Title: AmmoBunker Terrain Competition!
Description: Win two boxes of Kasrkin!

Digits - September 30, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
OK, the rules are simple.

Everyone must show progress pictures in this thread.

The aim is to build a cool looking piece of industrial scenery incorporating a tankfarm and some form of power generation plant. The base must be at least 12" x 8". The piece must be suitable for gaming over. Limited use of plastic Cityfight kits is permissable, but the piece must incorporate at least three pieces of "common" household waste!

This competition will run for 2 months, there will be a ballot at the end of November to decide the winner.

Are you prepared to take up the challenge? (Oh! Did I say there was a prize? Well, yes there is! :o TWO full boxes of Cadian Karkin up for graps here! Come, be the first to sign up!

Me me me!

Is there a size limitation on the terrain size, I just know what Deadleys got unpainted, those Yorkshire folk are cheating buggars you know! :P

MutantMaggot - September 30, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
Aha. My polystyrene packaging finally comes into use. :D My plans are in motion ... those kasrkin will be MINE!

Digits - September 30, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
OK, to stop cheating, everyone must post initial picture with the days newspaper and the bits they're intending to use!!! lol

No upper size limit!

Brush Your Teeth - September 30, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
Right, ill try and rustle something up for this.

Ill get pics as soon as i've decided what i'll be using.

I'm in, I just got bits together on the weekend to build a generator station (WOOT head start :D ), might as well try and win something :)

Quick questions though, "suitable for gaming on" can that be for Necromunda/Skirmish? I can't see it workin any other way.

Oh, and can you clarify a "tank farm." I may be tired but all I can imagine is rows and rows of trees with baby tanks growing off them like buds and a sign out the front saying 'Price Orchids.'

Catferret - October 1, 2007 10:23 AM (GMT)
Hmm. Industrial scenery? And there was me planning some Necromunda terrain...

Gotta dig out some junk. I'm provisionally in.

scrubout - October 1, 2007 11:19 AM (GMT)
I'm in.

For example.....

Ross, a tank farm doesn't grow baby leman russ's! It contains more than one storage tank / vessel!

Necromunda is fine, I was meaning add a few overhead walkways / bunded areas etc for cover / interest.

Thats nice jase :P ,Count me in for this,Do we have to start from scratch on this project

Yes!

Catferret - October 1, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
Have found some card tubes, copper pipe connector thingies and corrugated card. No newspaper though. I don't read papers.

Here we go.
user posted image

The rest will be card and plastic and wire mesh. May buy some foamcard too.

MutantMaggot - October 1, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
CatFerret, I advise using polystyrene packaging as a base. Though it dissolves when exposed to glue or spraypaint, it provides an excellent base.

schoolcormorant - October 1, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
Seal it with pva, or better yet, woodglue.

Update on Sunday night, too-da-loo.

Dizbuster - October 2, 2007 05:10 PM (GMT)
I'm in.
It'll give me an excuse to use my Cities of Death set that i've never assembled.

Digits - October 2, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
Hope you intend to eat the spaghetti Ross! Welcome Diz, you're in "BAD" company here!

Should be a great competition guys and I'm glad it's making many of you address terrain you were only "thinking" of making!!

Looking forward to a hard fought, and entertaining challenge. How many of you I wonder will discover new skills and share tips with us?

It's not too late for anyone else to join in, but lookout, you're giving these guys a head start (not that Deadley needs it, he's probably finished already ;) )!!!

firestorm - October 2, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
Hey, I'm up for this! :D It fits in nicely with the Sci-fi/Urban/Industrial terrain I'm now starting on for our gaming room... B)

Just a question, you mention 'limited' use of CoD stuff is okay, what about stuff like Necromunda Bulkheads, or platformer/Hexagon terrain sets?

Cheers! :)

Digits - October 2, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
Again, use of this stuff is fine, but I'm looking for good use of household crap! We're examining the "green" side of our natures here! lol

Welcome aboard mate.

scrubout - October 2, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
Yes, please, let's try not to overdo use of pre-built plastic kits. I will be using some odds and ends off my own from aforementioned kits, but I'm going to do so sparingly! I'll be posting again later with an update on my work.

It's a pipe farm growing from a cave!

Couple things learned so far:
1) wire mesh rules
2) don't forget hot glue, it's underrated

Welcome aboard mate.

Oh, don't worry, I've got plenty of 'house-hold crap' hoarded ;) :P :D

And thank you, it's good to be aboard B)

Astador - October 5, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
Awesome stuff I want in! :D

Norsehawk - October 5, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
I've been meaning to build some terrain to be honest.

would my use of Hirst Arts bricks be considered unfair?

scrubout - October 5, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
I don't see why not, I've incorporated some pieces from other kits in my own terrain piece (once again update pics later tonight! I'm busy lately!) but it needs to stay in the theme of an industrial storage tank farm.

Just don't overdo the use of your Hirstarts stuff, just like I won't overdo the use of my platformer crap. The key is to find innovative uses for easily acquirable goodies that don't cost as much as model terrain kits.

Digits - October 5, 2007 09:58 AM (GMT)
Agreed! Welcome to the wonderful world of engineering and construction guys!

I'll add you both to the list. With twelve contestants, looks like we've going to have some stunning stuff here!

Hell! If I wasn't putting up the prize, I'd even be tempted to have a go myself!

Good luck boys, may the best womble win!

the_great_gonzo - October 5, 2007 01:33 PM (GMT)
So if I say yes, can do a power generator, or do I have to have a pump station? I was thinking elecy substation with a couple of pylons (possibly one standing and 2 demolished) something like this

[URL=http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/?
id=1358531&refnum=767686]sub station[/URL]

If so I say yes, oh can I use teletxt as date proof? I don't buy papers, I spend my money on beer and minis, get news from t'internet.

When is the cut off/finish date?

Digits - October 5, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
I'd say yes, so long as there is at least one storage tank on the board. Perhaps have the collapsed pylon on top of it!

Remember though, the competition will be judged by all members of AB, and if they think you've "stretched" the briefing, they may not be so forgiving!

Must be a minimum of three bits of obvious household waste though. All entries are to be complete by end of November.

Are you in?

Deserter - October 5, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Could I join in? :)

I've just joined up today, not sure if I missed the start date

Digits - October 5, 2007 07:26 PM (GMT)
Welcome Deserter and of course you can join in! May I ask where you have deserted from?

Deserter - October 5, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Somewhat Warseer...
I've just gotten back into the hobby, starting some PDF Deserters for Necromunda, hence the name, but my nick on Warseer is Red Scorpion. Haven't really ever been active there to be honest!

(I'll introduce myself in the appropriate section :))

the_great_gonzo - October 6, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
Yes I'm in, will be eating beans for a week to get suitable terrain material! Parp!

I don't really know why I annotated it, I decided to do it for my work area pics and then kept doing it :)

Need to add some fuel tank type thing to it. It'll be Necromunda/28mm Inquisitor terrain.

Looks good scrubout!

Is the piece of rock type thing from a fish/reptile tank?

Out of interest, where did you get that wire from?

scrubout - October 7, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
Ya, the rock formation is from an aquarium tank, cheap as chips if you know where to look. (got mine for 50¢ at the flea market!)

The wire mesh I acquired from a DIY store, about three feet. I've had it sitting around for a long time until now.

I plan on running GW razor wire across the top of it.

Galikoe3 - October 7, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
I too would like to take part in this competition.I will resist the urge and not use any cityfight terrain.

Digits - October 7, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
Welcome Galikoe3. I'll add you to the list of players!

Come on guys, still looking for your pictures of household junk! 15 contestants but only a couple of updates!
