Title: The darker smurfs with red hands!
Description: Crimson Fist Project Log
DanLee - January 17, 2008 03:07 PM (GMT)
Title's quite catchy , i think ...
Anyway this will be my project log on my crimson fist army that i started last month . I recently finshed my first squad of six marines , haven't got any pics here just yet but if you wish to see them Dacone2 has some pics on his log i believe .
I will start to work towards 500 pts first and have just started on my assault squad leader , again i'll try and get pics ASAP .this is what i've got do :
Another 6 Tactical Marines ,
5 Assault Marines ,
A Razorback with Forge World Turret,
And i'm debating on either a land speeder or 5 Scouts to make up numbers .
I think the land speeder would be more effective in a game but i do like the scout models . What do you guys think i should get next?
schoolcormorant - January 17, 2008 03:22 PM (GMT)
Well My knowledge of crimson fists is that there aren't many of them?....
Like they were nearly wiped out in a coach accident or something, i'd say lots of tanks, land speeders, scouts...
SC
hiveminion - January 17, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
I really liked your sergeant over in DaCone's log. I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your Fists!
Regarding the Speeder and the Scouts, I agree the LS might be more effective games-wise and adds some mobile firepower to your Marines. Then again the Scouts are fluffy and you said you liked the models.
Solution: get both. :P
DaCone2 - January 17, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
Marines don't wear seatbelts.
If you search for it on the t'internet there should be tons of fluff for them.
Here are the pics i have so far:
The Danny:

Imperial Guard:

Crimson Fist Combat Squad ( +1 )

Sargeant:

Danny, Right click on the pic you want to save, go to "Save picture as", then choose where you want to save it and the name. Then upload it to your photobucket so you can do whatever with it.
With photobucket you have to log in every now and then, just like e-mail.

Those fists really look awsome!! Whats next on the list to be painted?
AR
DanLee - January 17, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments guys ,
I like what i know about the crimson fists knowing that there is not many of them ( due to that unfortunate bus incident SC was saying about , i reckon freddie kruger was on there working for those damn greenskins !!) it means that i can make them more elitist as i imagine them to be . it also means i can kit them up with the best stuff . Do you guys see them this way ?
@ Dacone thanks for those pics and the info mate , NOW GET PAINTING ! :P
@Hiveminion I think I will definately get a Landspeeder (and probably put a pair of giant fists on the side !!) , i will also have the scouts too but i will give them all sniper rifles and 1 a missle launcher , it's how i think they would be equipped .I love the Stegospeeder you have :)
@SC Don't worry my marines will be assaulting Stagecoach to avenge their battlebrothers soon.
Anyways i'm hoping to finish the majority of my assault squad sargeant by the weekend .
see ya guys.
KayvaanShrike - January 17, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
Ironic how you are talking about assaulting Stagecoach, while in Fife where I am from they have stopped some services in some "less fortunate" areas due to their buses getting attacked by neds! No joke, folk were hurt by bricks and stuff!!
Anywho back on topic (bad mod, very bad mod!) The C-Fists are looking really good, just like ones that were in WD years ago in a Bat Rep against some Orks, they look very similar, which is good coz they were nice, though they were shiny, glad to see yours aren't. Good job.
Jester - January 17, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
nice to see you finaly found your way across here danny boy :)
your CF's look ace mate (im hoping there gonna die alot easyier than your mech tau :) )
good stuff mate tho maybe ask cone to see if he can get a better pic of the free hand fist army badge on sat cause i think itb really sets them off nicely :)
Digits - January 17, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
I like the guard too. Are you planning on basing them? If so with what?
DanLee - January 18, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Dacone takes pics of my models as i dont have a digital camera , thanks for those pics Dacone they really have been done well :)
I would also like to say any advice on painting would be great guys as i'm relatively inexpierenced compared to you guys .
@Kayvaanshrike I can catergorically denie none of my marines were in fife dressed in dark clothes and hoods :ph43r:
Thanks for the comments mate i had no idea they looked like the old fists ! I've only been doing this hobby for 3 years so i probably haven't seen them .
@Digits thanks for the comments on my gaurdsmen i wanted to do something different with those bases and so i decided i was going to do either snow or an urban theme . What do you think ?I also have a Leman russ , 1 sentinal , 5 ratlings , and a total of 20 gaurdsmen at the mo .
@ Jester Cheers mate I'm hoping to get a few pics from cone tomorrow if thats alright with cone . You'll find marines easier i think cuz they aren't as manouverable and i ain't used to them yet . Give you a chance to win :P Seriously tho our games are very close a bit of luck usually decides the outcome .
Angel Robertson - January 18, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
Only small bit of painting advice would be to try making theyes a bit more special, a quick highlight and the old white dot in the corner would really set them off! Possibly bring the plasma pistol weapon colour up a shade or two?
Looking forward to more piccies though!
AR
DaCone2 - January 18, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
I spend more time taking pics of other peoples models than i do my own :)
Advice? Never trust a dog with orange eyebrows!
i don't imagine them to be particularly elite, just low in strength and tailed to fight orks. I think you should have all units with preferred enemy as it would be really cool and fluffy and if you want you can have various bits from my ork stuff as trophies.
I know it would give me a disadvantage but it would be cool.
It was the Ork attack on Ryans world ( where the chapter is stationed i think? ) where they took massive casualties. Will tell you the warboss when i get the new codex.
Maybe i could convert a battlewagon into a stagecoach bus?
Freehand pic? Remind me saturday. Still reckon you should have used transfers
*grumble grumble*
bram kuijpers - January 18, 2008 10:19 PM (GMT)
what difficult about painting ork logos freehand?
big ugly skull, a blockie fist , RED , an axe?
the less bautifull it looks the more orkish it looks B)
DaCone2 - January 20, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
He meant Crimson Fist ones.
Took the photo's, should be up later or tomorrow maybe.
DanLee - January 20, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Here's some more pics of my marine squad and also of my trygon and shas el . I decided i would make this into a general log as i will at some point be going back to both armys and painting them to the standard of my more recent models . But for now i will continue doing my CF's as i'm enjoying painting them at the mo .
Didn't get my assault marine done cuz Cone didn't feel like painting yesterday ( Jester weren't there to bully him into it ). :P
@ AR cheers for the advice mate i have actually done that but i will try and make it more prominent in future :)
@Dacone2 in future they will have preferred enemy and i DEFINATELY think you should convert your trukk into a stagecoach bus ! :)
Anyways here's some pics , sorry 'bout the one pic of the free hand fist it was probably too zoomed in too much and don't look that good :(
DanLee - January 20, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
Um ... bit embarassing but i'm quite new to this so has anyone got any ideas on how to put the pics i want on here ?

