Title: Little Acorns
Description: 51st Bombardment Corps

the_great_gonzo - March 17, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
Hey guys!

Having got rid of all my Cadians, I have decides to paint more Imperial Guard (groan).

My plan is to buy this army in blocks and paint it up for next years RAF WA championships, though I will probably just buy loads to sit on a shelf and not get painted!

What I have so far -
user posted image

First squad after washing. Note coins for adding weight to the bases, like DKOK aren't costly enough!

user posted image

The only miss-cast, he has a big bubble on his leg (near the putties) and a huge block of resin inbetween his legs! Was a pain to file/cut out!

user posted image

Where I am now, just need to clean up the arms and pin them on, sand bases then prime for painting!

user posted image

Flaming goodness! The head on the paper clip is one of the PIGIRON heads Jase sent, they are better scalled with FW minis than plastic Cadians

What I have learned so far...

1, You have to pin resin as it slips more than plastic when glueing!

2, Take your time, resin is alot more fragile than plastic, go slow to avoid any messups!

I am still waiting for the other squd, BOO FW BOO! C&C welcome

Lord Commander Eidolon - March 17, 2008 01:01 PM (GMT)
try not to use the grey/brown scheme on these as everyone i know with dkok does, infact use tenacle pink and hawk turqoise, that would be a challenge to make look good, i dare you,

Sotek - March 17, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
Looking good so far
i'll keep an eye on this as it progresses

nice start to the army! do you have a list worked out yet?

bram kuijpers - March 17, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
nice work great gonzo, so how big is thios gonna get?

the_great_gonzo - March 17, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
OK, first the Q&A's:

@Lord Commander Eidolon: I am not that mad! Maybe Gen.Steiner of WARSEER is, but not me! I am going to have a go at painting them like the 19th Siege Artillery Regiment, from IA5. AALOK has a similar colour scheme on the 'other site' which I think I can emulate/enhance.

@Sotek: Don't keep your eye peeled for too long or it will fall out! I only have this first squad at the mo, I am waiting for the second squad and the platoon HQ from FW, BOO FW BOO! I want to try to limit myself to around £50 each month to get this done by next year, that way I am not swamped with resin to paint!

@Bram & Angel: I have formulated the following list, most likely one that will lose every game but Fluff Monkeys will love it! I have tried to limit the number of tanks in this army, but somehow I have managed to squeeze in 3, go figure :D ?!?

HQ
HQ with Senior Officer

Quartermaster (will double as a Commissar in games where I can't use the Krieg list!)

2 Commissars (split with the two Platoon HQ's)

2 Anti-tank Squad

2 Fire Support Squad (1 of each Autocannons/Heavy Stubbers)

Elites
Heavy Mortar Battery
Thudd Gun Battery
Grenadier Squad with heavy Flamer (I love the H/flamer!)

Troops
2 Platoons each of HQ and 2 squads

Fast Attack
5 Man Death Rider Squad
2 Hellhounds (one each of the FW variants)

Heavy Support
BOMBARD (I love this gun so much just now, the model is AWESOME!)
Medusa Siege Gun
Earthshaker Cannon

Works out to about 2800pts, I would love a super heavy or two, Titan.......but I have to feed my family each month too!

No picture tonight, I have assembled them all and added sand to the base, big wow! I need to fill the gaps tomorrow then spray them for painting! WHOOT!

dean - March 18, 2008 12:56 PM (GMT)
Erm... Gen.Steiner is here also as of sometime last month....

I am partial to the "French Blue" from WWI scheme that (I think) SC tried out.

bram kuijpers - March 18, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
nice list gonzo but i would lose the thudd guns and replace them with more heavy mortars (those babies are ace with infurnus shels B) )

freebooter - March 18, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Looking forward to seeing your work on these blokes.

Would it be blasphemy to use the Pigiron heads on Krieg?

the_great_gonzo - March 18, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
@Bram - Cheers, I want to get the thudd guns as they are cool models, maybe not the best tactically but I like them. That is what this army will be about!

@Freebooter - If you want to buy me a squad of DKOK I will gladly cut and shut them to have the PIGIRON heads, as it is my money I will not be doing anything too risky with the £3.58 (each inc P&P) guardsmen!

