came to me when I purchased the abandoned chimera courtesy of Forgeworld. Abandoned vehicles or destroyed wrecks are a very cool addition to any games table.

Here is the challenge.

To create a piece of scenery based on a battlefield wreck. The wreck can be simply that, or it can have been turned into a fortified defensible position, the choice is yours!

And not to be left out, our fantasy friends may enter a fallen war machine, a crashed chariot or wryven for example.

A great opportunity to convert those cheap e-bay "beyond help" purchases!!! :D

Enroll now!

(BTW - prize yet to be determined! I've had a few promises of prizes so I'll pick something suitable and post it soon as! ;) )

Deadline for completion - End of June!

You're asking me, the King of recycling wrecks, to leave one destroyed?

Digits - May 13, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
That will stump ya!

jasevx - May 13, 2008 02:06 PM (GMT)
Does my crashed Aquila count? ;)

Digits - May 13, 2008 02:08 PM (GMT)
So long as you actually do something with it! Hardly a conversion as it stands now, but model the insides, add a few wires and a cracking paint job, and yes, it would probably do! ;)

jasevx - May 13, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
Its a deal, tho I do have a Sherman somewhere I could IG up a little.....

Sotek - May 13, 2008 02:19 PM (GMT)
guess you can count me in

finnaly a chance to do something with that crashed Aquila, i already have ideas (maybe a trench there, razor wire there..) thanks for the idea jase i owe you one ;) :P

Penguin of Death - May 13, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
Go on then, add me to the list.

I could just pour poly cement into my vehicle bits and give it a shake

The Buzz - May 13, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
OK then, Im in !! - I was thinking of something similar for my games club, so why not

Cooper - May 13, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
Just over 6 weeks to complete? Awesome. I'll sure have paint then. You can count me in.

Digits - May 13, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
Excellent!! I may even enter this one myself!

MutantMaggot - May 13, 2008 06:06 PM (GMT)
Damned indecision. <_<

I'm tempted to create a crashed Nurgle chariot, both for this and my GD entry.

It'll need a lot of Nurglings, but yep ... I'm in ... ;)

Tepok - May 13, 2008 06:44 PM (GMT)
Right, I'll try to finish this one :P , count me in

The start of things to come! First dusting down of fine sand to grip everything else together.

Build up of the wreckage.

Deserter - May 13, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
I also have a crashed Aquila...

Count me in :)

loyalist42 - May 13, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
Dammit, I must be suffering an attack of masochism...

but as I've got a Russ I completely screwed the assembly on, count me in...though I may regret it...

dave38x - May 13, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
oh stuffit i might as well enter this, despite the heavy exam-ness that i face over the next 6 weeks.

Can we take an assembled model and "reverse engineer" it?

Digits - May 13, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Don't see why not. Just make sure we see a current status picture! ;)

freebooter - May 14, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
Right... Count me in.

I failed the last one thanks to uni but I will NOT let uni get in the way of my hobby again...

Here's an old rhino I dug out of my bits box, half a pack of greenstuff (more will be coming), a dozen bits of sprue and from somewhere I'll dig up something to do for concrete emplacements... A not quite so ad hoc roadblock me thinks.
user posted image
Will have a place in my upcoming Necromunda campaign and more eventual urban board... Shortly after I actually get a 40k army up and running :) What? Don't look at me like that... :(

++EDIT++
I just managed to dig out a 12'' square board kinda thingy which is a bit bigger than I intended but this allows me to get to work on a modular city. Hmm... I'm thinking an Imperial stronghold based around a destroyed Rhino...
Although I've also got a Land Raider sitting there... That could be used too. Hmm... Decisions to be made. I might just stick to the Rhino for this one though.

loyalist42 - May 14, 2008 04:15 AM (GMT)
Alright, plan is to chop up this Leman Russ and make it look all 'wrecky'...probably slap it on a base and sandbag it up a bit, too. Anyhoo, here's the victim:

I built the damn thing when I was younger and more stupid...didn't bother with tracks, farked up the original lascannon mount something awful, don't like the paint job...so I'm gonna wreck it and try again!

Count me in, I wanted to do this last time.

I'll try to complete this time...

SC (Epic failure).

Can we take an assembled model and "reverse engineer" it?

1) Find friendly farmer with a shotgun
2) Apply shotgun to entire model
3) Find friendly plumber with a blowtorch
4) Apply blowtorch sparingly to remains of model
5) Finished

You missed out option 3.5). "Learn Polish in order to communicate with said plumber".

My plan is to interrogate the bitz box with extreme prejudice, find a damaged tank and sink it into a base, mud all around it, Shell holes etc. i'm going to limit the damage to the vehicle though because otherwise I think it loses credibility.

You forgot pounding repeatedly with a claw hammer...

And SC hath entered the compo, so he beats everyone on the weathering front....

:D Thanks Dave! I love you too. :P

I might aswell tell you, that this vehicle wreck would be a dry run for a divisional armour scheme for my Guard army. Replete with the wearing, markings and everything. :)

I really want to try this, but I am going to be soo busy over the next few weeks (still got Uni and potentially starting a full time job) that it just wouldn't get done, so I will just watch as others enjoy themselves.

Asmodai Dark - May 14, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Ill have some of this!

Lets see how close I can post it to the deadline this time :P

Not even a wee teeny weeny little wreck?

Anyway, welcome aboard guys. Really looking forward to seeing some creative pieces!!!!

Edit: AD - got to warn you, I run my watch a few minutes fast!!! ;)

Quick question....

My plan is to do this as the start of my modular city... So the tile will have a destroyed rhino in it. But it'll only take up about a 5th of the tile... So even though it'll kinda be in the centre it won't fully be the focus. Is this ok or should I swap it out for a Landraider?

schoolcormorant - May 15, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Okay, here's my work started. It doesn't look like much but it's actually the main bulk of the base work done.

So long as the whole tile is finished, yes.

Why not concentrate on the rhino and put it on a smaller base - then after the comp eith stick the whole thing to the modular board, or just move the Rhino?

crassius47 - May 15, 2008 09:55 AM (GMT)
you can count me in (i'll try and make this one better than the half done one for the special force comp), at least i have a use for the wrecked leman russes and the battlefield ruins from the cadian battle force :)

Digits - May 15, 2008 10:04 AM (GMT)
Great! I look forward to seeing your work!

Cooper - May 15, 2008 10:23 AM (GMT)
I just have a question. I know its terrain but say if a land speeder crashed into a tree and become heavily damaged and the weapons stayed "operational" would they be allowed to fire? Just not allowed to move?