Very quick update!
A very nice model: neat highlighting, and nice scriptures. :)
Only improvement would be to base it. :)

hiveminion - January 20, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Nice work! Are the shoulder pads freehanded?
The Battlesuit is pure awesome, the pose is so dynamic and the scheme rocks. The Trygon is..well...pure awesome too in fact. Again a very great choice of scheme. My only suggestion would be to highlight the teeth and claws up to bleached bone/skull white, but seeing as he isn't based yet maybe you were still planning to do this?
Great painting, keep it up!
DanLee - January 20, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
Thanks hiveminion i will no doubt do that to my trygon , that damn thing took me approx 3/4 months !!! I had to paint stuff in between so i don't kill my love for that model . At one stage I was thinking of buying some ravener models and have their upper torso's glued to the trygons base so they look like they're burrowing up out of the ground and get some green stuff to create craters for where they would be coming out of . don't know wether to do it though ?
The marine shoulder pad symbols are indeed freehand of which that is the first time i attempted to do this mainly because i got fed up of the transfers not setting flat, plus i thought it would be a way of improving my brush coordination .as i said the one pic isn't that good.
As for my crisis suit he's my fave , my mate Dacone2 recommended that pose to me, he's very good at that kind of stuff.I will be doing more of my tau at some point to try to paint them even better than before .Thinking of getting some forge world crisis suits too.
But for now i'm sticking to my CF's and trying to finish my assault marine for starters.
Angel Robertson - January 20, 2008 11:53 PM (GMT)
Those freehanded markings are fantastic very neat! And an interesting nid scheme, i really like it!
AR
Sheep - January 21, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
That trygon looks badass, well done :D
bram kuijpers - January 21, 2008 07:36 AM (GMT)
wow that tau is amazingly good and the trygon looks very hungry :D
the freehand on the crimson fists looks prety good , i wish i could do a freehand like that
DanLee - January 21, 2008 03:46 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys i wasn't sure about the freehand at first but i prefer it over the transfers cuz the transfers gleam a little when they're put on not to mention a pain to even get flat on the pads in the first place .Looks really odd which is why i stuck with the freehand and in time i'm hoping to get it neater as i will be doing this for my tau when i eventually start them up again.Plus i will continue to do the same throughout my fist army .
Do any of you guys think i should do that ravener thing with my trygon base ? Or do you suggest anything else?
Also I'm not sure how i will base my Fists yet so ideas are always welcome ?
mattrs - January 23, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
The tau guy looks great to me, i love the pose more than anything.
Its crisp and clean the only thing is i would add a lighter blue on the edges of the armour plates to make a contrast and blend it back to the darker blue. I would use the same meathod as i mentioned in my thread on doing the purple.
but hey thats just me its looks ace as is
Keep at it
DanLee - January 23, 2008 04:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Mattrs i will definately highlight my future tau stuff as you mentioned and hopefully try my hand at that layering your so good at too.
Thanks for the comments mate :)
titan136 - January 23, 2008 05:24 PM (GMT)
The trigon looks ace! very cool scheme and I like the tau commander in Ultramarines colors :P How are you planning to base your crimson fists?
hiveminion - January 23, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
The Ravener idea sounds pretty cool but I'd see if you can pull it off with spare plastic parts, because Raveners aren't cheap and are cool to use in games, so I'd personally rather keep them on their own base. Besides most of the stuff that's left from Warrior boxes can make some good Raveners (albeit incomplete ones). If you're not too bothered about price tags and prefer diorame-like centrepiece models over gameplay, then of course, go for it. :)
DanLee - January 24, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys for the comments :)
