Title: BoB The Cadian 69th!
Description: And yes they have purple helmets . . .

Angel Robertson - January 13, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
Okalie doakalie then modellerinoes!

This is my Band of Brothers log and its going to be all about my cadian 69th! An army that has very recently been started and those of you who have caught my other log will know where this is going!

So first of all i have a 1k army list but im going to re-write it as im not sure where to head with it but i will definitely have a command squad and 1 platoon in lol so i will start with them! PLus a LR.

So here is what i have painted so far!

user posted image

8 cadian footsloggers for the first squad of my first platoon! So i guess by the end of the month i need to get this squad finished along with the command of the platoon and another 10 grunts, this may be tight!

Luckily, or sneakily as some may say i have entered the AB cadian painting contest and will be inverting the colours of my army for them, so i can write some fluff and include them in my army as command members, hence the inverted colour. So here they are in all there WIP glory!

So then that kicks off my BoB log! I hope to have all my first squad done by friday and the comp entry at least 50% there! So that will mean i am about 50% of the way to my months target!

Cheers,

AR

i really like the purple armour on your guardsmen :)
any chance of a close up of the painted sqd ?

DaCone2 - January 14, 2008 08:14 AM (GMT)
They would look brilliant as genestealer cultists! :)

Angel Robertson - January 14, 2008 08:36 AM (GMT)
Never thought of that, interesting thought though!

Nothing like being assaulted by a group of purple helmeted warriors... kinda makes ya feel like the victim in a hentai flick.

The purple looks nice and smooth, clean. Looks great.

Yeah im starting to the purple headed warriors being the brunt of a few jokes in my local GW as well!!

Now debating wether to do a few silly squads.. . . .

AR

Easy E - January 14, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
No silly squads. Play it straight it adds tot eh humor.

When someone makes a purple headed warriors joke, just look at them like you don't understand.

Angel Robertson - January 14, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
It depends who im playing! If its my mates orks its quite fun!

Best comment so far is "dam your purple headed warrior just b***h slapped my nob!"

Hehe, purple helmets...

Nice looking models man, how did you do the white/bone bits, they look very spiffy :).

Marcus ! - January 14, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
they r teh nicezor !1!

(cants think of anything more intellegent to say ) . . . hmm, make some rough riders :P

Angel Robertson - January 14, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
Ok final update for this evening! MAnaged to block in the purple fatigues on the three members of the 5-man squad and also get the mettalics and skin blocked in on the HW team for my first squad!

user posted image

user posted image

The purple and skin on everything has also been washed as well so next step will be to begin highlighting the skin and fatigues!

I also finished the construction of my Leman Russ!

user posted image

All i need to do is sand it all down so there are no rough patches and xcess glue and its off to be primed!

As for the bone, it has been done differently on different people! The first batch of troops was done with

-Graveyard earth, 3 thin coats

-Progressively add bleached bone till i was at pure bleached bone

-Graveyard earth glaze

Then the next batch was done

-Calthan brown

-Kommando Kaki

-Then add bleached bone till pure

-GE Glaze

And the 5-man squad in progress was done when a little light bulb went on

-Calthan Brown

-Kommando Kaki

-Denheb stone

Now on this way you could prob miss out the kaki stage so i will be trying that on the fatigues of the HW platoon!!

Well thats me for the night!

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

AR

Cheers,

AR

schoolcormorant - January 16, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
Sweet stuff... I'm fairly sure the only sensible way to fill 500 pts is with a baneblade or russes....

SC

Marcus ! - January 16, 2008 07:31 AM (GMT)
i'd say a 'rus with 3 heavy bolters, a 10man roughrider squad with hunting lances and honorifica sarge. (all with carapace ) and a 3 lascanon spport squad + making the juniour in comand squad a heroic.

with extra few points, get camo netting on tanks. that is, if i am capable of maths, bang on. :)

PS - gd work

Angel Robertson - January 16, 2008 08:53 AM (GMT)
I think i would like to hit 2k then add a baneblade squadron!

