Title: Me,Myself and my Ultramarines

Severian - April 21, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
So I regularly read the forum and thought I'd share some of my Ultramarines with the rest of you. No golden Demon winners here but done to a decent standard that I feel comfortable putting on the table.

So enjoy (or don't) ;)

My dread named Akuma (I relly liked streetfighter ok?)

About time we saw some more Ultramarines on these forums! And not to mention in the lighter colours!

The weapon casing's look pretty nifty in blue I have to admit, not seen it done that way yet, what made you do it this way?

the_great_gonzo - April 22, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
I love the john woo esq assault marine firing his flamer onehanded! very badass!

That is a lot of dice from all those heavy bolters, you play against hoard armies alot???

Termies look very clean, I quite like all the latinies on them, I haven't tried that with mine, might have a go!

jasevx - April 22, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
Plenty still watching, strangely forums are lacking Smurfs recently, yours are very well done, keep them coming!

Sheep - April 23, 2008 07:47 AM (GMT)
Looking good mate, you should definatley have no qualms about putting them on the table, a great TT standard, and characterful painting and names.

Good work.

TheGrizz - Thanks fella. The weapon casings were done as such because I wanted somethong different (than black) for the heavy weapons and I was really not keen on the old scheme of red so I stayed with blue as it kept to the theme yet allowed for a bit of variation from the bolters to the heavy weapons.

Gonzo – It is quite sad but the heavy bolters don’t make it to my starting list as much these days. Use to play a guy who used to field a horde of Nids and got eaten regularly hence the heavy bolters. Plus I love the models – big [arse] machine gun firing explosive rounds, hey whats not to love?

+jasevx & sheep – thanks you gents, I believe I still have a few more shots to post. Watch this space. Actually you might want to scroll down a bit ...

thats a very nice ultramarines army, clean highlights and blends well together, though from a certain angle you've got a t-800 manning the vindicator.

whats up next for the smurfs?

Thanks for the kind comments and yes terminator look on the vindicator commander is intentional, gotta love those bionic looking buggers! It is always nice to get some feedback on ones' work, especially so when it is positive. I'm much obliged to all who took the time to do so.

I'm slowly working toward some more assault marines, a jumppack librarian and terminator chaplain and librarian and there is also an unpainted Landraider sitting on the shelf ... but ... I've got some nice Kasrkin that Digits sent me (nice man) that I'm slowly painting (emphasis on slowly) and I want to start a small IG force. As soon as I have got access to a camera I'll post some of them on my IG thread.

So will there be more smurfs? Yes!! Just not today or tomorrow ... maybe next month ... I think?

TheGrizz - April 24, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
Possible to get some more shots of just the Tyrannic War Veterans? Always been intrigued by them, probably more so nowadays since I go 'nids... ;)

bdo - April 24, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
next month? that is too late!

we need more smurfs, now!

those are some nice ultramarines you have there, the idea with the blue weapon casings is indeed a very interesting one - i like it :)

i really like the weathered look of your tanks - give us mooore :)

Brother-Captain De Angele - April 27, 2008 08:02 AM (GMT)
Nice ultramarines, good free hand, are you unusally obsess with anime by any chance? because most of your character are named after people from anime or people who make anime, either way these are nice clean marine except for the faces but faces are really difficult anyways GREAT STUFF.

Severian - April 27, 2008 12:54 PM (GMT)
TheGrizz - I'll see about some more shots of the vets just need to get my brother over to my house (he is a professional with the accompanying camera where as my own photographic skills are mediocre to say the least and I have only a cellphone camera.

Brother-Captain De Angele - Thanks. Yes I am an anime fan and some of the names were sourced from there other from science fiction and fantasy novels, but yes definitely an anime influence. Any tips on the faces are always welcome. The way I do them I over enhance the shadows which doesn't look all that good up close but on the table it gives definition to the face. The camera robs it of some of the depth. That being said I agree that a lot of improvement can be made :(

I got a few more photos that were taken of a few guys I finished about a month back.

Veteran Sergeant Onizuka (I've noticed the banner and will fix it)