So tonight, I filled all the gaps with GS...no pics again, will undercoat tomorrow and start painting soon!

Really? Never used the mortar myself, but against squish guard and eldar, I have used the thuddguns to HORRIBLE effect! Plus it looks damn cool!

bram kuijpers - March 19, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
yeah it does look good, but the heavy mortars cost less have a bigger blast and it has all kinds off neat special ammo, like the infurnus shels making the enemy falling back 3 inches, the horde armies will get all cramped up and the even more death from the skys B)

then again 4 small blasts aint nothing ;)

so gonzo ... where is the painting?

I am going for an early "Op Barbarosa" scheme, so German Grey uniform... Yes boreing, been done before, but how many Krieg armies do you see around GW stores? Me? NONE. :)

I am proud of the bases most so far. Yes there isn't much to look at but I have spent 2 evenings on the bases so far (2 undercoats, 2 basecoats, wash, 2 drybrush highlights!), just the barbed wire to paint ( I will be painting all my metallics together!).

I had to stop as I was painting in the livingroom, on a crap chair and in bad light! Now I have sore eyes and a sore back!

Still no sign of my FW order BOO FW BOO, and I have another load to order next week (Tis PAYDAY!). On another sour note my xbox360 has the 3red lights of doom, I am not a happy bunny this easter!

CC welcome peeps!

schoolcormorant - March 23, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
Nice scheme, Barbarossa. =D

Keep it up Gonzo. =)

The DK are looking sweet mate :) as for the 360 Im on my second now  my warrenty had run out as well but I just took it back and let the Girl Friend kick off int he shop until the manger gave in to her ,but what made me laugh more is that int he same week microsoft extended all the warrentys because of the 3 lights of death ;)

when you turn on your 360, instead of the "glowing halo of green goodness" (the green ring of light that preceeds much joy of shooting people in the face with extreme and deadley force!) you get this

three flashing red lights, that mean it is Broken! And needs sent away for repair. Which will take 3-4 weeks. Just before I go to hospital for an operation. So no RSI on my sick leave then. BOO XBOX360 BOO! I hate you Microsoft, I have had a PS2 since they cameout (yep I was one of the sad 2000 that paid £500 for one the day they launched in UK) and my black brick is still churning away.

I have really enjoyed painting these minis, they are beautiful and an absolute joy to paint!

I have been using Vallejo paints and I find them to be better than the GW paints I have used. They don't clot up so quickly especially when under my painting lamp. They flow very easily and give a one coat finish equal to that of foundation paints. I love them. the finish is a flat matt as opposed to the silk effect you get with GW. Have I said I love them?

user posted image

My last Cadian sandwiched between my DKOK. I used simple layering to paint the Cadian 2 years ago, and I have applied simple wash and layering techniques to the DKOK to a much improved standard!

user posted image

My current painting/modelling backlog! The syringe is from a child medicine bottle (calpol), I am not a Scag head! I use it for dripping water when I make exact paint/water mixes! And that is a plastic brush protector next to it, not a needle! I only point this out as there are some right bravestar's here (eyes of the Hawk!), remember my face down baby shot from my other plog?
Not pictured are 30 marines (clipped in a box) and a couple of Leman russ (on a shelf!). I always like to have a look at what people have going on in the background as I am soo nosey!

C&C welcome

P.S. I am still waiting for my second squad and HQ squad from FW, BOO FW BOO, it has been well over a month now, get your skates on bitches! I want to buy more of your pure resin sex!

Mine is the same mate, i cued up to get my hands on my PS2 on the day they came out, best £500 i spent.

let your 360 R.I.P (till you get it fix'd :P )

also your models look ace there mate

Althanan - March 26, 2008 07:38 AM (GMT)
I honestly don't know what people are doing to their 360's... I've had mine since near the launch day, and it's been through 3 moves, two drops (one from atop my 5 foot high dresser...), probably thousands of hours of one or the other of my cats sleeping on it, and god knows what else, and it's still chugging away without a hitch...

Oh, and nice Krieg ;)

highmarshaldave - March 26, 2008 09:36 AM (GMT)
Ventilation is the key, apparently. And keeping them on their sid does them few favours either. Something do do with the curved design and heat getting trapped in the gap between console and desk. . .

Cool colour choice mate. Do more *poke*.

