Title: Woodland BDU
Description: Camo for my Guard

Ciaphas Cain - April 27, 2008 12:54 PM (GMT)
Hi there,
made a tester today for some cold war inspired woodland camo.
What do you guys think? Okay for 40k or rather not?
Your comments are appreciated.

Looks pretty good, so I don't see why not. Time consuming though I'll bet. And what's it look like from a distance?

Dude thats got to be one of the best camo scemes ive seen to date
also it matches the camo pattern thats on the pants im wearing RIGHT NOW!!

The cammo looks fantastic and is really well painted, must have taken you ages. the only downside I can see is that you might lose a lot of detail and definition on the tabletop as the cammo does exactly what it is suppose to - camouflages! :D

Going to be a bit a a job highlighting the edges with the color scheme you have as it so realistic  . That being said it is without a doubt one of the best schemes I have seen. Maybe do you basic color then highlight the edges and then do the pattern on top an try not to kill the highlights?

Whatever you decide I will be watching this thread with interest. First class work fella B)

Looks good, I always like your camo schemes.

I would echo the early concern about how it looks from a distance and that some may get lost if you are fighting on woodland table - the camo might be just too good!

It's AWSOME!!!! As mentioned, probably the best camo sceme on here!! Please, please, please put a step by step tutorial in the Tutorial Forum because I want to have a go!!!

Wow...thanks a lot for all your kind words guys, I didn't expect so many replies on a Sunday afternoon. I'm delighted!!!
Painting this camo was actually not particularily difficult once I figured out the 'right' colours. Fortunately I found an old pair of US Army combat trousers in the attic, so I had an original 'template'. B)

And true, you would loose them on a well done woodland table..

Maybe I can do a tutorial next weekend since I'll be spending long hours in surgery this week again :(

Exceptionaly well done and captures the woodland pattern very well, Taking into account the comment someone made about how it will look at a distance, might I suggest increasing the surface area of the sand colour a little which should give it a slightly 'lighter' look which may work better at a distance.
Also the pouch colour- the US ALICE system was/is a light olive green (a cross between gretchin and knarloc green) that may also 'lighten' the figure up and provide a contrast which will draw ou the camo pattern a bit more.

As a concept though this is absolutely sound. Are you goin to vehicles in the US cam pattern of the era?

Rictus - April 27, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
Very, very nice.

Old Guards idea might be good, though either way it looks damn impressive.

Now all you need to do is get a squad knocked up so we can see the full effect...

Bluesabre - April 27, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Here's another suggestion for you to think on, try doing some hard edge highlighting with the 'sand' colour over the armour plates etc, that may make things stand out on the table a bit more, or it could ruin it completely

Ciaphas Cain - April 27, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
Indeed I was thinking the same as Old Guard..
I lightened up the 'ALICE' a little.
Another tester with propper squad markings as well:

All in all I'm quite happy with the result now and I think you will see a lot more of'em in the future ^_^

Old Guard - April 27, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
Yep Thats the Badger!! those are looking special. Now like I said armour, three tone NATO or four colour 1980's? or airborne big olive drab dropships (subtle hint 1.48 scale v22 osprey with the tilt props swapped out for A10 engines nudge nudge ;) ;)...SAAAAYYYYY no more!

I've been thinking about a Phantine airborne army for ages and so the dropships as describd in the Gaunt book has been a great appeal for some while

this is a very rough concept of what it would look like. It would need 40K'ing to give it the right feel

digits your a tut junkie. You will take my ghillie and camo it with this and you will LOSE YOUR MODELS...

heh can i suggest at the expence of realism that you drybrush a colour VERY lightly over the camo. It will make the model coolness, its what i do with my tau camo. It keeps the illusion but delineates the model more.

Have i said that that camo is xmexy?

bram kuijpers - May 16, 2008 07:17 AM (GMT)
those camo patterns look pretty damn sweet, keep going
