Post your alien tanks here!
Gungnir - February 6, 2008 12:31 PM (GMT)
I think this is one of these, 'lets make a post that hopefully lots of other people post in, making it a popular thread and making me look cool because I'm the OP and I came up with such an awesome thread', threads..
if you're gonna start something to showcase peoples work.. try putting one of your own 'alien tanks' in there to kick start the thread. otherwise you've effectively started it with a single line post
or, if you're doing it to research alien tanks.. use the search function.
but, so I'm not completely trolling the thread, a seriously alien artillery piece:
WIP

Finished and sprayed.

still unpainted, I'll probably sell it at some point.
KayvaanShrike - February 6, 2008 01:16 PM (GMT)
Tonys last post has been deleted due to its insulting nature.
Gungir please refrain from trying to moderate the thread yourself, in future pass on a query about a thread to a mod, who will then deal with the matter.
The thread can stay open however.
Dracomancer - February 6, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
@Gungnir: Got any more pictures of nids you've converted, as I can honestly say that is the best carnifex conversion I have ever seen.
Gungnir - February 6, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
ah, I guess you've never seen the conversions done by Moloch, Mr Pink or Hydra on the Warpshadow.. their stuff outshines mine by far.
I'll see what I've got pictures of.. and send you a PM to avoid cluttering this thread with OT images. if anyone else wants pics.. just send me a PM.

WTF!! that is absolutely amazing! looks more realistically tyranid(if ever there was such a thing!
Merceus - February 10, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
aah, this brings back memories... "do fexes count as tanks" is always a fun debate :P
of course all i have in the way of tanks is chaos... though i do now have a trukk, though completely straight out of the box :P
hmm, and fexes, got some fexes too... oh alright then!

darkseer - February 10, 2008 12:01 PM (GMT)
That's it, I'm playing Nids for my next army!
Merceus - February 10, 2008 12:04 PM (GMT)
titan136 - February 10, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)

P.S. merceus, rending claws on a fex? whyyyyy?
brambleten - February 10, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)

about the same reason you put spore cysts on them, the damn spores always end up floating back into your own army :P (although.. I quite like spore cysts.. they're fun)
nice to see some more carnifexes about the place, personally I hate sniper fexes (one of the reasons I'm giving my 'nids a rest).. but Merceus and Titan have done an excellent job on them.
@merceus; I'm sure there'll be no refuting that a carnifex is sufficiently big, mean and devastating enough to count as a tank. we may not have a hull or armour value.. but we've got one hell of a mean statline to make up for that.
Asmodai Dark - February 11, 2008 07:51 AM (GMT)
I dont get why you've done that with the carnifex Gungnir. I mean, the claws make no sense because the gun is so long - it has no way of using them in combat, so they'd become either atrophied or elongated to anchor it while firing, and because the cannons fused to the body, its not like it can move it out of the way for firing.
Dont get me wrong, I see why you've done it, and it kinda looks cool but... the longer I look at it, the longer It just doesnt make sense.
Now if it had been on the lower set of arms, that'd be a different storry, but to do that you've probably have to resculpt the entire ribcage and it'd look more like a phalice then it already does...
Mighty Dwarf King Wolverine - February 11, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
To be fair AD ,Gungnir does say its a artillery peice so fighting in CC ain't it's roll, in a game, and the other claw on the other side seems to be embedded into the ground suggesting to me it si for achoridge more than combat.
Gungnir - February 11, 2008 09:13 AM (GMT)
wolverine is right on the mark there.. the second set of limbs are docking talons.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d44/kryp...ckingtalons.pngthe model was based on this image by robert cirillo:
http://album.warpshadow.com/d/25269-3/18316.jpgcourtesy of the warpshadow concept art gallery.
the first set of limbs, are fused directly into the weapon, ideal because of their proximity to the edge of the rib cage. That leaves the second set of limbs left to support the body and dampen recoil. I did have a nice set of massive fist/claw support arms like on the picture. but they were scraped for this more subtle version when the larger ones wouldn't fit well on the base.
Asmodai Dark - February 11, 2008 11:56 AM (GMT)
Oh I totally got that it was an artillary piece (I did read the thread and Im not an rtard) I just dont get it...
All tyranid guns are 'fused' to the tyranid that carries them iirc, its just the second set doesnt look right for the purpose your suggesting which is why I thought they must be close combat.
I mean, in the second pic you posted just of your hands you can see a back 'thumb' but the main problem here (apart from them being generally too thin both in claw and in the joints to do the job your suggesting) is there all going in one direction. Yes it could anchor itself, but the only way it could really do it is to lean forward in such an odd way it'd get no clearance for the gun and probably rip its fingers off in the process.
The sketch though works because he's in a firing mode with it all ready - theres no recoil being taken in it because thats all being channeled down the legs and anything that does go into the arms disipates quick as there acting like a tripod and appear to lock up (although you can probably see that).
Kudos Tony for starting this thread- theres some funky alien stuff here which you dont usually see around these parts and when I woke up this morning I didnt think I'd be discussing the finer points of bug anatomy :D
MutantMaggot - February 11, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
Why must I persuade myself not to start another army until the new chaos are released, and then I am tempted by such threads as this to start another? <_<
^^
That is to say: awesome nids (I love that conversion: it'll look amazing painted, very characterful), and you've tempted me to start a 6th army ... (Only four are going to be a reasonable size in the near future) :)
I have no tanks ... because apart from 'fexes, I heartily dislike tanks ...

Cheap ;) needed another weapon but also needed to keep him max 115pts... and rending claws fit the bill nicely :)
Arhalien - February 24, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
Well, they were painted quite a while ago but I thought I'd throw them up here anyway (usual excuses about the camera wiping out the red highlights still stand ;)):

Pretty poorly painted, but then i really dislike painting tanks ;)
edit: For pretty, read very; I hadn;t noticed how bad these things looked for a while....

For my first post, here's a closeup from a recent battle-report, showing off the lazy colour scheme for my Eldar :P

It was contesting an objective, while the Dread tried to (unsuccessfully) rip it from the sky in the last turn...