Dave out.

the_great_gonzo - April 1, 2008 10:29 AM (GMT)
Been quiet again, something to do with 64 units of alcohol over the weekend :D I am making up for the fact that over the next two weeks I won't be able to drink due to painkillers

Anyway quick update (am skiving from work due to no photobucket access in the office, BOO WORK BOO). I have finished off the helmets, gloves and trousers (Pants for you american types) and made a start on the mask and leather strapping... look see....Mask and straps are at one coat of paint only with the washes and highlights to follow, the grey highlights look very brutal with the camera flash but as usual they aren't so strong in real light!
user posted image

And to finish, some more of my DKOK arrived, but the bloody wrong HQ squad?!?

user posted image

After messing about FW have "solved" my problem with my newest order. I am still waiting for my 1st DKOK order to be finished, and some of my second order has been dispatched, 5 days after I ordered it, WTF?

Tony88 - April 1, 2008 10:41 AM (GMT)
Your scheme is very nice. Mask is a little plain but it'll look sweet wheny ou add an ink wash and highlight it anyways :)

Other than that i can't see anything major that needs fixing other than that guy doesn't seem to have a weapon!

Neth_Oni - April 1, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
truly love all Krieg models and you seem to get them really goodlooking :D
Especially those green coats look gret!

the_great_gonzo - April 9, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
Hey gents, been a few days as I've been to the butchers getting fixed up. i have finally had my ACL reconstructed after 4 years wait (Same injury as Michael Owen during the last world cup - I am a trend setter!).
I can't bend my knee at the moment so no painting I'm afraid

Knee from a wierd elevated angle

user posted image

My tasty "robocop" knee brace, I feel like a complete tool limping around with this!

What I have managed to complete so far...

user posted image

Still needs greenstuff in the gaps and a pipe made for the voxcaster as his is short?!?

user posted image

What I cleaned up tonight, Hellhound is a beautiful kit, with some minor miscast on the lower of the rear tank.

The medusa is another wonderfull kit, HOWEVER it has been let down by FW not sennding the correct wheels (5 inside and 3 outside wheels, idiots) so that is another thing I have to phone them for AGAIN!

On a brighter note;

1, My Xbox arrived back from repair, very quickly I might add. And with a free months XBOX live gold pass, Thanks microsoft!

2, Yet more of my FW order has been posted (2 squads and 2 command squads). Lets hope it arrives soon!

3, I have worked out what I need to break 2000points, so with what I have bought I only need another £252 worth of sexy FW miscast-waiting ages gear to reach this mile stone! Yay! I'd better go be nice to the wife.

QUESTION FOR YOU LOT!

I was wanting to paint my Krieg akin to the 19th Siege Regt from IA5, but I seem to have a nice grey/green scheme going on. What colour should I paint all the artillery/tanks?

I have some tanks in a dark green already, should I go this colour? Bear in mind I will expand this army further (I want a Titan later in the year that I will tye in with this army..).

Ideas on a post card to the usual address!

Sorry for the poor content, I will try harder!

Tony88 - April 9, 2008 11:50 PM (GMT)
Sorry to hear about the knee dude. Hope you feel better soon.

As for Krieg guns, probably an olive drab, with a faded look with chipping and rust .......for the artillery and such

the_great_gonzo - April 12, 2008 10:55 AM (GMT)
Cheers Tony88, I will probably adopt my previous scheme of green, but go back and heavily weather my tanks ( I still have a lemanruss company to paint, so they will all tie in together!)

Well I still can't sit in a comfortable position to paint (going to the toilet is also a chore!) so no more painting news, but some more stuff has arrived...

user posted image

I went out food shopping, but ended up coming back with a knife, blades, cutting mat and pin vice (for the SF comp!). When I got home the posite had been, with my second squad.

user posted image

Then yesterday I had to stop playing mariokart Wii when the postie arrived with 3rd squad and 2 command squads. All the bases have been loaded with coins, and all 4 squads are soaking as we speak (to be scrubbed soon).

I have one small problem with this lot, one command squad came with no arms/weapon for the melta gunner. It kind of takes the shine off of spending £100+ to have bits missing. Hopefully my 4th squad and thuddguns will arrive before the end of the month, then I can order the rest of the initial 200pts (I know, I was meant to buy in a squad, paint it then buy some more but hey, what can I do?).

