Title: New IG transport
Description: Ogre on the march

Stevix - March 13, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
Hey, with all the talk of IG transports I started tinkering... and well here is what i built up:

Originally the plan was an 'IG landraider' of sorts; a transport bigger than a Rhino (20 cap.) with enhanced weaponry over a Chimera. (also something that could proxy as a leman russ however, in my case, an Annihilator).

Here are some sketches of the construction.: I am putting these last because they were done after the current level of work; I intend to figure out where the turret is going to go (most likely a razor-back like set of las cannons placed mid-left) also there might be side entry for troops

Nice start, got a similar project on the drawing board to transport Ogryns, so I'll be watching yours closely!

Thanks; here are some weapon options I mentioned. probably going to use the bigger ones because well, they have muzzles :) I am thinking of a hull mounted autocannon as well, possibly built like the turret on my other Chimera so it can proxy As a HB

Funny you mentioned the Ogryn thing; I was naming this the Ogre (as far as I know that name has not been used in 40k for a tank before)

Sorry, no pics atm, my already crummy crazyglue has been compromised; its gloopy and the resulting seams are not solid.
The top lascannons have been put together; its sortof the way they would go into a Landraider, with the top and bottom nibs clipped and based on a techie hatchplate.

The size is still putting me off; Its approximately the length of a Rhino, half an inch wider but as for my original idea of a 'IG Landraider' its not measuring up. I had plenty more tracks so I should have built it longer... this is just an afterthought however and I will go through as planned. In the future I might try the idea again at a larger scale.

Also I've measured the approximate passenger compartment to about: 2 1/4 by 2 1/2 inches; assuming you crammed them in would you guys think 20 IG could fit into this space? plenty of headroom so if they were standing perhaps? also let me know if these rules seem alright, otherwise I will likely just say its 12. (below I've gone halfway, though I cannot imagine which squad maximizes that number, command+squad?)

Rules:

FA / dedicated squad option wherever Chimera is an option

Ogre Transport
125 pts (80 if adjusted with likely new chimera costs )
13/12/11 BS3
Turret mounted TL HB (upgrade to TL lascannon for +20 pts)
Hull mounted HB (upgrade to autocannon +10)
can transport 15 troops or 8 Ogryns.
Can take vehicle options from Codex Imperial Guard

Update: here is the current build;
a comparison shot

The Lascannon platform without additional armour.
Id like to give it some spaced armour somehow; im worried its too tall so i may remove the bottom cables and make the whole thing shorter

I am going to make the passenger compartment open on this tank! might as well go all the way

The extra side plates are going on the inside to separate the cab and the engines. not quite sure how to fit in a hatch on the side (because unless i take out a wheel in the middle i cannot fit a decent side door) I will just use the recessed space to store kit..
there will also be some land-raider comm bitz used in the interior

btw any thoughts on the rules above?

oh like the gun for the top, it looks ace. from looking at the pictures befor this looked big now compaierd to a Chimera it dont look that big, but still good tho

That is looking totally wicked Stevix.

Maybe some spaced armour on the sides for the lascannons, but otherwise that looks really good.

Thanks for the comments!

Daemon-Forge; i know what you mean, as I mentioned its not as big as I wanted it conceptually. Its really just looking like a proxy razor-back at this point. Over a Chimera, counting pure passenger space the size is really larger only a cm in width and in length (so rather than 70x50x32. its 80x60x35)

I am fitting a razorback top panel up front, with the side with the teethed doors facing up.and sitting overtop the crew space. the turret will sit centered in the hole, though its base is a smaller radius then the breach size.
The back door will have a series of larger ones glued together to make a thicker door. Similiarily I am going to double or triple the doorway thickness

and the front... the front might need some extra attention to make sure its not lopsided and throws everything off. Once I have the entire passenger cab complete (with the front wall mid-tank for support, and a floor) I will start on that

Thats really coming on great, what other weaponry are you putting on it?