I like the russ, HW squad and rough riders though! Just gotta work out how i would do the rough riders!!

AR

biscuit - January 16, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
i'd say stormies in a chimera or deep striking is a good bet! or ogryns, they'd look cool in your colours!

Angel Robertson - January 16, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
I have been contemplating both those options as a matter of fact!

Stormies as i really like the models and ogryns casue i think 5 plus a commissar and priest in a chimera would be a pretty cool counter assault unit!?

AR

Captain Wolverine - January 16, 2008 01:38 PM (GMT)
a bassie or 2

Brush Your Teeth - January 16, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
These guys look really cool, as a fellow (ex) purple headed warrior player (my old eldar army had purple helmets..) i have to compliment the colour scheme :P

As for additions to the list, rough riders FTW, they've got to be one of the best value units in the guard army IMO.

Keravin - January 16, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
I'd honestly get more Guard as it just feels light on them with the second troops option being the Armoured fist.

i used empire pistoliers/outriders + cadian stuff, i will get a pic and post it in my log, incase it is of any help

Angel Robertson - January 16, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
Thats what i was thinking, or i was thinking of going the bik way?

Ok i went into GW to get some spray and stuff and came out with an ogryn, just out of curiosity . . .

More painitng updates later tonight and alot tomorrow hopefully!

AR

Angel Robertson - January 16, 2008 11:10 PM (GMT)
Ok then here is the update for tonight! Not had much time but i have managed to get a fair bit done, although it may not show in the pics!

Ok then, HB team now has the armour done except highlights, metal done and washed except highlights and im trying another way of painting the bone. This time i am painting them calthan brown then brown inking them and im going to try just one highlight of denheb stone leaving the ink in the recess and the calthan brown to shade? It mya work it may not!

As for the comman platoon/comp entry. They now just need a highlight on their fatigues for them to be done and same for the metal. Will be hoping to finish both the above tomorrow then take a break to do a bit of marine stuff!

Let me know what you guys think!

Oh and my missus savaged two of my brushes last night when she was painting by not cleaning them so i will be holding her to ransom! haha!

Finished heavy bolter team obviously minus basing! Going to work on the command now!

Still need to decide on basing, im think of grey cityfight style with possibly burnt out beigey grass? If you can even get that?! Any ideas?

I promise to get good pics when they are based and dullcoated as well!

Cheers,

AR

hiveminion - January 17, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
Looking good, the heavy bolter looks really cool. The scheme is nice and I like the purple. I think your idea for the bases sounds good, especially the beige-like grass, I think it ties in with the clothes very well.

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Thats what i wanted, to tie them in a bit more! I will keep the rims black.

Any ideas where i could get some of that coloured static grass??

AR

schoolcormorant - January 17, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
The painting on the khaki clothing is flawless.

www.ecscenics.co.uk for static grass. don't get any thats overly bright cos it looks crap :)

SC

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 05:01 PM (GMT)
Cheers for the linky!

Do you think it looks alright on the team then as that was done in record time and will speed everything up so much!!

AR

schoolcormorant - January 17, 2008 05:07 PM (GMT)
i think it looks great!

Hi AR
Those gaurdsmen look amazing ! That colour scheme is very renegade syle i think . Some sentinals would be quite useful would be intrsting to see how you'd paint them ?

DanLee

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Cheers for the kind words guys!

I had planned on adding sentinels in a larger army, 3cadian patter ones. Not to sure how i would paint them, possibly camo?

AR

schoolcormorant - January 17, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)

Angel Robertson - January 17, 2008 06:42 PM (GMT)

AR

MutantMaggot - January 17, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
Always ready to hijack a log, SC? :P (just kidding, that's an awesome sentinel. :) )

schoolcormorant - January 17, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Thats why i posted the pics as links, i mean the phrase
"Camouflage cadian sentinel" came up, and i had an example.