Some progress on my leg, the brusing is finally coming out, I look chinese in parts now (yellow skin)!

God knows why my heel is purple?

Well thats it for today, sorry for lack of content, wifey is working today so I doubt I will achieve much today. I aim to have this lot all assembled, based and undercoated by friday, then hopefully start painting. Hopefully!

Edit: I'm not missing the arms from the melta gunner after all! No, it's the whole bloody meltagunner and arms that are missing, but FW did pack a spare brass flag pole, so I see that as a fair excahnge....NOT!

Mortare - April 12, 2008 12:35 PM (GMT)
Nice log, good to see someone else who is able to stick to their plans of buying a little at a time. D'oh! How long have you got on leave to push through this little lot? Sorry to hear you needed an op, I hate the idea of anything like that, but also have a partially torn ACL after a nite in the mess a few years ago, so may have to go the same way in the future. Can think of worse ways to recuperate than gaming and Krieg

Digits - April 17, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Right, where's the progress mate?

Let's see some of those grey tanks get done! Personally, I'd opt for a green and grey scheme. I think that would look cool with your DK.

Are you planning on using roughcoat or not?

What are the white bits on the tanks?

I'm looking forward to seeing the mortars finished too as I'm thinking of adding a few myself! I'm so in love with the thuddguns at the moment though, I may even add another three!!!

Oh, and how's your leg?

bram kuijpers - April 18, 2008 06:53 AM (GMT)
to bad about your leg mate, btw about your xbox360 its called a rrod (RED RING OF DEATH!) thats what most xbox360 owners get after a while, luckely microsoft will send you a new one making the xbox360 look like a one use the throw away product, at least you bought the black brick box machine

and about your krieg, they looking real good, especialy the green!

the_great_gonzo - April 18, 2008 09:53 AM (GMT)
Cheers for the comments guys!

@ Mortare - I have had 2 weeks off so far, back in work monday but still can't sit on a chair, lift stuff etc, but I can answer a phone?!? Might see about more time off as most of my work involves lifting carrying and the rest is desk bound.

@Digits - *deep breath* There isn't much progess. I am of limited mobility, and can't get in my painting cupboard so no brush action on the little guys. I have assembled and primed the hellhound, medusa and started to assemble all the rest of my infantry. Still waiting on a bit chunk of my order to arrive from FW though

I have managed to use my old painting table to get some stuff done, but it is uncomfortable to sit for long periods. Never the less I did manage to start dirtying up my baneblade, I'll do a tut on how I rust things as the stuff I have done so far makes me very happy inside!

Lemanruss tanks are down the list of things to do, the white bits are bandage with pva on them. On top of that there are small rectangles of kitchen roll smothered in pva, ala camonetting.

Leg is now getting there, had the staples out today, lot sof muscle wastage though, I'm gonna have to work hard in the gym soon!

@ Bram - Cheers about my green, it was supposed to be a light brown but I bought grey/green paint so to hell with it! It looks grovey and I am sticking with it!

Finally a question: Due to the unending wait for FW to cast and deliver DKOK, I am in two minds about buying more DKOK before my original order comes through.

I have £300 burning a hole in my wallet, and was thinking about buying a couple more baneblade (steel fury company) and a stormblade (soooooo coool!). I can get these and an army case to fit my krieg (and paints, glue, brushes, knife blades etxc) for the same price as the next batch of Krieg.

So which one? More wait-for-ages-and-it-is-wrong-DKOK or buy a couple or 3 super heavies to keep me ticking over while I get through the DKOK I have?

Super heavies would allow me to finish off big chunks of points quickly, and be a change from all the small fine detail of the grunts!

P.S. On a final note Mrs Gonzo is now working! She is such a good lady, she has whole heartedly endorsed me buying a Titan later in the year, and is keen to help fund my FW addiction. This was brought on in part by yours truly coming across her NEXT statement. Lets just say some small African countries could feed for a year with what Mrs Gonzo has spent in NEXT over the past 3 months. Watch your women closely guys!

jasevx - April 18, 2008 09:55 AM (GMT)
Luckily I don't have that issue, Sal is not girlie at all.

Now you've had the op, do you still walk sideways?