Daemon-Forge - March 17, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
I agree it looks ace,
it also looks alot bigger with the gun on it,

Stevix - March 17, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks; I was going with a hull-mounted autocannon, which ive already cut up. I just need to work on the righthand side at the front before it goes on.
I also might as well find a heavy bolter and magnetize the options, I am planning on alternating the top gun already.
Ive got a predator sponson mounted hb that will be an alternate for the top, then I will just need to find another HB to fit in the hull

after that its armour plating and detailing. Im not looking forward to rivets... I think I might try smoothing a 'string' of PC with a file, then cutting it into tiny nibs and use those.

Gen.Steiner - March 17, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
It's really good... but I'm not a fan of the remote-controlled weapons, it looks too AdMech or Marine to me. Perhaps construct a plasticard turret around it?

Of course, that's just me, and I do think it's a cracking model. :D

Stevix - March 17, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
Thanks Gen the problem with a real turret is that then I would require a full breech (is that what its called? cylinder entrance/crew comparment) inside, further decreasing passenger space.
Secondly my Guard regiment is pretty technical(rebreathers and autoguns for all!), and with the advent of some new STC as it is, it may as well be high-tech.
I do agree overall this tank might appear more SM than IG. I will have to rectify this with guard-esque vehicle detailing and bits on the outside.

update! some details!

Ive got one back hinge on the door; amazingly that is sturdy enough to hold the door on its own (though of course i should already have the other one on. The use of sprue means I can strategically leave certain square edges to hold the angle.

Penguin of Death - March 19, 2008 09:38 AM (GMT)
That's coming along nicely and the vision slit (is that a Chimera engine intake?) looks good.

You may want to move the photos so they aren't all on the same line though.

Looking good mate, was a bit dubious to start with, but you're really pulled it together.

Well done

bringerofdecay - March 19, 2008 01:02 PM (GMT)
i love the design, i like the situation of the stubber/autocannon/whatever it is, but i can't help disliking the lascannons, they just look terrbily out of place/oversized.

i actually think the first option on that list would look FAR better than the current one, it would make it more stocky/boxy (very fitting for IG)

Stevix - March 19, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the replies!
yep Im still iffy on the lascannons too; the first option is wonky for a few reasons, though I do agree it would be a better head start; for one all the delicate lascannon bits are facing outwards. secondly the armoured areas look off
what I was thinking is cutting some of the cables at he bottom off, then making the middle spacer some kind of plasticard box. then the lascannons will be the same orientation as now, but would sit lower to the tank, and more seperated. look at the forgeworld razorback kit. i might do something similiar to that, with the tank commander optics bit and its shield in the middle

bringerofdecay - March 19, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
i'd cut all thre cable off, and mount them bottom to bottom, similar to the top to top if you get my meaning

Stevix - March 19, 2008 10:56 PM (GMT)
Thought about that too; but didnt read your post untill i did the following!

and how its going on..

Notice the second pic has some approximation of the final steps; plasticard slabs (with some other gubbinz of course) to bulk it out, and ive shaved off the wheel rivet things from the chimera sides for use here.
Another idea i had was using the current walls as is, with some lines carved in and the wheel rivets, then create that pattern of additional armour spaced overtop

bringerofdecay - March 19, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
it's an improvement, but i't still looks a bit...off to me :/

Stevix - March 19, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
while it would be fun to hide somewhat... we are talking a tl Lascannon here :)
from that point it should have some bulk to it. I really do know what you mean.. something more sleak and along the lines of the Aliens APC turret would look damn cool too..

If i get some time maybe ill experiment with the smaller lascannons

anyone have thoughts/suggestions on the armour?

jasevx - March 20, 2008 09:27 AM (GMT)
space it off slightly, and loads of stowage!

Merceus - March 22, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
I like the turret (not trying to make bod look like a git or anything (cos he's not), its just me being weird :P lol)...

anyways, i really like it... may even have to steal the idea ;) cheers
