Title: Came into some Kasrkin, now what?
Description: Turning my brush to IG

Severian - January 13, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
So I got 2 free boxes of Kasrkin (Thanks Digits) courtesy of Ammo Bunker and he, Digits, actually mailed it to South Africa for me (Postage is a bitch :( ). Digits even included an extra special weapons trooper or two (thank you Santa, put a smile on my face :D )

I am actually quite keen to put a brush to something other than a space marine and so I have made an uncertain start. The pick is crap, that would be because the camera is crap, no really :P .

The highlights are brighter than it seems on the pic and the models are not shiny but mat however it might appear from the photo. I would like some comments on the color scheme however.

I'll get some decent photos when I see my brother again - professional photographer.

I like the colours you chose, but I feel the carapace armour and helmets might be better off with a different colour than the boots and gloves. It seems the brown is a bit too prevalent to me. Very nice painting though!

I agree with Hive tho easy remedy is to add camo to the shoulder pads and helmet. Stormies are my favourite to paint, so easy to get into!

Thanks fellas, I'll take it under consideration. Any specific ideas as to the cammo scheme?

I've decided to stay with the armor as is but put an extra bit of cammo on. You thoughts? Oh as you probably discovered - don't expect regular updates, not much time for painting right now :)

Nice mate :) Certainly break the colourscheme up a bit, I like!

great contrasting on the camo scheme, best way to paint kasrkins! well done alround

Digits - February 3, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
Looking great mate! Glad to see they didn'y make that jorney for nothing! lol

What do you have in mind for the bases?

Novogord - February 3, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
They look good, but if I was you, I should paint those wires from their backpack to their gun in a brighter color  and like digits said, the bases? Nothing more that I can say.

Severian - February 4, 2008 05:10 AM (GMT)
Digits : Thanks mate, I am thinking of going with some type of city fight base, maybe tiles with a bit of rubble?

Novogord : I was eying those wires myself and I'm thinking maybe a spot of color would not go amiss.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions fellas ;)

Nice kasrkin scheme!

I would just be careful when painting the wires brighter that you don't have to many bright colours on the model as it would dtract from their subtle camo tones.

So after quite a long pause I decided I needed to do another post if for no other reason than to convince Digits that the postage was not a complete waste. I unfortunately do not have a decent camera (phone only) so I will post better pictures in due course. I'm about halfway there with models ranging from finished and based to missing backpacks or still needing to be based right up to basecoat. All models have however been cleaned and mold lines removed (I hope, take a photo and all of a sudden a line you missed pops out of hiding!)

Ok so here are some preliminary shots.

Ok any C&C will be welcomed, if however you find it hard to form any kind of coherent opinion based on the wacked out color and quality of the photos I understand, I really do!

I think their bases are excellent, and I'm glad you picked bases that would match the camouflage, very cool.

Have you given the metals and black wash to dull them down? They look a bit bright in the photos.

They're looking fine mate. I'd be te,pted to try a little thinned brown ink into creases just to give it a little definition on some of the tan areas.