@Titan Does look a bit like smurf marines doesn't he :P
The colours i used were shadow gray as the main colour highlighted with azure blue ( i believe that was a vallejo colour ).The light colour is a vallejo colour similar to space wolves gray but is slightly lighter and that is highlighted with skull white .the crest was graveyard earth then kommando khaki then highlighted with bleached bone. I'm thinking of getting rid of the metal on the tau models in future as i heard they don't use metal for their armour or weapons . Not sure though so if anyone could clarify this i'd be grateful.
As for my fists i am really not sure maybe rock and ash?Thinking of getting some base scenery at some point i know you can get small tubs from GW i think so thats a possibility. You have any ideas mate?
@ Hiveminion The warrior idea is very good thanks, ( why didn't i think of that!? ), that is possibly the best way to go as they are effectively the same model albeit an extra pair of arms.
Should have a pic of my assualt marine this weekend as it's nearly done :D
DaCone2 - January 24, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
You said that last week :P
DanLee - January 25, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
At least i'm painting :P
Come on now Cone get that trukk finished !
DanLee - January 27, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
Right , well i tried to get that marine done but 'Cone was insistent on playing burnout paradise plus the light was awful, and he didn't really do much painting ... damn you martin (Dacone)!!! :P
Still the assualt sargeant is almost done and i've also started on another 2 marines for my other 6 man squad. One has a power fist and bolt pistol and the other has a meltagun?I think thats what i've given him .I get confused alot comes from 'Cone, it's contagious .
After those i'm thinking of making a start on another assualt marine or a scout or maybe even start the razorback , although i can't finish the RB until i get the forge world turret as i think it's so much better B)
Soon i'll be posting an ambitous army list of 2000pts to try and paint and play with.
Any suggestions on what you guys would like to see me paint next ?Or what do you think is a good marine list for begginers that's fun and flexible?
Sorry about the pics i will hopefully have some on thursday ,probably won't see them til friday, damn you 'Cone :P you win this time :ph43r:
Until then i'll be watching the start of the third series of supernatural ,it's on tonight yay :D , and playing on Advance Wars :Dark Conflict :D .
DaCone2 - January 27, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
Oi! You can damn well take your own then! :P
If you need any help with the poses i can give you a hand if you want.
DanLee - January 28, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
@Dacone2 That'd be great mate any help is welcome as i don't want my marines all looking the same , i appreciate you taking pics aswell mate :)
I would like to see your trukk painted tho  :P
DanLee - February 1, 2008 03:16 PM (GMT)
Right i know it's been a while but i think it's been worth the wait because i've done my assault marine sargeant ,( i'll do the freehand on him when the rest of the squad is done), about 1/3 of my other tactical marine sargeant for my other 6 man squad and the legs of the heavy weapons dude , not highlighted yet tho. C&C welcome :

This is my tactical marine sargeant that Dacone helped pose for me , as i wasn't quite sure on the original at that time and i now think this is so much better , cheers Cone . :)

Comments welcome guys . I've decided on a mountain theme for my bases using slate and gravel from the scenery basing kit i got from GW , do you guys think it will suit ?
Angel Robertson - February 1, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
Yeah that should look cool! Use a few of the resin bits here and there to give it a flash of colour every now and then!
Ar
DanLee - February 2, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
Cheers AR what resin bits did you have in mind ?
I was also going to get some of that autumn grass , it's brown rather than green i thought it'd be a nice touch .
hiveminion - February 2, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
Just loving that Assault Marine sergeant. He looks kick-[arse] with the axe and shield. Nice work!
