Hi all, a few people have asked how I painted the Plasma Cells on some stuff I'm currently working on, so I figured I'd share the technique I learned with you all :

Examples of Plasma Gunners

Basically I was flicking through some old WD mags and found an article by Christian Byrne which showed how he made/painted some of his Iron Warriors army. In this was a picture of his Plasma Cannon armed Dreadnought, and how he did the cells for it. So, I borrowed the technique, and here's how it works:

1.)Basecoat Hawk Turquoise.

2.)Layer on a mix of Hawk Turquoise/Skull White in 1:4 ratio, in a way to let the other colour show through.

3.) A third layer is added, this time of 1:2 Turquoise/White, again letting the previous layers show through.

4.) A final Skull White highlight is added, before covering it over with Gloss Varnish to make it look glassy/transparent.

EDIT : Ah yes, one other thing. The one on the right of the shot had a blue ink wash painted in the recesses around the same time as the 3rd layer was applied (the 1:2 layer) and before the white highlight.
