Title: Open Bash - Zombies!

Deserter - May 6, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Just finally got round to uploading some of the photos of the game Asmodai Dark, Deamon Forge and I played. The idea was that the Squads had to set off a beacon in order to call down an Valkyrie for evac...

The teams had to set off one of the beacons and then head to the highest point in the town (the tallest building, in the middle of the board), to be evac-ed.

Due to the high amount of fear, rumours about cultists masquerading as loyalist Imperials and the like, it was every man for himself...

Set-up of Deamon-Forge's Imperial Guard Squad (my minis!)...

Set-up of AD's Inquisitorial Retinue...

First turn, the Dark Angel in DF's squad heads off to set off the beacon as the rest of his squad head for the walkway. The zombies prowling from the base of the central tower spot him and race to attack him.

AD's team seperates, the first heading off towards the beacon while his Inquisitor starts to head towards the evac-point. More zombies arrive, with many spotting the split teams and heading towards them...

The Dark Angel is attacked by a group of zombies, heroically standing his ground and killing two with the butt of his bolt pistol and swings of his chainsword...

Turn 2 and the Imperial Guard team get onto the walkway, taking potshots at the approaching zombies with some success.

The Marine heads over the walkway towards one of the beacons, outpacing the zombies...

AD's Squad is attacked by zombies, some members of the squad making it to the beacon on the other side but choosing not to call in the transport...sneaky beggars...the zombies move up to attack his combat servitor and his Stormtroopers. The combats are in the Inquisitors favour, although the Combat Servitor ends up as zombie food, returning to plague his former masters...

Back on the other side of the board, the DA is chased by a zombie who unfortunately misjudged the distance of his meal, failing to reach his armoured snack...

user posted image

By this point the board is infested with zombie gribblies...

Turn three and DF's Imperial Guard begin to take shots at the zombies approaching them.

The Dark Angel leaves the zombie eating his dust, keeping the mission in mind and heading towards the beacon. The zombie trailing him is picked off by the squad and he attempts to turn on the beacon, sadly with no success!

AD's second team fire some shots at the zombies assailing them, whilst another lone Stormtrooper hoses down some with his flamethrower.

The unnamed Inquisitor on the other hand has a "this-is-Sparta!" moment, going mental and...

Booting the zombies out of his tower!

user posted image

The zombies attack DF's team crossing over the walkway, turning the manic priest into one of them!

Turn Four

user posted image

The bolter-wielding specialist swaps places with the flamethrower toting Guardsman, who promptly hoses down around 5 zombies who turn into flaming torches, divebombing off the walkway...

user posted image

The Dark Angel again attempts to call in the Transport and fails, although he turns around and shoots down two zombies attempting to run him down.

The Inquisitor sallies forth, powering over the walkway in an attempt to make it to the top of the tower...

And there we are! Cliffhanger ending! Until next time!

Sadly, this is where the game ended, as it was time to pack up and we got distracted for about an hour at the end collecting stuff we'd mail ordered and playing Go Fish! with various members of staff with regards to Forgeworld items...although we did have 2 earlier games, in which I soundly beat AD twice. Not that I'm one to boast or anything!

We'll be running some more "come along and take part" games at the next event if anyone fancies joining in! We'll actually have things fully sorted out for the next one, for folks to come along and pick up and play! Its quick, fun and relatively painless (theres a joke about SC in there somewhere, why buck the trend?) and its chilled out, we made up certain things as we were going along and ignored things like the psychology rules.

Right, comments? Questions? Anyone fancy playing next time? :)

YA!...Oh, crap.

Looks like you guys had a blast, shame about not finishing, I wanted to see the squads go at each other towards the end.

Nice, whose terrain was all that, Warhammer Worlds stuff?

Did look very good, but it was a bit of a shame you didn't manage to get the zombies fully painted, they're all done now though aren't they?

Daemon-Forge - May 6, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
That was such a good game, I have based 20 zombies ready for the next game  as we dont want to run out do we!

Also i am geting bits ready for my warband!

till next time!

This was a fun game to play I guess..makes me want to do some zombies out of my vampire counts ghoules now.
Nice terrain btw!

Cheers

Yeh, it was a real shame that the warbands didn't get to duke it out on the tower! My zombies were painted, but due to time restraints (as in, big-feck-off-dissertation) AD's were just assembled and based. The painted ones ended up representing the warband members that had been turned into zombies :) For the next open day I think that we'll be making sure everything is painted and we'll have a few sample warbands all ready for passers by to jump in and play.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Garry! Will we be seeing some painting? Heh :)

Asmodai Dark - May 7, 2008 02:41 PM (GMT)
Im going to stick my pictures up later today - got some filming to do (which is depressing as I really REALLY want to get painting right now). Suffice to say its lots of pictures of Inquisitor Baulbag looking heroic before getting mauled by zombies.

Media studies - its easy for awhile... then you realise how foolish you've been.

The next open day is going to be a mini tournie against each other I think - The game is so quick and WHW have that much terrain it'd be a shame not too. Each game lasts no more then an hour (and thats if your following all the rules. Pfft). That way those wanting to play 40k can without dropping everything.

Im also thinking of ways to make it easier to play. Im currently pondering unit cards - akin to what warmachine uses. This would mean if someone really wants to take a space marine then they can, we'd just have to swap the cards.

Then probably a massed game of zombies at the end now we have around 70 of the critters (and more on the cards...) as the more zombies there are on the board, the better the game seems to play. Bizarre.

Aside from the open day, there are things in motion of awesome coolness.... details to follow soon...

Gents, did you use normal 40K rules, combat patrol or kill team rules for this scenario. How did you approach the zombie rules, did you use slow, brainless or any other rules or did you just play them as unarmed normal humans ?
Thanks

Asmodai Dark - May 19, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
You can find the rules we used roughly here - http://z3.invisionfree.com/The_Ammobunker/...?showtopic=1928

We adapted them on the day to make the zombies fairly nippy and have more of them turning up. Its a really fun quick game using a bit of mordhiem and a bit of 40k. It feels a lot like 2nd edition 40k but without the sluggishness that goes with complex rules. Have a look on google for World In Arms :)

And when anyone got wounded we treated them as dead - lets face it, a zombie isnt going to last long against boltguns and if a normal guys gets knocked down... well.. a zombies gotta eat ;)

Dizbuster - May 19, 2008 10:26 PM (GMT)
Thank you I've downloaded World in Arms. I'll have a look through it soon. It look like a good game to introdue younger kids into the hobby.

Daemon-Forge - May 22, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
