Title: Re-potted paints
Description: and other stuff...

Merceus - January 12, 2008 11:45 AM (GMT)
Most of this is nicked from the other site, but oh well...

The inks and (most) of the paints are staying, but they are being put into the China made foundation pots which hold the same volume though look smaller. Inks will be having black lids and will dry with less of a glossy sheen.

Rumours say that GW will also be making pre-thinned paints for their rumoured airbrush.

There are also rumours of a range of dips.

Salsa, garlic mayo, or bbq?

Merceus - January 12, 2008 01:34 PM (GMT)
pfft, garlic mayo wouldn't sell well enough! Think Sour Cream and Guacamole

Traitor King - January 12, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
GW dips?

So what, they now encorage people taking shortcuts in painting their models? Awesome!

Less glossy inks would be good.

Merceus - January 12, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
Just to note, the Dips are rumoured to be the least likely rumour of the lot (wow, a rumour about a rumour :P)

Traitor King - January 12, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Dip isnt all that important, you can get all sorts of things.
Some cheap woodstain from B&Q would probably be just as good if they did...

schoolcormorant - January 12, 2008 02:33 PM (GMT)
Pre thinned paints?

Jesus christ, isn't that like watered down whiskey?

SC

Merceus - January 12, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
You can get watered down whiskey  weeeird... why are you putting whiskey in an airbrush anyway?

but yeah, if GW did do the dips, they would be other colours... not just brown or black :P

MutantMaggot - January 12, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
[rant] Less glossy inks. And just after I painted my Empire using a lot of inks ... I spent age on them, and was dissapointed with the glossy ... but no, GW goes and ruins it by bringing out less glossy inks ... if only they'd done that a few years ago ... [/rant]

Seriously, sounds great! I may even get WD again to hear about them!

Merceus - January 12, 2008 09:22 PM (GMT)
well not much has been said about it in WD, except a preview pic of one of the inks with a '?' instead of a label...

schoolcormorant - January 12, 2008 09:26 PM (GMT)
Inks aren't much use to me anyway, i only use them when i want the effect of the glossy or the way the stuff applies, not the finish necessarily.

Glaze medium de-glosses everything anyway

SC

Merceus - January 12, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
but wouldn't it be nice to not have to buy glaze medium as well as ink? ;) I don't use ink much either, just on bases and sometimes on metallic areas...

schoolcormorant - January 12, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Well as i said, sometimes you want the effect an ink gives, a glaze on a lense or something...

SC

bringerofdecay - January 12, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
i have heard they are getting rid of blazing orange and tentacle pink (among others), both of which i'll be stocking up on next month as my slaanesh use tentacle pink...a whole bloody lot! and blazing orange i find to be such a bloody useful colour(mixing rust/highlights for my blood angels).

why can't those bastards at GW give us a proper list of stuff they're discontinuing so we, their customer can have enough breathing space to ensure we get the colours we use :(

Merceus - January 12, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
If I want something to shine I usually use varnish as it works a lot better then relying on the ink to do it...

and yes, Tentacke Pink and Blazing Orange are going... as are Bad Moon Yellow, Midnight Blue and Brazen Brass... grr!!

is there a list up anywhere? i've only got what little i got from chatting to jim/cieran and some of the regulars down our local

Merceus - January 12, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
no... its just random news I got off of Warseer a month or so back...

Dominus Ex Machina - January 12, 2008 11:28 PM (GMT)
WHAT, removing brazen brass! I use that colour all the time...

And what is this you say about a citadel airbrush? Sounds interresting to me as I've been planning to get one for ages (literaly)!

Also, I prefer the 'regular' paint pots to the foundation ones (and the foundation ones ARE smaller and do hold less paint, it says on the bottle. 14 ml of paint in the 'regular' bottles and 12 ml in the foundation ones). And if they will use this "re-potting" of the paints as an other reason to make them more expensive someone is going to get a whopping!

And don't complain on the inks glossyness, there's matte medium and varnish out there for a reason people

Marcus ! - January 13, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
heh, imagine how expensive a GW airbrush would be.

Also, the foundation pots always seen too get paint running down into the hinge(sp?) Altho foundation paints are good, i would prefer them in current pots, not the otherway round.

Merceus - January 13, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
I agree! If only I weren't too lazy to start a petition :P

Rumours say that the Airbrush is modelled to look like a Hand Flamer and fits the current Paint Pots (though that may be the foundation ones in light of this newer news)...

It is also rumoured that they will be sold in a pack of two for between 30 and 50 pounds...

Dominus Ex Machina - January 13, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
Are there any rumored release dates for all of this?

Merceus - January 13, 2008 01:03 AM (GMT)
Re-potting and paint removal should be early to mid summer, airbrushes are supposedly between autumn and spring...

Tony88 - January 13, 2008 03:06 AM (GMT)
Why can't they just leave stuff alone?. I sure hope they don't make "dips", because you never learn anything if you just dip the models.

Also, why cancel colours people use a lot? That annoys me.

Anyway, the Airbrush would be good for people like me who live in rural areas without much of an access to cool hobby stuff, since GW is easier to order through. Hopefully they make it good, instead of purely worrying if it looks like a hand flamer (hand flamers look stupid if you ask me).

Anyway if they made less shiny inks that'd be cool. Maybe even make some more Foundation paints, or bring back coloured sprays! I wish i had the Boltgun Metal spray to do my necrons.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the issue.

Oh and i rock.

That is all.

(Post edited by SC regarding offensive language - You don't rock Tony) :P

No more Tentacle Pink :( i use that colour alot.
The air brush sounds like it could be interesting. There was a preview of the new pots in the latest white dwarf over here.

Glaze medium? Please may you tell me what this is, and where I can find it? ;)

Thanks,
MM :)

Merceus - January 13, 2008 11:07 AM (GMT)
Its a thing that by the sounds of it you wont be needing very soon :P just some good ol' varnish to get the shine back ;)

Bluesabre - January 13, 2008 11:12 AM (GMT)
Well, if your worried about losing certain colours, just turn to Vallejo Game Colour and pick up the appropriate match, also I believ Coat'De Arms are basicly the same colours as GW.

Can get Glaze medium from Vallego, as well as probly a good few others that I cant name. It is useful in making washes and adding to paints to help with flow and extends drying time a little, it also gives a flat result. Someone more knowledgeable can probly explainit better than me tho.

And why release Airbrushes in a pack of two? are they going to be that flimsy that you need a spare?

Merceus - January 13, 2008 11:23 AM (GMT)
meh, its GW... it probably gets paint suck in the nozzle and gets clogged up all the time... so yeah, probably :P

MutantMaggot - January 13, 2008 01:33 PM (GMT)
Merceus: I gathered that much, but I wanted to know a bit more about it to see if it would be good on m,y Empire ...

Does it dull metallics? *hopes not*

Merceus - January 13, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
Its probably similar to varnish, though instead of making things shiny, it takes any shine away (probably not metallics though)...

I asked the same question, and after deliberating all night i've come to only one conclusion, and it's crap...

perhaps one for normal paints and the other for metallics?!

Altho i see no cause to airbrush metallics, except on necrons mebbe...

regarding you're other point, its basically because the longer paint takes to dry the more settled and even the particles become on the surface, so they are smoother. If paint dries too fast the paint can't 'run out' and cover evenly

TBH, i think twin hand flamer airbrushes is proberly false, i'm sure someone thought i wwas funy lol
