Title: Cain's a little bit of everything
Description: ..but no eyes

Ciaphas Cain - March 14, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
Okay then,
time to introduce myself:

Aged 40, married with 3 children (8,6,4 yrs old, all girlies), slightly overweight, still smoking, and if you need a 3rd molar to be drilled out of your jawbone or a good old rootcanal treatment I'm the one you want to see.
Location: UK

And I admit not to be able to paint decent looking eyes. Tried and failed utterly. So instead of having some drugged junkie's eyes my minis are all blind. Like it or not.
I try to paint my minis to a good TT standard, nothing more, and I try not to spend more than 45-60mins each. I got family after all B) .

Cheers

CC

I've always liked your work CC.

Funny thing is, I never noticed that you avoided painting eyes. I was always too busy drooling over the camo.

As for the eyes, here's what I do.
-paint the area black
-paint one white dot in the corner of each eye.
-open a beer.
-then get nagged by the wife for drinking at 10am.

Most of that is true.

Make sure to leave a black rim- represents eyelashes...or, eye liner if it's Slaanesh.

Bah.... Having just tried last week to do a 3 color Space marine eye lens I totally understand. They look awesome anyway and I agree with no-use, very nice camo especially the choc chip.

Pig Iron heads or West Wind, my friend.

Nice looking DKoK. I have about 6 sitting in the paint strip- can't decide on a color scheme. The other 34 are looking at my bank statement threatening to tell the wife.

Ok, I love the Desert guard, a similar conversion to ones I'm working on at the moment, and lovely camo painting.

Vossie looks great and I like the CoD artwork paint scheme going on with the tau included, great work =)

Can we have some full army shots soon? Just so we (those who don't play against you) know how much of a nutter we are dealing with.

Digits - March 14, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
45 to 50 minutes per mini?!?!? Yeah right! I love your stuff mate!

You're not alone, I'm also 40 with kids, though I'm now 6 weeks without a cigarrette! The desert guard are great, any more pictures?

schoolcormorant - March 14, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)

You know you can use Kroot Mercs w/ IG. It maybe a great way to kill two birds with one stone?

Great figs BTW. Really clean looking.

DaCone2 - March 14, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
looking fantastic mate! can't wait to see some more.

Ciaphas Cain - March 14, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)

The green parts are Catachan Green highlighted with a Catachan/ Gretchin Green mix, the black parts are highlighted with Adeptus Battlegrey, then washed with watered down Chaos Black.
Hope I could help.

I actually wanted to give them Pulse Rifles but couldn't be bothered to convert more than one..

Some good looking stuff. Specially like the guard.

jasevx - March 15, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
Most realistic IG I've seen in a long time, the amount of detail is amazing. Be interesting doing a tie up for an apocalypse, with your IG onboard my chimera fleet.

Ciaphas Cain - March 16, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
@jasevx
hmm.. like the sound of it.

Here a couple of pics of SMs which never went into production since I couldn't make my mind up what chapter of these is my favourite one. Typical problem of mine
Please excuse the odd mould line, they're only concept minis...

Bolter and Chainsword is your friend..

Unfortunately I am too daft to do this selfmade decal business, never worked out okay for one or the other reason. So my 'transfers' are actually paper prints. Just need to find a better way to make it less obvious..hmm.

You might also be able to get some Blood Ravens transfers off ebay. At least one set of mine came from there. Look for Sanguine Crows as that's what one company put them out as. Yeah I agree on not wanting to freehand the whole army with those. I just do the symbol freehand on scrolls and characters.

titan136 - March 16, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
I'm definitely going to vote Iron Snakes. I'm trying a small army of them myself.

Keravin - March 16, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
Go Blood Ravens - we have two Iron Snakes already :)

Strelok - March 16, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
I vote blood ravens, not only do we have two iron snakes, but I really like the blood ravens scheme :D

Digits - March 16, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
Aye Blood Ravens!!!

Ciaphas Cain - March 16, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Okay, Blood Ravens it is then. Thanks for the help in the decision finding process. It will be a small force only (40k in 40mins). Iron Snakes will have to wait a little longer then.

Don't worry, at least after I will have finished reading 'Brothers of the Snake' (paperback- YAY) I surely will paint a squad...

nice work there, its all outstanding, you could'nt tell us the recipe for painting the cloth on the cadians could you? please :)

bram kuijpers - March 17, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
first off, youre a damn fine painter and pretty fast to, btw theres a little flash left on the legs wich is a shame cuase the paintjob is realy damn good

Ciaphas Cain - March 17, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
@bram kuijpers
Thanks mate. And thery are actually covered in mouldlines. The major downside of being quick..sigh.

@crassius47
Cause I can: Khemri Brown, Desert Yellow, Desert Yellow/ Bleached Bone mix as final highlight. Easy.
