Title: Nearly new Nife!
Description: Slow and steady wins the race...?!

Nife - April 7, 2008 03:29 PM (GMT)
Erm yeah...

Well it's been a while since I actively browsed Ammobunker, in fact I might even have the privilege of being the longest lurker on here (having signed up when Ammobunker was in it's infancy and then disappearing very quickly after that) - I've popped in for a peek every now and then however.

In the intervening time I've not even really picked up a paint brush, but a couple of weeks ago i picked up my brushes and off I went. I've had a log on Warseer for a couple of weeks now but thought that it'd be nice to re-introduce myself over here and for those of you that might not see that log.

So without further ado here's what I've been upto these last few weeks:

My long suffering Terminator Chaplain - nearing completion

My Space Wolves are still ongoing too - a couple of recently painted Long Fang's also nearing completion

Hopefully I'm back for the duration, although I'm a fairly slothlike painter so updates may be slow in coming.

C&C always appreciated.

Cheers :)

Yay, more Puppies!

All looking great, any group shots of what you have so far?

BodhiTree - April 7, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
Brilliant work! :) The scraped paint off of the Long Fang's free hand is very clever and adds a sense of realism that I never really considered - of course paint would probably chip off from there moreso than other spots due to the wear and tear it would take.

I can't really criticize the painting, but I wonder if it's possible to make the photos less grainy, I feel they're kind of letting down the work you've done here.

still WIP tho...

Very nice shading and highlighting. Nice to see more "legends" finding their way here...

Very nice work, I particullarly like the chaplain, care to share how you did the skull on him, its very realistic :).

Good to have you back :D

Gorgeous yellow on the Wolves and the Chaplain looks fantastic.

Definitely like to see some group shots.

KayvaanShrike - April 8, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
That Chaplain is awesome, pure awesome, the smoothness of the bone on his helmet is really neat.

The Wolves are good as well, need to see more of them, me likes SWs me do!

The Antipope - April 11, 2008 12:13 PM (GMT)
Amazing work. Very clean, very very crisp! I'd like the skull recipe you have used on the chaplain! Also I'd like the Space Wolf Armour recipe!

Beautiful so now do some more!

Bertiboy - April 13, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
your chaplin is amazing O.O wanna see more of your stuff! XD very clean style you have

Nife - April 16, 2008 03:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys :)

First up the personables -

Penguin of Death & Keravin : I'll see what I can do about getting a decent group shot, although my camera really isn't up to much.

Bodhitree : I think that the photo grain is down to the comparative *naffness* of the camera and the lighting at my desk - even with a daylight bulb and a makeshift lightbox the pictures come out somewhat yellow-tint and need tweaking on the computer which always seems to enhance the grain quite nicely...

Dean : Nice Dark Angels Captain there (I've looked over you thread too - nice terminators). I don't know about actually being a 'legend' per-se but you know, it might just grow on me!Actually I'd quite like to revist mine and tweak his banner a bit with more details.

Dracomancer & The Antipope : The Chaplain's Skull:

Ok guys it's something along the lines of mixing codex grey in with graveyard earth then highlighting up through bleached bone to skull white. I may have used chaos black added to the base mix for the really deep bits but I really don't remember (I tinker lots when I'm painting single models so often forget the exact stages I use - sorry)

Schoolcormorant : Yup, the slow burner :)

Wolverine : I've not actually played a game for years now - and I'm totally out of the hobby loop on the Island - have we actually got a games club down here? (I know we used to but that was about 12 years ago!)

Hope that helps ya'll :)

Ok then, a few more pictures (I've been playing too much Assassins Creed - why did I ever stop playing it?! - to get that much done)

Landraider - those of you who followed my older thread back on Warseer have probably seen a few bits of this - I've toned down the main colour again as the spray I used was too light and am in the process of highlighting up:

Rhino - old-school retro! Yeah! I've got maybe 3 unmade new Rhinos but I bought this puppy just before the new model was released and I love it. It was previously painted Wolfy but has had a bit of a revamp to bring it into line with the new army - as with the landraider still WIP:

With the side skirts on the rhino, I have to say, I really like it!! Never been a fan of using the old model, but this looks damn cool! *surprised!*

scrubout - April 18, 2008 01:46 AM (GMT)
I agree with Digits, giving side skirts to that older Rhino makes it look like the hot stuff again.

Bertiboy - April 18, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
oooohh....haven't seen that version of the rhino in awhile. lookin good XD

Nife - May 14, 2008 10:49 AM (GMT)
Yup, I said this would be a slow burner! Nearly a month since the last update and proof that I cannot stick to any one project for very long I've decided to do some fantasy (yeah yeah 40k forum and all that!) Aside from some Lord of the Rings I've not painted a fantasy model in a fair few years.

I blame the missus myself - she saw the mail-order-only Chaos Sorceror and thought it was cool, and never one to disuade my good lady from ANY aspect of the hobby... The only proviso is that I paint him (how tough is that!)

Oh I couldn't resist Harry the Hammer or Archaon either...

The sorceror has a lot of large flat areas and wanting to make him a bit more unique I've modelled some faces into the cloak (with the intent of painting more,) the idea being that they represent the sorcerors unluckiest victims.

Still very much WIP with the hope of getting some paint on him at the weekend - C&C welcome, as are any thoughts and opinions on how you think I should paint him. Apologies for the photos.

Rest assured that the tanks and other sundries are not forgotten, and will be revisited shortly - thanks for all your comments so far.

jasevx - May 14, 2008 01:12 PM (GMT)
The cloak is looking really good, those subtle alterations makes it so unique

freebooter - May 15, 2008 12:27 AM (GMT)
Loving the Wolves. Your Blue is so crisp and awesome, contrasts really well with the yellow. Which is also awesome :P

Nife - May 18, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
I've actually done some painting!!

Jase - thanks, of course the first thing I did was paint him in almost exact GW colours! D'oh!! ;)

Freebooter - thanks, more to come soon!

hiveminion - May 18, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)
Wow, very very nice! I like the dark colours of the cloak combined with his pale face, it makes him look nice and scary. Great touch with the faces in the cloak too, reminds me of Lucius the Eternal's armour containing everyone who killed him.

Nife - May 29, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
Thanks :) Thats pretty much what I'm aiming at contrast wise - should hopefully make the face a really powerful focal point (if I'm lucky).

I'm pretty slow replying to comments as I promised myself not to update without pictures (which are very slow in coming,) - so apologies there. :)

Anyway he's another peek at the sorceror - what do you think? First attempt at NMM on the boot:

I really dig your painting style, its very crisp and clean. The cloak on the chaos sorcerer is nice, the purple is a good accent and helps bring some life to the dark colors. Good stuff.
